If they were as good as they were with the vanilla defense and now DeMeco starts mixing things up, 'cause he's shown some game plans over the years in my opinion where he, if he wants to get real creative and, and shut somebody down, like he's also a mastermind.
I mean, do you think that something like that could happen this year?
Yeah, man.
So none of that's gonna happen w- if, if the offense don't step up.
Yeah.
Right?
DeMeco I hold in a high regard for a lot of different reasons.
Number one, being a former player, also being, an African American head coach and for this franchise.
We know they went through David Culley a- and Lovie Smith.
But I, I, I always think the, the, the goal there was to land on DeMeco.
Mm-hmm.
But when he stepped in, the immediate energy shift and change was remarkable.
You know, and then, you know, the first year they made it to the playoffs.
But he's also a, a head coach that I think does a great job of mixing young and old style of coaching.
That said, I, I, I 100% hold DeMeco Ryans in a high regard because I think as a coach, Cody and I, my former co-host, we used to call him the ultimate DC, and that's developer coach.
Mm-hmm.
So, so now I'm looking at the possibility of year four, you got a offensive coordinator that kind of matches your style and swag a little bit, kind of matches your mindset.
You, you hope that how DeMeco's defense was good in his first year, wasn't top 10, but they were pretty good- especially the back half of that year.
You hope that Nick Caley replicates that.
Where that second year for DeMeco, that defense started to churn a little bit.
The second year for the offense, you hope that under Nick Caley they get a l- little bit better, a lot better actually.
But for DeMeco, I look at him and I say to myself, "You know, have we seen the best of him yet?"
As a- I- as a defensive-minded coach, and Matt Burke who's done an amazing job of taking his philosophy and, and as a defensive coordinator and breathing through that defense so everybody can breathe the same life.
But until this offense does what they need to do consistently, I think we're gonna get a defense that's just kind of vanilla.
Once we get that offense that's able to score 25, 26, 27 points per game, and they may have a 10-point lead, which they don't get often, then I think we'll see the fullness of DeMeco as a defensive play caller, along with Matt Burke, 'cause th- those two work extremely well and-
