Will Injunction Ruling Affect Cal Football or Basketball?

-

Video Transcript

The temporary injunction ruling of Friday suggests that some players who thought their eligibility was over this past spring may be eligible to play again for another season.

It has to do with the 5 years to play 5 college seasons rule which is going into effect this season.

And whether the people that have played 4 college seasons would be eligible to play in another season could be applied to them.

The rules initially said they could not, that they were sort of caught in the transition, that they would not be eligible to play a 5th season because they thought their eligibility was out.

With this injunction suggests they will.

So the most prominent players that seem to fit into this category are uh cornerback for, for Cal, are Paco Austin uh in football, and Chris Bell in basketball.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the logistics would even allow Austin or Bell to come back to Cal for another season based on uh roster limits and how adding players is, uh, the logistics of doing that, whether that could even be accomplished, but it opens up a, a can of worms of what seems to be possible.
