Hampton reminds McDaniel of Terrell Davis
Mike McDaniel shares some insight on Omarion Hampton, explaining why the second-year running back reminds him of Hall of Famer Terrell Davis and is set for an "exciting year."

We both are interested, we- you're, you're the run game master.
You're the reason Davon you know, his talents and your scheme are why he got paid.
You got a little different of a guy here with Omarion Hampton.
He's not necessarily exactly like Davon but what's been your impression so far of him, early on here in training camp?
Well, first of all, on the, on the opposite side of the country, one of the th- on, on top of Justin Herbert, you know, one thing that really attracted me to the Chargers was the, their last two years, the way, Joe and his department and, and Jim have drafted, they were, they were drafting all, all players that were targets of mine.
Yeah.
You know, in a s- a small, there's, there's like, you know, however many backs that come out each draft class, but, you know, there's only, four or five that I'm targeting.
And, O was a target of mine.
I loved his play speed.
You know, and, and there's a l- a lot of different ways to skin a cat.
I actually see some similarities between Davon and O in that if you can picture like a, a, a compression tackle or a vice tackle, there's two defenders sitting there trying to tackle the ball carrier.
There's certain guys that can speed up and hit the top shoulder of that vice and beat the compression that fall forward for yards.
Right.
Those are the high yards per carry players, guys that in space don't hesitate and hit it.
And, you know, as I, as I'll describe it, beat the compression or beat the vice.
And that's something O does, with power and speed and pad level.
S- same thing that Davon would do, just utilizing his quickness and, and, and vision.
So, I, to me, O reminds me, the way when he, the way he ha- he plays with the ball in his hands in space, the way he sets up his blockers by pressing and bringing the ball all the way to the heels of the blockers, reminds me of somebody that is close to my heart and core.
That's Terrell Davis.
That's who I grew up watching.
Yep.
And, and so there's similarities that have really struck with me.
If you're a talented ball carrier, the cool thing about the run game is all you're trying to do is create You're trying to maxim- maximize the amount of space that a ball carrier can have, to utilize his skill set.
So, it's very easy in the run game to, adjust for, for a, a high, high producing, high yards per carry players.
I'm really excited about O 'cause I, I think, he's a extremely hard guy to tackle that's just starting to find his true NFL confidence.
And, guys with confidence with that amount of skill set, watch out.
So it'll be exciting year for him.
