And we will start out with, yes, Miles Garrett arriving in LA.
That is where we begin.
Superman is on the scene after Monday's bombshell, a trade sending the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year to the Rams in exchange for Pro Bowl linebacker Jared Burse, plus 3 draft picks, including next year's first-rounder.
Coach Sean McVeigh and GM Les Snead introduced their big addition who spoke on his mindset after the trade that shook the league.
Since the very beginning it's always been about winning and it just breaks down to the timing of everything.
What does it realistically look like to be a winner now and to have an opportunity to do that immediately.
That was an opportunity that was just too difficult to pass up, and I always have love in my heart for Cleveland City, the community, and all its players.
everything else, but, um, the, the opportunity to come here and have a a immediate and uh, you know, profound impact on on this team, you know, it was, uh, you know, something I just, you know, had to move forward with.
Let's bring in our Steve Weitz, who has been staking out the parking lot the entire day.
Steve, you just saw Miles Garrett pull up a big SUV for a big man, a big addition for the Rams.
Take me through the first day with, yes, Miles Garrett as a Ram.
Well, Tom, Miles Garrett said he found out Sunday that he'd been traded to the Rams.
So he lands in LA this morning, took his physical for most of the morning, and arrived at the team facility shortly after his new teammates walked off the field from an OTA workout.
It was there they held a news conference, and general manager Les Snead walked us through the timeline of the deal.
Now, he said several months ago, he reached out to the Browns.
About Garrett, to which they said Miles is on the Mount Rushmore for the Browns.
Hard no.
But several weeks later, Snead said the Browns warmed up to things, and when they asked for Jarrett Burse in return, Snead said hard no.
But then Snead said as the June 1st date approached, they came to terms on a deal, and the only obstacle is Miles Garrett's no trade clause, to which Garrett, when found out getting.
to the Rams said hard, yes.
Now, as you heard right there, Garrett said part of the appeal playing for the Rams is because they are a winning team, but also playing for quarterback Matthew Stafford and this offense that can get him leads will allow him to pin his ears back.
But Garrett's first order of business was procuring jersey number 99 off defensive tackle Puna Ford, to which Garrett said cost him, uh, a little bit more than a few bucks.
Well, I, I, I think, I think Miles Garrett can certainly afford that.
Steve still playing on that huge extension he signed $20 million per year.
No worries there for Miles Garrett, and, you know, really, you mentioned it, the no trade clauses were the only thing standing in the way once it became clear that the Cleveland Browns were willing to trade Miles Garrett for a deal they simply could not refuse.
Didn't sound like they wanted to.
Sounded like it had to be right.
It had to be overwhelming for them, not just giving them a good young player, but putting them in a position.
To get a great quarterback moving forward potentially with that extra 1st round pick.
And if you're Miles Garrett and you've been so loyal to Cleveland, remember, asked for a trade, still ended up signing last offseason.
Got to imagine one of the only teams that he would want to be traded to would be.
A Super Bowl contender in LA with Matthew Stafford in an already great defense that you mentioned, Steve, how many times Miles Garrett was able to rush the passer for Cleveland.
Not enough.
I think it's safe to say he's going to be doing it a lot more in LA this season.
