Can Jaydon Blue Win Cowboys RB Battle vs. Saints?

Blue has had a good offseason, but can he win the backup running back job with a strong showing against the Saints?

Video Transcript

Okay.

Okay with maybe the fastest guy in this training camp, and then, you put on display a couple times you might be one of the fastest running backs in football.

You did a 45 yarder- For sure on day one, and you did it again today.

When you get in the open- Mm-hmm what's that feel like?

For me, man, you know, my mindset is anytime I get in the open field or, you know, one-on-one with anybody, my, my mindset is to win.

And I think- Let's go you know, once I get in the open field, and I have to outrun somebody, I don't think there's, you know, anybody in this league that can keep up.

I had a couple people tell me a couple months ago that the vision here would be thunder and lightning, that Javonte is that guy, and that you would be his caddy, and then Phil Moffa, he's got a role, too.

Do you view yourself as being in competition, or are you just trying to do your thing?

Yeah, man, really just, just trying to do my own thing.

Like I said, man, we, we, me, Javonte, Phil, we all different backs, so you know, for me, like, like you said, you know, they, they do want us to be thunder and lightning.

They want me to, you know, be that back that comes with him.

So you know, it's, it's good when you have a running back like, like Javonte, you know, in front of you.

So like I said, man, my thing is just trying to be the best version of myself.

When, when you have the wheels that you have, can, can there be kind of a detriment to it sometimes?

Because you're thinking, "Well, I, when in doubt, I'm just gonna run as fast as I can to a spot."

I mean, not really, because, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm a smart football player, so I know when to, when to tempo it and when not to.

You know, a lot of runs, you know, you have to tempo, you know, to the hole and, you know, once you see it, that's when you hit it, or once you get it open field, that's when you hit it.

So- That's right you know, that's just, with, you know, with me, you know, being very hard, you know, it, that's just the person I am.

In fact, Schottenheimer said not too long ago that, that you have a high football IQ, FBIQ, which the Longhorns people are very proud of.

That must mean- Yeah, definitely you, you had a good football- Oh, yeah education otherwise in, in Austin.

Yeah.

I like, I give, you know, Coach Choice a lot of credit.

Like I said, man, he was, you know, probably one of my favorite coaches that I've ever had, you know, at Texas.

And you know, he, he was a football guru.

So you know, he taught me a lot of things.

You know, you know, it was some things that I already knew, you know, and, and he would say the same thing, man, I'm a very, you know, cerebral guy when it come to football, and you know, a- as you can see, you know, you know, Saidy and the coaches think the same way.

Well, you're off to a great start.

Cowboy fans are, and Longhorns fans are very proud of you.

Thank you.

Thanks, young man.
