Rapoport: Rams finalizing trade with Browns to acquire DE Myles Garrett 'Up To The Minute'

One of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history is on the move.
I am joined now by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, who just broke the news that the Browns and Rams have agreed to a blockbuster trade for Miles Garrett and Jared Burse.
Uh, Ian, how did this all come together ?
There's been rumors and rumblings that Garrett would be traded for a while now.
Why did the Browns finally do it?
One of the biggest trades of the offseason, one of the biggest trades in NFL history, likely the biggest trade involving a defensive player ever.
According to sources, as I can report from me, Adam Schefter, and Tom Pellisaro, Miles Garrett is gonna be traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
The two teams are finalizing a deal that will include Miles Garrett, the 2-time Defensive Player of the Year, one of the best.
Defensive players ever.
Certainly the best defensive player in football, the NFL sack leader from last year.
He goes from the Browns to the Los Angeles Rams for superstar young edge, Jarrod Burst, a first-round pick, and more.
This is expected to be finalized over the next several hours likely after 4 p.m. today.
Miles Garrett though is expected to be a member of the Rams as Les Snead, the Rams GM, very famous.
said, F them picks.
They now get a superstar, a big-time player to add to their team as they try to make a Super Bowl run.
Matthew Stafford is locked in.
A team full of superstars is locked in, and now they get Miles Garrett in his prime.
As far as the Cleveland Browns go, they now have two first-round picks in the 2027 season, likely more coming.
Plus, along with the long-term pick.
Compensation, they get something that they will use to help build their franchise for years to come.
They also get Jarred Vurse, one of the best young edges in the NFL and more.
Certainly, this makes sense from a Cleveland Browns standpoint.
I also should mention, they'll probably save end up about $30 million or so in cash to use on the rest of their team, an absolute blockbuster today, the Rams are trading for Miles Garrett.
What a crazy trade.
Ian, I've got to know though, were there other teams involved in potentially acquiring Miles Garrett?
I know he's got a no trade clause in there, so that probably limited how many other teams they were able to talk to and potentially negotiate with.
Yeah, our understanding, and, and this is something I'm reporting with Adam Schefter and Tom Pellisaro, is that the Los Angeles Rams were the team.
They were the team.
They were persistent.
They reached out to the Cleveland Browns wanting to trade for Miles Garrett.
Around the time when the Browns adjusted Miles Garrett's contract to move some bonuses up a little bit.
The Browns said no, he is not available.
The Rams tried again after the Draft and said, we want him.
Here's more, here's more.
They said, no, he is not available.
OK, well, then they said, what if we included Jared Burse?
Well, that was someone the Cleveland Browns have had eyes on for a long time.
When Jared Burse was suddenly in the deal, the picks got moved around a little bit.
It got to a point where the two teams said, you know what, this could actually happen.
They're expected to agree in totality later today.
Right now they are finalizing this deal, this absolute stunner.
Miles Garrett expected to be a member of the Los Angeles Rams, the one and only team to pursue him.
Persistence pays off for less need for Sean McVeigh and company.
Just an unbelievable day.

Ian, how much do you think this has to do with Jim Schwartz's departure?
Yeah, I don't really see the two things being related.
Jim Schwartz, great defensive coordinator, no doubt about that.
This is really about the long-term and short team needs of the Cleveland Browns.
Miles Garrett is an incredible asset, right?
And if you have an incredible asset, there are two ways you can use him.
On your defense, which they've done for the last several years, and, you know, Miles Garrett's gonna be a member of the Ring of Honor, Ring of Honor for the Cleveland Browns.
He's one of the best players in franchise history.
But if it's not going to be on the field, you can use him in other ways.
They used him to recoup incredible draft pick compensation and a great young player.
This really is about this team right now and the entire organization.
Uh, Miles Garrett expected to be a member of the Rams.
They got their own great defensive staff.
They got their own great defense.
Top defense in the NFL last year, and oh man, they just got a lot, lot better.
