Jets future moves before training camp with Connor Hughes and Zack Rosenblatt | Jets Final Drive

On Jets Final Drive, SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes and The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt discuss what moves the Jets could still make before training camp and who's stocks are up and down after the 2026 NFL Draft.

Video Transcript

It is the season finale of Jets Final Drive, and we have so much to get to.

Zach Rosenblatt joins me like he does every single week, where we are gonna break down whether or not Russell Wilson is a real option to be the backup to Geno Smith.

Also, if it's not Russell, is there any other veteran out there?

Brendan Shoresbe, that is a wild card that has been thrown into the quarterback mix here.

Could the Jets take him in a supplemental draft?

Will there even be a supplemental draft to take him in that?

We are addressing that, undrafted free agents, your fan questions and more on this episode of JFD, and it starts right now.

I don't have a son yet, so we are back with another edition- of Jets Final Drive, as baby watch continues.

Brie is actually at, she's a nurse at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

She's, she is currently working right now, because in, PA they make you go all the way up until that baby comes out.

So there is a chance here that at some point I get the text message that her water broke in Philly, in which case, you know, we'll have to, Zach will have to finish this one out for me.

But, in, in a perfect world, that doesn't happen, which means that Zach Rosenblatt, who is right there, and I am Connor Hughes, we are able to go through this entire episode seamlessly as the off-season rolls on for the New York Jets.

And like there always seems to be, there has been news here, Zach, which we are going to get to.

But before we get to anything, we do wanna thank you guys wherever you're watching us from, if that is smy.tv, if that is Facebook, if that is X or if that is YouTube.

If you're at any of those aforementioned places, why don't you go on your web browser or on your phone and scurry on over to YouTube, because you can interact with this show throughout our live comment section.

The thing about this being the off-season, and Zach feels this way, I feel this way, what's on your mind is more paramount than what's on our mind, because there's little things that might skirt through that we don't think are a big deal that you guys really wanna talk about.

So you can talk to us in that comment section, and then we will address your questions, comments and concerns throughout this episode.

Zach, before we get to the quarterbacks, my friend, how are you doing?

Good, man.

Yeah, it's, that stretch of the year where there's not really much going on in terms of work-wise that we have to physically be at.

we got rookie camp Friday and Saturday.

I, I imagine you probably won't be there.

Probably won't be, yeah.

But, you probably will not be there.

But yeah, you know, this is, this is the time where we get to relax a little bit while also looking ahead.

The Jets still have some moves to make, as we're gonna get into.

but yeah, I'm good.

I mean, I'm not waiting for a baby, so I'm not as stressed as you right now, so.

It is.

I, I will say that, like, this, so this is our second.

We have, my daughter Brooke, who's gonna be three next month.

And I, I think that, like, this baby process has been a little bit easier, just for the fact that we have a house.

So, like, last year we were, we were in the, like, knee-deep in, like, home searching when my wife was pregnant.

We actually closed on our house here three days after Brooke was born.

So, like, and then we had to, like, fix up the house, 'cause every wall needed to be painted and all the floors replaced.

So it was hell those first couple weeks.

This one was, like, aside from losing so much time to the draft and free agency and all, like, the, we actually got a nursery to set up and all that.

But I, I, I will say that, I've said this a lot now with this house, man, I never wanna paint another wall in my life.

Like- I'm done painting, I'm do- And you know, my, my wife, like, she thinks, she thinks this is, like, This Old House and I'm Norm, and I'm, like, fixing everything up and I'm, like, the most handy guy in the world with some of the things.

I, I was doing wainscoting today, cutting stuff.

Like, I'm, I'm all over the place with, like, what she, what she believes I can do.

But I, I gotta give Brie some credit, 'cause she's bringing more out of me than even what I, believed was inside of me in terms of home improvement.

Oh, well, yeah, well, that- that's why I'm happy to not own a house yet.

I'll say that, 'cause I- Yeah I am not looking forward to that part of it, so.

Well, d- dude, 'cause my friends, my friends bust my you-know-whats all the time, 'cause they're like, "Man, like, we grew up with you, dude.

Like, you wer- you were never this handy."

And I was like- Yeah.

"Yeah, like, dude, in a perfect wor- aside from the grass, like, I love taking care of the grass.

But, like, in a perfect world, I would love to pay somebody to come do all these things.

But the fun thing about buying a house is that the money that you would spend to go pay someone to do all these home improvement projects, you use to buy the actual house.

So you kinda gotta figure some stuff out.

So I'm doing electrical work.

Only been zapped- Oh a couple times, which hopefully gives me a little bit more energy here, for all that fun stuff.

But, s- s- like, like I said, the off-season's always fun with the Jets, 'cause there's always stuff going on with this team, and there's always things that we're gonna address and talk about.

And there's tons of stuff here on the rundown today.

We're gonna be talking about the quarterbacks, we're gonna be talking about Will McDonald's fifth year option, the undrafted free agent.

Gonna do a little stock up and down and, like I said, taking your questions.

But, the big piece of news, or one of the several big pieces of news that has come out since we last talked to you guys when the draft wrapped up, it is Russell Wilson.

And the old friend of Darren Moogey, the two worked together in- Denver for a little bit, not overly successful stint there for, Russell Wilson.

But, Russell Wilson took a visit to the New York Jets to have a workout.

Didn't have to go very far, he simply hopped in his car and drove to Florham Park to work out for the Jets' coaching staffs.

There's some interest there from the Jets.

Russell Wilson is obviously weighing his options between being a Jets backup quarterback or going into the broadcasting world.

it's, especially now with Tyrod Taylor headed to Green Bay, Zach, and, and that's something we're gonna get to as well.

Look, there's a lot that comes with bringing on Russell Wilson, but if you are simply looking for a quarterback, which is what the Jets are, to be a backup to Geno Smith, to fill in for a series or two if he goes down, hold the fort down for a couple of weeks if Geno has to miss some extended time, I don't know of the options that are available if there is a better option than Russell Wilson.

And that is coming from somebody that has been very critical of Russell throughout his career, and watched him all last year with the Giants.

He's not a starting quarterback, he's nothing like he was in Seattle, the athleticism has absolutely waned.

But if you need someone to come in, throw a couple moon balls, avoid the turnover, that's what Russell's gonna do for you right now.

Yeah.

S- so what I would say is, the read I get on the situation is, is, like, if he wants to keep playing, I would bet that he's probably gonna be the Jets' number two quarterback.

And if he does not, then he's gonna get paid pretty handsomely to be on the, I think it's, I think Andrew Marchand said the pregame show for CBS.

and he'll probably be pretty good at broadcasting, I would think.

I mean, he's a pretty good talker.

He knows football pretty well.

Like, say what you want about him, but, like, he had a Hall of Fame career.

Like, I know the end of his career has maybe clouded what-People, I think people have forgotten how good he was in his prime.

but what I would also say is like while I, I agree with everything you're saying, like out of all the options, he's clearly the best one.

Like, if you want a backup quarterback that can certainly do the job, he's the best option available.

but I also would not be dying to watch Russell Wilson running out the clock and throwing a ball away and getting sacked and, you know, making a weird decision and throwing a weird pick and then, you know, the interviews and all that stuff.

Like I, I, I would personally rather just roll with either what they have or add, I don't know, add like Cooper Rush or something, just in terms of not wanting to watch that style of football, 'cause it, it would just not be fun.

They would not Like, are they more likely to win games with him than like Bailey Zappe or Cooper Rush?

Like yeah, of course.

But I'm not also convinced they would win very many games with him either.

If they had to play him for an extended stretch, which they are the Jets, so the backup quarterback is going to start at some point because they are the Jets.

So you can assume whoever they go into the season with at number two, and probably number three, is gonna play at some point.

And that happened with Brady Cooke.

I, I think we jokingly said before the season like, "We're probably gonna see Brady Cooke play a game this year, I would think."

like when he was just on the practice squad, we were like, "It's probably gonna happen."

Now that's probably the Cade Clubnick if they sign somebody else.

But I don't know, I j- I just, I don't think fans would be very excited about They might like, like the idea.

I don't know what the f- it, I would say the reaction of fans was not very positive to that news, I would say.

But- No, a- I think, I think they would be even less positive if they had to watch him, I would say.

Well, this, this was my argument with it, because when the Giants signed Russell Wilson a year ago, and, and again, I, I cover that team as well, for me, I was like slamming my head against a wall being like, "What, what are you seeing?"

Like the, the Russell Wilson that was in Seattle for so many years, that was a, a dominant MVP candidate every single year, had the team in playoff contention every single year.

I, I know that he rubbed teammates the wrong way because he's a bit of a phony, absolutely, and, and all that kinds of stuff.

Like that's, that's real.

The stuff that, that, I saw it- firsthand with the Giants, but it's the, it's the stuff that everyone talks about with Russell Wilson.

It's all legitimate.

It is all accurate.

It's, it's, he's not the most authentic, genuine human being on, on the planet.

He's just not.

It's, I think he cares a lot about his celebrity, I think he cares a lot about how people care, think about him and view him, and some of that stuff absolutely will rub guys the wrong way.

But the Giants brought him in as their starter, like their no doubt, number one, he's our guy, Jameis Winston's our two, and then if we get a quarterback, Jameis and the quarterback will compete for number two.

And I thought that was wrong, because what we saw in Denver, what we saw in Pittsburgh, that's the Russell Wilson that is here now.

He is a player that can absolutely still air it out and throw a beautiful moon ball.

Go back and watch the tape that the Giants played in week two against the Dallas Cowboys when he went off for, actually set a career high in passing yards and then lost it in overtime because he threw a screen pass or something like that that lost five yards.

So he had his personal best and then lost his personal best.

But he can still air it out like nobody's business.

But there is something mentally in him right now that has made him terrified of turning the ball over, and it's just, you can see, if it's not the moon ball deep shot, it's a checkdown.

It's a checkdown.

It's a checkdown.

It's a checkdown.

And you mentioned the throwing it away late in the game.

I mean, the Giants had a fourth and goal in that third game when they gave- the start after the Cowboy game.

Yeah.

And he threw the ball away on fourth down.

Like, like didn't even give his guy a chance, just threw it out of the back of the end zone on fourth and goal or whatever it was near the goal line to throw it out of bounds.

So the mobility and the athleticism absolutely has gone down.

The, the gunslinger aggressiveness has absolutely taken probably five or six steps back from where it was, but that's why he's not a starter.

If the Giants had signed him and like, "Hey, we got Jameis, we got him, and we got Jackson, we're gonna let them all go compete and the best of the b- the best man's gonna win," I'm all in on that one.

The, the Steelers, if they had brought Russell back along with Justin Fields, like, "Hey, we're gonna let them compete, the best man wins," I get that.

This situation where you already have Geno Smith as your he's-our-starting-quarterback, and Geno has signed off on Russell Wilson being his backup, that's the situation I like, Zach.

Because again, when you have your backup quarterback come in, what are you looking for that guy to do?

You're looking for that quarterback to come in and not lose you the game.

Keep the boat steady, keep things even, dish it out to players when they're open, and just don't make the back-breaking mistake, and hope that everybody around you can elevate the situation, you can still find a way to win some games.

I ultimately don't think the Jets are gonna win any games next year.

But I think- Yeah of the backup quarterbacking landscape, Russ is the one that can do that the best, if that's what the Jets are willing to do.

But can, one, Russell's ego accept the job where he is the no doubt unquestioned backup?

Because that wasn't the case in Pittsburgh, wasn't the case with the Giants, wasn't the case in Denver, and wasn't the case in Seattle.

So can he, except for his first year obviously, can he- Yeah accept being a backup?

And also, can he accept a contract that is very clearly a backup quarterback contract?

I don't, I don't know the answer to those questions.

Yeah.

I mean, that's, ultimately the in- the most interesting part of all of it was the Geno Smith part where they consulted him on guys they were considering, and he chose out Russell Wilson.

Like I, I honestly didn't realize how close they became, or at least they enjoyed each other's company enough in Seattle to where Geno was like, "Yeah, I'd love to have Russell in the room."

'Cause, you know, what you've seen as he's, as Russell has left Seattle is a lot of his former teammates not having a lot of nice things to say about him, so that was interesting.

and yeah, to your point, like ultimately, you know, out of all the backup quarterbacks, he probably gives you the best chance to win games if that's like the goal that they would have for their backup quarterback this season.

Like I- Mm-hmm I did like the idea of, you know, doing a high-risk, high-reward type of guy like a Will Levis, which I don't, I don't know what's going on with him.

They do have two other quarterbacks ahead of him now, so I do wonder what the Titans ultimately do with Levis.

But he's, he's like a very volatile quarterback, and you're probably more likely to lose games with Will Levis than win them, but there's also a potential there.

So I don't know.

It's, they're in a weird spot 'cause they clearly did not like the options they had available to them at QB too.

Like they, as we talked about, they explored Carson Wentz, they looked into Andy Dalton, like and none of those options are They're kinda like, those guys are like kinda the same caliber as Russell Wilson at this point probably, so it's, it's more just like veterans in the room.

Like do you like how the guy's gonna do as like, you know, a mentor to Cade Clubnick?

Like do you like that?

Yeah.

Like that's, that's ultimately what, like those kinda options are.

And so at the end of the day, your backup quarterback's never gonna be that good.

Like I, I think itPeople, like, expect these guys to come in and, like, you know, lead you to the Promised Land.

Like, y- Tyrod Taylor's been a backup for a while, for Obviously there's the- Yeah durability stuff, but, like, Tyrod, if he plays for 17 games, you're not gonna win a lot of games ultimately.

Like, that's, that's why these guys are backups if they're not, like, rookies that are sitting behind, like, a Kirk Cousins like Mendoza's gonna do.

But, yeah, you know, the Russell thing, I, like, I did not see his name coming in.

Like, I, I, I did not expect that at any, in any way when I heard that.

and especially because of the part that you mentioned at the beginning, which is Muji was there in Denver when it was an absolute disaster.

Yeah.

and I just never anticipated him being in, considered a serious option.

But, you know, they do need another q- they need another quarterback in that room, whether it's one of these guys we're talking about, maybe there's somebody else out there, like, that gets traded that a team doesn't need anymore, like a s- I don't know, like a Spencer Rattler or, I don't know, somebody like that.

I don't know.

But, I- if I'm predicting right now, I'd guess he b- goes into broadcasting over coming to the Jets, but I, I don't think The fact that he hasn't made a decision yet means he's considering both options.

Well, he made, he did make it clear, Zach, that, that at the end of, of his tenure with the Giants, 'cause I, I was there on baggy day with New York and, and I remember talking to him, and he, he had a crowd of reporters around him for a while, and then when the cameras dissipated, he kept talking.

And he was not a player that was in any way, shape, or form at that moment reflecting on his career in a past sense.

And, and we've done that.

Like, w- we've covered players at the end of the road.

And even when the guy's like, "Yeah, I wanna keep playing," they kinda in their back of the head know they're probably done, like, it's gonna take a very special situation for them to keep going.

And then you have players that you figure they might, but they're kinda already thinking about retirement.

Aaron Rodgers was one of 'em.

You know, we were talking to Darrelle Revis for a while at the end.

Like, you can tell dudes who have been the stars and the star's fading, and it's just they're, they're trying to cling on a little bit.

Russell was not that on baggy day.

Ru- Russell was a player that was hell-bent in his conviction that, one, I can still play this game at a high level, and he kept pointing to that Dallas Cowboy game as a reason why, and then two, he wanted to keep playing.

Now, there's a lot of other factors in that world, like you need to have a team that wants to bring Russell Wi- Wilson into.

If he's gonna be the backup, you need to have a starter that's probably in place because you don't wanna create that weird dynamic of, okay, are you the backup or are you not the backup?

Like, Russell kinda has that big personality.

And also, he and Ciara live in New York, and in their perfect world they don't wanna leave New York.

I mean, it's been, they, they were trying to get to New York for a while, dude.

Like, those rumors back when he was in Seattle and there was like, "Oh, the Giants"- Yeah the Giants," like, those were real.

Like, Russell wanted to come to New York for Ciara.

Like, that's, she wanted to be here.

So I don't think he really wants to leave.

Like, they live here.

Him and his kids and his family live here.

So the Jets would make a lot of sense.

And again, if you have Geno signing off on it, I, I, there's a lot worse you can do.

I mean, again, I, I do believe deep down that Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, even if they're confident they're going to sea next year like they are confident they're gonna sea next year, a part of them does realize that if this bottoms out or bellies out, like, the, the odds of that happening- Yeah, yeah get a little bit slimmer.

You know what I mean?

Like, they do.

Yeah.

And if you're gonna have to go into a situation where, say, Geno gets hurt, or Geno's gonna miss a month or two months, or maybe he misses the season, like, it could get really, really ugly if you have to go to a Cooper Rush, or if you have to go to a Bailey Zappe, or you have to go to Klubnick before he's ready.

I mean, there is, that could really be an ugly, ugly season, and I don't necessarily know if they survive it.

So if that were to happen, what do you feel more confident in?

And I think Russell's the guy that you feel confident that if he goes out there and has to play quarterback, you are still going to be a normal bad football team, not a what we saw from Brady Cook the final month of last season.

Yeah, let, and that's, that's a very fair point.

Like, what, what I would say is, like, as a outside observer, what the organization should do is, like, try to find the guy with the highest ceiling long-term that could be, like, a long-term backup.

But to your point- Aaron Glenn might not have the time to let, you know, Cade Klubnick go through his lumps in his rookie season if they have to play him.

So, like, w- if it was what I would do if I'm running the Jets and I know my job is safe for the next year, I would go for a Will Levis, I would go for a Spencer Rattler.

Yeah, I agree.

I would roll with Zappe and Klubnick, like, something like that.

Like, aim f- more for the younger guys.

But yeah, like, if you're, if you're coaching for your job and you're like, "Okay, if Geno, for whatever reason suffers an injury that he's out for multiple weeks, like, can I survive if Bailey Zappe is starting for three games in a row?"

Like, you know, I might not have a lot of confidence in that.

I don't know.

I And they might be trying to figure that out in these next few weeks in, in OTAs and stuff, like, see how these guys look in camp.

Like, can we, do we see enough from Klubnick, Zappe, if they bring anybody else in, that we c- we feel like we can at least go into training camp with them?

Like, that'll be part of the discussion.

but yeah, you know, ultimately, if it's not Russell Wilson, though, as we're, like, talking about this, like, let's say it's not Russell Wilson.

Like, who's gonna be their number two backup?

Like, a- Yeah, so I just brought the list up Cooper Rush, I guess.

Yeah.

You mind if we read through the list?

Cooper Rush, I guess, is probably Like, Josh Dobbs and Cooper Rush are, like, the only free agents pretty much available right now.

Oh, Jimmy G, but he's not coming here.

Basic- Yeah, so I, I have up right now, this is the top available from Spotrac, unrestricted free agent quarterbacks.

You have one, and he was in Jets garb the other day, Aaron Rodgers.

So Aaron Rodgers is the number one.

Then you have Russell Wilson and Cooper Rush.

Jimmy Garoppolo, who's contemplating retirement, so I think there's basically zero chance he's- Yeah going back.

And the fact that the Rams moved forward like they did with the quarterback situation and the Cardinals moved forward- Yeah the quarterback situation, I think it's pretty clear that Jimmy's retiring.

Teddy Bridgewater, John Wolford, Easton Stick, Brett Rypien, Skylar Thompson, and Jeff Driskel are the top options available per Spotrac.

And, like, obviously you can go down, like you said, Josh Dobbs, but shout out MYJ Matt, that's how our original feud started, was over Josh Dobbs and whether he would've taken the Jets- to the playoffs a few years ago.

But, maybe that will come full circle.

But either way, man, like, Dobbs or Wilson, Rypien or Wilson.

Who else is on this list that I just read off?

Like, Bridgewater or Wilson, Wolford or Wilson, Stick or Wi- like, all of those guys, like, I, I-I mean, I even put Brady Cook and, like, the guys they have already over a lot of those players.

So it almost feels like that is the Jets' best bet, and it's why they're interested in it.

Again, they're not They don't have a contract signed or anything like that, but it's why they're interested in it and Russell Wilson's interested in it.

But if you're Wilson, do you wanna stick around one more year to be a backup and maybe play some spot duty snaps with a team that has no chance of winning a Super Bowl, or do you wanna go into broadcasting where you're gonna make a lot more money?

And that's something he's gotta battle with and, and figure out here, because again, they're The thing with Russell, man, is, like, yeah, he's gonna be the He's gonna try really, really hard in practice, and he's gonna say all the right things in the media, but there is, like, a aura of him.

I mean, and part of that's because of who he's married to, dude, but he was the Giants' backup quarterback, third-string quarterback, 'cause they made Jackson, Ja- Jameis Winston number two, and he's still on the stage at, like, Dick Clark's or Ryan Seacrest's New Year's Rockin' Eve.

Like, so there is a star to Russell Wilson that can overshadow a lot of situations with a quarterback.

And I think Geno Smith being comfortable and entrenched here as the starter is a good opportunity for him if he wants to go.

we talked about those other quarterbacks, Zach, and then the one that is not available at all, just moving on here quickly to touch upon this.

I don't have too much to add to it.

Tyrod Taylor this afternoon- Yeah signing with the Green Bay Packers, so his career will continue.

Good for Tyrod.

I mean, I, I remember talking to him in the- Yeah Giants locker room, and he made it clear that he doesn't wanna do the veteran mentor anymore.

That's why he wanted to stick with the Jets and Aaron Rodgers.

Like, he wants to just be a backup quarterback and maybe s- play some games if somebody goes down.

He doesn't wanna have to be some mentor anymore.

So that's gonna be an opportunity there for him behind Jordan Love.

Yeah, I mean, that's the first team he's joining that you look at going into a season as, like, a possi- a likely contender that he's been on in a few years.

Um- Well, Jets can't remember- You can make the Jets in '19.

Yeah.

Or you mean, you mean in 20f- 20, four or something?

Oh, I'm sorry, yes, with, with Aaron.

With Aaron, I'm sorry.

With Aaron Rodgers.

Yeah, yeah.

Yes, with w- the, the- Yeah, yeah his first year with Rodgers In theory, you know, theoretically they were, they were a contender, yeah.

Um- Yeah.

But yeah, I mean, good, good This is It's good for him.

Like, I, I, I think ultimately if the Jets and him wanted to do a remarriage it would've happened already, and so the fact that he lingered this long, the Packers clearly wanted a, a better backup.

I mean, they lost Malik Willis, so they need to replace Malik Willis, and, you know, that, that's a really good place to be.

They have a great infrastructure in place, great play caller, you know, good supporting cast on offense.

Jordan Love I don't think has played a full season.

I, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he hasn't played 17 games, so there's a chance that Tyrod plays for them.

And yeah, I mean, it just- He absolutely will from our s- from our perspective, just, like, elite, like, media guy, locker room guy.

Everybody loves Tyrod.

Like, that's, that's like a You can't You're not gonna find someone who doesn't like Tyrod Taylor.

2023, Jordan Love played a full game.

And yeah, the contender- Okay I Again, the Jets bottomed out, dude, but, like, when he joined the Jets as Aaron Rodgers' backup after the- Yeah Achilles year, that Jets team was considered by many people as a chance to make a run.

I mean, think about it.

Like, they bottomed out and we think about it as what they ended up being and what we saw in training camp, but that was Aaron's back, Tyron Smith- Yeah Mike Williams.

Like, they got everybody, dude.

So that was, that was, that was a big one.

But yeah, I mean, I don't- Yeah, we should talk about, we should, we should talk about the, another quarterback that could become available coming up.

Yeah, you wanna do that?

So- Yeah, let's do it.

The, the chat's been firing up about it, by the way.

They're, they're- Are they?

firing up about this guy.

Yeah.

Are they?

So Sam, Sam, Sam Candel, our, our- Mm-hmm our producer for this episode's monitoring that chat for us and then feeding it, feeding the comments to you, Zach.

So all right, I Let, let's talk Brandon Swordsby.

Let's do it.

Let, let's, let's get into this one, because I think it is a fascinating discussion.

Yeah.

And we were doing the pod last week, and that was when this news broke.

And admittedly, like- With Bruce, yeah yeah, with, with Bruce Feldman, who is awesome.

Thank him again for, for coming on the show.

But we were doing that when it broke, and I was like, "Okay, like, a, a quarterback in college."

Like, again, I, I've stressed over and over again when it comes to college football, like, I'll watch the games, I enjoy it, but, like, we're Both of us are so fixated on what we cover and do for a living, like, it's impossible to do both.

So usually around draft time is when I start really getting to know all the players and figuring it all out, and, and Swordsby is obviously going to be one of those players, but he's not in the arch or the more, like, the top, top three to five quarterbacks that are available in next year's class.

I Doing the research on him since though, dude, like, this is a legitimate, legitimate quarterback prospect.

And I, I think what is fascinating right now, and just to kind of summarize very loosely what is going on, he got popped for gambling on just about everything.

Like, it's not This isn't a situation like Miles Austin with the Jets where he was doing table games or something where, you know, another kid was betting non-sports that he covered.

Like, the, the Brandon was, he was betting on everything.

Like, it was It's not a very good situation.

he is trying right now to become, a- eligible to still play at Texas Tech this year.

Like, he still wants to play college football.

If he is deemed ineligible because of these gambling infractions, that's when the possibility of him entering the supplemental draft comes to fruition.

And depending on who you talk to, there are a lot of people that believe that is an avenue that he's gonna wanna go down.

Now, there are a lot of things that we need to cross before anyone even considers drafting him.

One- Yeah would the NFL blackball him and tell no teams are able to draft him because he's gambling?

You know how the NFL feels about gambling.

Would any team be interested in going after him because of the gambling stuff and all that, all that fun nature?

I will say, Zach, and I think we feel very, very similarly about this, and this afternoon sending a ton of text messages to people around the league that, that do this for a living and e- evaluate this thing for a living, I have heard rave reviews about this dude- Yeah where this isn't just some quarterback who throws the football.

Like, this is a legitimate, legitimate quarterback prospect.

I had one assistant general manager tell me that he is a no doubt absolutely first round pick.

Was texting with Connor Rogers actually earlier as well and said if he had a good year at Texas Tech, there's a good chance this guy's going top 15.

I mean, this is a pro style quarterback who a, one head coach told me, quote, Zach, "He's effing good," was how he said it.

Yeah, I mean, he's, he's 6'3", 235.

He's got a good arm.

He's really athletic.

He ran for, I think, 500 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

Doesn't really throw interceptions, doesn't really take sacks.

Like, a lot of stuff on paper that, like-You know, I think with the, like Kate Klubnick, he's kind of like what Kate- you, you kind of want Kate Klubnick to be, I think, 'cause he's a little bit bigger, he's a little bit more athletic, and he's a little bit better at making decisions under pressure and stuff like that.

I, I think we Everybody needed to see another year of him producing like he did at Cincinnati last year is the vibe I get.

Like, to your point, like everybody's like really high on his potential and they're like, "A year from now could be a top 15 pick."

But there's also the, the po- he's like one of those that you need to see it in a new divi- in a new conference, playing for a new team, and how is he gonna handle all the, the pressure that came with that.

I mean, clearly he wasn't handling it very well because he was gambling the whole time.

But, yeah, you know, the, the It's, it's a fascinating thing, like you said, because gam- this, like, s- this is such a new thing that the NFL is having to confront, the gambling thing.

Because, you know, you've had guys enter the supplemental draft after violating things in college, but it was never for gambling, at least not publicly that I'm aware of.

And so the one I, the one I think of, and I, I did a lot of research about the supplemental draft for a story I wrote last week, the one I think of is Terrelle Pryor.

So he was deemed ineligible, by Oh, no, he wasn't deemed ineligible.

He was suspended for five games by the NCAA for selling memorabilia illegally, because you're not re- you weren't supposed to do that back then, and he was gonna be suspended for five games.

He decided instead to go to the supplemental draft, and the NFL still enacted that five-game suspension, right?

So what does that mean for Brendan Surbeed?

Like, if the NCAA is gonna suspend him permanently, if, if they're gonna kick him out of college football, which it sounds like is the penalty for s- sports betting in general, if you, if you bet on sports, especially your own team, like the letter of the law says that.

They're gonna be able- they're gonna sue and they're trying to get it so he can still play and that's what the I think both, Texas Tech and him are trying to get that.

NCAA has never really dealt with something like this, I don't think, before, so I'm fascinated to see how they deal with it.

And so, and then if he figures out he can't play for them this fall or play in college football again, then he then has to apply.

It's not like he's definitely guaranteed to get- Yeah access to the supplemental draft.

He has to apply, NFL has to approve, and then at that point NFL teams are gonna wanna know, like, "Hey, is this guy gonna be suspended for a year?

Is he gonna be suspended indefinitely?"

Like, what, what would that look like?

The o- the only basis of history we have in terms of that would be you had that, that run a coup- in '23, I think it was, where like five, six, seven guys got suspended for gambling, and the, the one that jumped out to me was Isaiah Rogers was suspended indefinitely.

He wound up sitting out an entire year on the Eagles.

He didn't You're, weren- he wasn't arou- allowed around the team the entire year, and then he was, after, whatever he had to do to prove that he was not gambling anymore, they reinstated him, and then he played for the Vi- Eagles and then the Vikings and he became a pretty good player.

So, like, is that, is that the baseline?

I don't know, 'cause this is like you said, the evidence is that he, like thousands of bets, like there's all this stuff about how he was, like, at baseball games just, like, betting live props and, you know, he bet on Indiana when he was at Indiana, not playing.

he is in rehab, so I think what would have to happen is he has to prove, he has to have like a p- proof and references and things like that that say he is not gambling again and that we, we believe that he is healed from his addiction or whatever it is.

And so let's say you remove all of that, like history, and we don't know what the suspension's gonna be.

Let's say they allow him to go into the NFL.

They say, "Yes, you're in the supplemental draft, and, you're gonna be suspended for X amount of time, but not banned- Yeah from the league permanently."

So then, then the question becomes, like, what teams are gonna be willing to take the risk that this guy's not gonna, you know, do it again when he gets to the NFL?

but I, as you were saying, like I, I personally think it's worth the leap of faith because this is a rare, rare instance where you're getting a guy that's projected to be a first-round pick next year in a historic class, and you're gonna be able to potentially get him now for less than a first-round pick next year.

Like y- w- for, for people who don't know the supplemental draft, you basically It's like a lottery between the teams with the six or fewer wins are put in the first bucket and, and so they're put in a lottery, and so whoever wins that gets, that's the draft order.

And then the next bucket is the rest of the non-playoff teams, and then it's the teams that made the playoffs.

And, and so, and then from there you bid a draft pick.

So let's say the Jets- Yeah bid a second-round pick.

If that's the highest bid, then they lose their second-round pick in 2027, no questions asked.

And so the question then becomes, like, how high of a draft value are you willing to take?

And, and I've been ranting for a while 'cause I was just trying to do, like, the lowdown of this, but I'm, I'm curious, like, where are you at in terms of what you would bid if you were an NFL team looking at this situation?

'Cause I, I know what I would bid.

I'm curious how high you would go.

Well, it, here, here's how I look at it, because honestly, Zach, if you, if you really just look at the nuts and bolts of it, the guy should not play, period.

he, like, this is You can go as far as, as every other example of somebody who was this aggressively betting on games that he was in or teams that he played for or whatever.

Like, this is a situation where he should not play.

He should be kicked out of college football, and the NFL should look at this and be like, "Why in the world would we take a chance on this guy when he's done this to this extent?

It's not worth it to us."

Like, that's how you should look at it in the grand scheme of things.

However, and we have seen this across the NFL landscape for all time, if a player has a skill set and a player can play, he will be given opportunity after opportunity after opportunity after opportunity.

Like, it does not matter what the infraction is, it doesn't matter what the transgression is, it doesn't matter what they do.

If they can still play football, they will be out there and be given an opportunity to play football.

It's why guys like Antonio Brown, despite being the absolute worst teammate in the world, was still given opportunities all the way up until he took off his shirt and ran off MetLife Stadium, right?

Yeah.

And like, wasn't the, the Who was the pass rusher that was, like, the, just a And again, this is totally different.

Like, this is domestic violence.

But like Ra- Randy Gregory.

Wasn't it Randy Gregory, the Cowboy?

Yeah, he had some issues.

And Ald- Aldon Smith also had some stuff too.

Yeah.Aldon Smith, another really good example with Aldon Smith.

Yeah.

Again, like a lot of issues off the field, but guess what?

Like, when he's on the field, he's a 12-sack a game guy, 15-sack a season guy.

Yeah.

So he's going to be given those opportunities.

Now again, this is gambling.

This isn't violence, this isn't a- this isn't anything like that.

But the NFL takes gambling seriously, so it should be something where it's like, "No, you can't play in the NFL.

You're gambling.

You were betting on your team, you were betting on this, you were betting on that.

Gambling's not allowed here.

You can't do it."

But because he can play, teams will want to get him.

And again, I, I sent text messages out to offensive coordinators, to offensive assistants, to head coaches, to general managers, assistant general managers.

Everybody got back saying the exact same thing to me: "The dude can play."

Another quote that I wrote down when I was like, "Hey, is..." Like literally, I s- my question was like, "Is this dude legit?

Like, is this an actual legit?"

And the response from a GM was, "Oh, no, he is legit."

Like, this is something where the guy has, like you said, Zach, he's big physically, strong arm, accurate, mobile.

The only issues that people have with him right now is technique, fundamentals, mentals obviously with the gambling stuff, and then footwork.

All things that universally people believe all he needs is another year to s- not sit, but to develop and work on his craft, and he will be better.

When you're talking about a quarterback in a quarterback-rich class that was going to potentially be a top 15, top 10 pick, as long as he doesn't have a Drew Aller-like decline this, this coming season, people are going to take chances on him.

Would I go first round pick?

No.

Would I go second round pick if I had multiple?

Would I go third round pick?

Absolutely.

To get this guy in your building, to develop him.

And if you're the Jets, Zach, where you have your starting quarterback entrenched in Geno Smith, and you have an offensive coordinator in Frank Wright who you believe is a, quarterbacking guru is thrown around so much, but you believe can develop a quarterback in Frank Wright, yeah, I, I think for a third round pick it's something I would absolutely, absolutely explore.

Second, maybe I'm a little bit more timid on, but a third round pick, I think absolutely.

Yeah, that's, that's kind of where I'm at.

I, I would say- Real quick, Zach, you mentioned the touchdowns too.

27 touchdowns- Yeah five interceptions in 2025.

Yeah.

He's played a ton of college football, 35 games, 60 touchdowns, 18 interceptions.

You're right, the guy just doesn't throw picks.

Yeah, which, and he do- and he doesn't take sacks either, which the Jets have had a lot of quarterbacks who take sacks, so.

Yeah.

like Justin Fields, a- and, Zach Wilson.

but in terms of the draft picks, like yeah, I would Like, that's kind of where I'm at.

I, I, I should say, like, there's been some national reporting, like guys who are pretty plugged in like Adam Schefter, Tom Pelissero, and I believe Albert Breer all suggested, like, top 75 picks.

So that would be top, like, two and a half rounds, basically.

Um- Mm-hmm which is interesting, 'cause that means somebody's told them that, I would think.

I, I don't know that I can't see a team bidding a first round pick.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Unless everything gets cleared and the NFL tells these teams, "We are not gonna suspend him," or, "We're only gonna suspend him for half the season."

Like, if he's gonna be available to you this season.

'Cause it's important to remember, if, if you're suspended for an entire season, during that suspension you are not allowed in the building.

Like, you are not allowed to communicate with the team.

Yeah.

Like, so you're kind of on an island, and so it's not like you're developing the guy behind the scenes if you don't have him for an entire year.

But if these, if, if the NFL is telling me that, like, you're gonna get Brendan Sorsby this year, I would, I would, I would bid up to a second round pick.

The Jets do have three first round picks, which, you know, makes it a little less, like, debilitating if you give up your second round pick, and- Yes you know, let's say he doesn't play the entire season or whatever.

It's still a second round pick, like it's a valuable selection.

But I'm just more like, if you evaluate him, and the Jets have evaluated him, like I should say.

Like, they, they scouted him this last year 'cause there was a chance he was gonna come out for this draft.

He was eligible.

he was at the Texas Tech Pro Day.

I believe they talked to him or at least, like, watched him throw or something along those lines, and they are aware of him as a prospect.

Like, they know what kind of player he can be.

I don't know what they think of him, but if they think highly of his potential, like, the Jets need to find their franchise quarterback.

Take a swing, and you're doing it for less than a first round pick, like, absolutely.

So third round pick is probably what I would ultimately bid, like, gun to my head.

But, like, I would consider a second, I really would.

And it, but it mostly just comes down to, and I don't think the NFL is gonna do a supplemental draft before, and the supplemental draft, by the way, would be sometime in July if they do it.

They don't do it every year.

There has to be eligible guys.

there hasn't been one drafted since 2019, Jalen Thompson.

He's a pretty good safety.

Cardinals got him for a fifth.

But I would think that by the time the supplemental draft happens, the NFL would tell teams, like, "Okay, so this is what we're thinking."

Although the NFL takes a while to investigate suspensions and stuff, so who knows?

Like, that's, that's, like, why it's so hard to say, like, am I bidding a third round pick on a guy that they're gonna tell, that could be suspended either in permanently or for a year?

No.

But, like, if you're telling me, like, we're gonna suspend him for 12 games, like, or whatever the length of a college football season, 14 games.

Like, suspending him for an entire college football season, then I would be more willing to bid a third round pick, 'cause the Jets can survive without that third round pick next year if there's a chance.

And you, you could get Brendan Sorsby and go into next year's draft and still draft Dante Moore, and then you have a quarterback room with Dante Moore, Brendan Sorsby, and Cade Klubnick, and, you know, Bl- I was about to ask that for you.

Yeah.

So if, I'm, I'm gonna pose and we'll, we'll move on to s- to some other stuff here that we wanna get to.

This is the last kind of point on Sorsby.

But say, say we're probably in lockstep here.

They go third round pick and they get Sorsby, right?

In this hypothetical world, they bid a third round pick, they're awarded Sorsby for the third round pick.

They finish four and 13 next year, and they're terrible- and they're picking top three.

You have Sorsby on the roster.

Say you didn't see him at all, but you invested a third round pick in him.

Does that skew you from using a top five pick that they would have on a quarterback next year for a third round pick?

Same question if they did a second round pick on him.

For me, it's third round pick, I don't care.

Fine.

I, I would still go and take your Arch or your Moore or whoever Chris Car- whoever you love, or CJ Carter, whoever you love in the NFL draft next year who's like your dude, I have absolutely no problem with you going and drafting him top three, top four, top five if you use a third round pick on, on Sorsby.

I'm a little-less in on it if it's a second round pick.

I, I think a second round pick is still a legit asset, dude, that you don't necessarily wanna give up.

I So you're saying in this scenario, like let's say they bid the second round pick and get him, you would then not- Yeah wanna turn around and draft one next year, you're saying?

Yeah, correct.

Yes.

I, I think I would still be okay with drafting one just because they have three first round picks.

Okay.

And so- Okay that's, 'cause, and that's, 'cause, you know, I, I, you wanna build the roster around whoever, maybe Soarsby winds up being the quarterback, in that scenario.

But, so you still are able to draft a quarterback and a wide receiver and an edge rusher in the first round and still be, or trade back and pick up a second round pick.

And so I think they've given themselves such- amazing vo- maneuverability next year, with three first round- Yeah like, they have it now.

Like, they traded up to get a third this year.

They, I don't know, has a team gone a whole year having three first round picks in NFL history?

Like, I, I honestly don't know the answer to that.

It feels like if the Oklahoma City Thunder just accumulating draft picks and just getting f- top five picks even when they're winning.

So I, I still would be, would be willing to draft one next year if I'm using a second rounder on Soarsby.

But yeah, I mean, it's a conversation.

I mean, like you said, second round pick is a big asset, so, you have to really believe in him if you're bidding that high.

And, you know, you also, we also should look at the landscape.

Like, so like what teams would be willing to bid on him?

Like, I, there's, there's a bunch that need quarterbacks, but not a lot of them have multiple draft picks early next year.

So, like, the Steelers.

Like, would the Steelers bid a first round pick on him?

I don't know.

That's an interesting one.

Would the Cardinals, would the Browns, would the, you know, like I would think a, a team that thinks they're gonna be bad is probably not gonna bid a first round pick because you might be giving up a top five pick to get Brendan Soarsby and he doesn't play for you.

So they probably bid a second round pick or a third, I would think.

And so it's, the landscape of it all is interesting.

The Steelers would be the biggest threat to me, honestly, 'cause they don't have a long-term solution on their roster.

Would they give up a first or a second to get Brendan Soarsby?

Like, that would be the one I'd have my eye on out of other potential teams that could steal him.

I will say the majority of the teams that I reached out to about Soarsby did not believe that he was going to be eligible for a supplemental draft.

So it's like a weird, like a lot of the teams, it's, it's a, no, a lot of people aren't sure.

It's like if he's there, he's- Yeah gonna get picked in the supplemental draft.

That's going to happen.

But a lot of these teams are waiting to hear on is he actually going to be available or is he not.

real quick before we move on here, Zach, the supplemental pick history since 2002 of the players drafted high, like I didn't include guys that were fifth or sixth round supplementals.

You had running back Tony Hollings in the second round by the Texans.

Ama- Ahmad Brooks, the linebacker for the Bengals in 2006.

Josh Gordon was a second rounder in 2012.

Terrell Pryor, a third rounder from the Raiders in 2011.

And then the Giants used a That's a great one.

Giants used- Amazing a third rounder on Sam Beal in 2018.

Were you covering the Giants then or was that just the Jets?

Or Eagles, I'm sorry.

No, I, I came in So he, he also, Sam Beal had an amazing run where he got hurt, I think, his rookie year.

He sat out the COVID year.

he d- he like took the, you had the exemption that you could take- Yeah to not play for the year.

He came back and got arrested for like bringing a gun across state lines or something like that.

And then I think he got cut in '21, I believe, in training camp.

So Dave Gettleman burned a third round pick on this kid who I think was viewed as like a talented player but had like a lot of issues, which is why he was, in the supplemental draft.

But- Oh just a generational run from Gettleman.

I think the Sam Beal pick actually flies under the radar 'cause it doesn't appear when, when you plug in like- Yeah NFL draft classes, like that doesn't appear.

Yeah.

So I think people forget about him.

Amazing.

I, I always remember 'cause I don't even think he really, I, yeah, he's, he, he popped up again though, Beal did.

I forget where.

Like, it was one of those XFL, UFL- Yeah something like that.

And I mean, he didn't make any run or anything along those lines.

other Jets news that has happened here, Zach, as we move on a little bit here, and then we're gonna talk some UDFAs quickly.

But, Jets decided, which we knew this was gonna happen, they picked up Will McDonald's fifth- Yeah year option.

Now it's gonna be fun to see how he and Bailey work together, because I think the biggest concern with Bailey is Bailey as a run defender.

That's very similar to Will McDonald.

Now, Bailey is a far superior player overall than Will McDonald, which is why Will was available where he was and Bailey was a top two pick.

I mean, Bailey is a, a much better prospect.

But I, I would not lie to you if, if, I'm not lying to you when I say that I do have my concerns and my worries that on first and second down if these two guys are on the field, the opponents to the Jets are just gonna go stretch, stretch, stretch and just beat them to a pulp on the outside and go big, get themselves into second and fours, second and threes, third and twos, third and ones.

And then this pass rush that the Jets would love to deploy with Will and Bailey and some guys blitzing and whatnot, you just, you never see it.

Yeah.

It's a, it's a really fair concern because ultimately if the Jets are gonna be trailing in games, and I'm not saying they're gonna be trailing all of them.

I think they're gonna be pretty competitive this year actually.

I don't know how many games they're gonna win, but I think they're gonna be competitive.

And they have like a handf- they have the last place schedule, so they're gonna be going against like the Titans, the Cardinals, the Browns, like some of the bad teams.

But, c- do you trust either of these guys on running downs?

I think Bailey's the one that you hope can be better on running downs.

I think at this point we know what Will McDonald is.

Like, I just don't see him developing into a run stopper at this point in his career.

What I do like about their outside linebacker group is you have those two and you have Joe Asaye and you have Kingsley Enigbare, and those guys are better run stoppers, so you have like a legit rotation.

But like how, how much are you gonna be pulling Will and David Bailey off the field is my question.

And, and how much are they gonna be running 3-4 versus 4-3 is also an- Yeah interesting thing.

And, ultimately I think Will McDonald, Will McDonald is good for what he is, which is a pass rush specialist in the NFL.

you know, that $13 million figure in 2027, that's, that's probably around what he would make in free agency, if not maybe even a little bit less just 'cause he is pr- productive.

So, yeah, it's a, it's a big year for him I, I think.

Like I think he had a bad year last year.

The numbers are a little bit inflated.

He had eight sacks.

Six of them came over two games.

There was four in one game and two in another.

And so he, he basically didn't get any sacks the majority of the games this season.

There was a lot of games where he was completely invisible- Yeah where they were pulling him off the field on running downs. And the Jets didn't have a better supporting cast around him.

Like, if you wanna be optimistic at all for Will this year, it would be that you have David Bailey, you have Joe Hasi, you have Tavondre Sweat up front, you have David Onyemata up front.

Like, there's more guys- Right to where, like, there's not gonna be as much attention on Will McDonald you would think.

But yeah, I've, I have concerns about what he's not good at and- Yeah having too many guys on the field who can't stop the run and- Yeah and beyond that, like in the 3-4, you have those two guys, you have Demario Davis, and you have Jamie and Sherwood.

If either of their inside linebackers get hurt, I think they're in trouble right now, and I don't even think Sherwood is, like, a lock to be particularly good, 'cause he was particularly bad last year.

So, like, there's some concerns I have in the w- in the linebacker room broadly if we're counting them as outside linebackers.

but it, it is, like, on paper, a solid group of guys, I would say that.

But yeah, like, the, the Will-Bailey combo, like, they need one of them to show up on running downs, and the evidence is that both those guys aren't particularly good at that.

Yeah.

A- again, I, I've said this before, Zach, and I, I kinda keep repeating it over and over again, but when it comes to the Jets this season, I feel very, very confident that they are going to have, at baseline, a fun offense, or at least a more fun offense than what we've seen in recent years.

And that's because I think they have a quarterback that's gonna be uber-aggressive and not care about interceptions, and dish it left, right, and sideways.

They're gonna have the rushing attack with Breeland Edreess is gonna be healthy.

The offensive line is going to be, at minimum, an average group, and an average group in the NFL is better than most offensive lines in the NFL.

So that's Th- they hit their potential with, with, Fash- Olu and, and R- and, Membu.

Like, if they, if they f- hit all of their potential with everybody up front, they could be a really good group, which is just gonna make that offense even f- more fun, and they're gonna have receivers that are left and right with Cooper and Garrett Wilson, and AD Mitchell, and now Sadiq with where's he gonna be?

And Mason Taylor, where's he gonna be?

I mean, I think they have a fun group on offense.

Defense, I'm worried about.

I, I have a lot of concerns that this defense is gonna let up a lot of points, and part of that has to do with I question the personnel.

And if I'm being completely honest with you, part of that has to do with the fact I question Aaron Glenn as the defensive coordinator because throughout his tenure with the Detroit Lions, he never had an elite level defense over there.

He got really good production out of groups of guys when a bunch of people went down, but people will look at what Aaron Glenn did in even his best years in Detroit and say, "Well yeah, look what he was getting from Ben Johnson in the offense."

And I know Aaron Glenn wears that, and that annoys him at points, but I do think that that's something to keep an eye on it.

And again, one of the reasons why I favored Arvell Reese, because I thought Arvell Reese was a guy who could do a bunch of different things.

real quick, moving on here, Zach, and then we're gonna get to some fan questions that people have sent in for us.

The Jets signed eight undrafted free agents post-draft, running back Trip, and I'm gonna probably mispronounce- these guys, so I very much apologize for this.

I mean, I can't even get Sam's name right, our producer, so just bear with me here.

running back Chip Traniam, wide receiver, three wide receivers, wide receiver Collin Lacy, Malik McClain, and DT Sheffield, tight end Chase Curtis, offensive lineman Koby Barnes, kicker Will Ferren, and then linebacker Kendrick Blackshear, or Blackshire, I'm sorry.

Zach, of that group, who do you think is most likely to make the roster?

Who's gonna give the best chance to make the roster?

Well, I think you, you, the one, the one I think is most likely to make it you didn't mention, which is the kicker, Will Ferren, from BYU.

Oh, I said him.

Um- No, I said him I did?

Okay.

I wasn't- Yeah I wasn't sure if I heard you.

Thanks for listening.

Yeah, so I, I, I touche, touche.

so the, I did, like, a rankings of the guys most likely to make it.

I had Will Ferren one, Chip Tranium two.

He was, like, Chip Tranium was the only, like, guy with a draftable grade out of the UDFAs, and the long snapper Garrison Grimes, 'cause I think- Yeah it seems like if they're signing that guy, it's gonna be a legit competition with Thomas Edison, who's been here a long time obviously.

Garrison Grimes, according to that RAS score thing, had, like, the best score of any long snapper in combine history.

Like, he is the most athletic long snapper to, like, ever come into the NFL, I guess.

So- Yeah something to keep note of.

But yeah, Will Ferren, they're gonna have a kicker competition again.

They do it yearly at this point.

It'll be between him and Cade York, and then they have a German kid named Lenny Kreeg.

Ferren had a down year at BYU.

He was, like, 2 of 7 from 40 to 49, made most of his 50-yarders.

The year before, he was like dynamite.

He just was not good last year.

So if he can get his magic from a couple years ago, like, he'll push Cade York, who also, I don't know if he's a particularly good kicker.

Like, he, the Giants had him and, like, just didn't play him.

he, he had a, he's made, like, 70% of his field goals in, in the NFL.

yeah, it's, it's an interesting UDFA class.

Like, there's not as many big names.

Usually they'll get, like, a Donovan Edwards in there that fans get excited about.

Yeah.

But, like, if you look at the 53, they signed, like, so many guys and drafted so many guys that there's not, like, a lot of spots to be won on this team weirdly.

For a team that's not gonna win, like, a ton of games, there's not, like, a lot of roster spots to be won, so that's kind of the group that interests me.

They, they did sign a corner from, BYU.

His name's Maury Bomba, I believe.

He ran, like, a 4.2 940.

He's, like, 6'3".

he wasn't very productive in college, but, like, he, he's, like, the, one of the more intriguing ones on the list, but I, I don't, I don't envision a, a lot of guys making the 53 this year, I would say, out of this group.

No.

I, wh- when it comes to those, like, s- I say this every year.

When it comes to those seventh round picks, the undrafted free agents, you're just looking for physical specimens that you might be able to develop into it.

And I, I, I tell this story all the time 'cause it cracks me up, and it didn't necessarily work out for them, but the Giants drafted this, this defensive lineman, Jordan Riley, a couple years ago.

And, one of my best dudes in, in the NFL who I'm, I'm really close with is, is a, a defensive coach who specializes in the defensive line.

And, like, during the draft, he's awesome, 'cause I'll hit him up and just be like, "Dude," like, "what do you think of, like, this guy?

What do you think of this guy?"

And, and, this coach is, like, he's obsessed with the draft.

Like, sometime coaches like the draft, and sometimes coaches don't.

Like, sometimes they go to all the pro days, and they scout all the guys, and they have their own personal big board.

And sometimes it's just not something they do.

They wait for the players to come in, and then they coach the players that they get.

That's sort of their thing.

They're not big scouting guys.

This dude is one of those scouting people.

And I remember it's the seventh round of the draft or whatever, the Giants draft Jordan Riley, and I shoot him a text like, "Hey, gotta do a quick video on this dude.

What do you know about him?"

And he hits me up and he goes, "Connor, I'm gonna be honest with you."

He goes, "I think I probably scout and evaluate more college players than any other defensive line coach in the NFL.

I have never heard of this person before."

And I'm likeWell, that's weird, 'cause the Giants just drafted him.

Come to find out, like, when Joe Schoen comes down from his, like, for his, post-draft press conference to talk to us, and he's asked about Jordan Riley, he goes, "Yeah," he goes, "I was at Oregon scouting somebody else, and I saw this massive human being walk by me, and I was like, 'You know what?

If we could teach him to play football, he's gonna be a physical specimen.

Let's bring him on the roster.'"

So those are the guys you're kinda looking for at UDFAs.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

For the Eagles, with, like, the left tackle.

He's the ridiculous left tackle, Jordan Mailata.

Like, worked out for the Eagles- Well, he was a seventh, he was a seventh- Doesn't- He was a seventh-round pick, but yeah, that was- Yeah it always Well, they also, they drafted another guy this year like that, Uwe Bernardo or whatever- Yes that, that, that, that dude who has, like, the most freakish athleticism of all time.

He'll probably be a star.

Yeah.

So the Eagles draft Jordan, and they turn him into, you know, Jonathan Ogden, and the Giants draft- Jordan Riley, hoping he's gonna be, Aaron Donald, and instead he's probably gonna get cut this year.

So we'll see.

All right, Zach, you wanna do some fan questions before we wrap this thing up?

Yeah, let's do it.

All right.

So, again, we appreciate everywhere you guys are watching us.

This is, questions compiled from YouTube.

This is questions compiled from X, everywhere like that.

Again, this is the off-season, so the weird thing about covering the NFL from our perspective is there's little questions and comments that, like, we don't think are big deals that fans might actually be really interested in.

So this is a really good opportunity for you guys to take a little bit of ownership of this show, and gear Zach and I, and use the people that we know, and just some information that we've gathered along the way to answer comments that you guys have.

So the first one here, is from Brian Schnellner.

it says, "I want it to work with Aaron Glenn, but next year's schedule scares me.

Do you think a five and six win team that is competitive each week is enough for Glenn to keep his job and put everything together in 2027?"

I think that's the million-dollar question, Zach, is that what is the number that Aaron Glenn comes back with?

Two, three, four I don't think does it.

I, I think that there are legitimate changes for the Jets, potentially wholesale, even looping in Darren Mougey if this team only wins two, three, or four games.

I know everything, every way that the Jets have operated this year, and everything the Jets have done to this point has not indicated that they are a team that's trying to win a ton of games now.

In fact, the way that they've actually run this off-season, it almost feels like Glenn and Mougey are confident that no matter what, they're getting 2027.

But for them to actually get there, I think five and six wins is when you start to, we have to have a discussion.

Seven wins, I, absolutely they're safe.

Two, three, four- Yeah I don't think they are.

Five or six is where that, that key word that Brian put in there, competitive.

A competitive five and six win team is.

Yeah, that's the, it, it's all about context in that situation, yeah.

Yeah.

All right.

Yeah, I mean, like this is a, this is a good I feel like this is a good seg- segue to kinda like even at least throw out that the schedule is coming out in a couple weeks.

I just wanna run through their opponents, because I think- that's notable for as we, like, project out how many wins we think they're gonna get.

Like I, the obvious, like, wins in theory on the schedule would be the Dolphins one to two times.

I'll never be convinced they're gonna win in Miami until they do it, so that's why I say one to two.

Raiders, Browns, you got Titans, Cardinals, and those are the only ones that I could say are, like, the Jets, you know, conceivably could be, like, the better team that day.

The, in terms of, like, playoff caliber teams, you have the Bills twice, Patriots twice.

You have the Broncos.

They play the Broncos every year somehow.

I do not understand it.

Broncos, Packers, Vikings, Chargers, Chiefs, Bears, Lions.

Like, it's not an easy schedule for a last place team.

No.

I, I saw they had, like, the fifth best, strength of schedule.

Yeah.

I think that's, a lot of that's based on, like, you have the Cardinals, and Titans, and, and Dolphins on there, and the Browns.

so like, just based on what I just said, that sounds like a five or six win team to me, and then to your point, it's, it's about context at that point.

So w- what kind of five or six win season is it?

Are, is it at the end of the season, you're losing four in a row by 20 plus again?

Or is it- Yeah you're competitive against good teams, you beat the teams you're supposed to, and you end the season feeling better about yourself than when you started?

Like, that's the very baseline what they need to accomplish.

Like, that's, it's, it I think people who aren't Jets fans have made fun of this idea, but, like, the a- the goal for the Jets this season is competence.

Like, the goal isn't make the playoffs.

The goal is we wanna look like a competent football organization.

And it's, it's such a low bar if you're from, not from around here.

But, like, the Jets have not shown that in so long that, like, they need to show that this coaching staff knows what they're doing.

They need to show that Darren Mougey knows what he's doing.

They need to show that the guys they drafted can be core pieces, and they need to show that they're a quarterback away.

And, you know, so there's a lot from here to that, and so they have a lot to prove.

Like, Aaron Glenn, it was not a well-oiled machine last year.

It was not a well-run operation.

the play calling didn't make sense a lot of the times, and they need, they need to show really big signs of change.

Like, he changed his entire coaching staff, and most, and the entire defensive roster is different.

And if it doesn't look better than last year, then everybody's gone.

So.

Yeah.

I, looking at, I loosely would give them Miami.

I think they're better than Miami, Las Vegas, Cleveland, Arizona, and Tennessee.

I, I think- Arizona and Tennessee they're probably on par with, like they can compete with those two teams, and I think they're probably better than Vegas and Cleveland, and I think they're definitely better than Miami.

So that's, that's, those are the wins.

I mean, that would give If they win those games, that gives them five wins on the year, and then they would have to steal something else along the way.

Potentially six if they sweep the Dolphins, but I, I don't know if that's ever gonna happen.

All right, here's another one for you, Zach.

This is from Hank Knight, or @hankknight.

"Do you think the Jets need to shore up the linebackers before the season, and if so, who do you see as a realistic option?"

So this is what just, like, drives me nuts when it comes to, to questions.

And I don't mean this as, as disrespecting to Henry in any way, shape, or form, because I get these questions all the time from the Jets and from Giant fans about, like, "Oh, who can we get now to fix it?

Who can get now?

Who can get now?"

People who are available now are available now for a reason.

Like- Yeah there's not, th- no one that is going to fix the Jets' defense or make a difference on the Jets' defense is available right now.

You can sometimes find some okay depth signings.

You, like what the Giants have done with a couple of the interior defensive linemen that they've signed.

Like, you can find dudes that are, like, run-stuffing defensive tackles, and, like, you know, maybe a nose tackle here or there, or, like, a depth linebacker.

But you're not gonna find someone that's gonna be better than Jamie and Sherwood, or better than Demario Davis, or is gonna push somebody for a starting job at this point in time.

You're just not.

Like, it's, the guys who are free now are free now for a reason.

And, and I would just, I would focus on that.So what, what I would say is I, I agree with you, like, you're not gonna find a guy who's gonna be an upgrade over their starters, but they absolutely do need depth.

Like, the, the guys behind Sherwood and Damario Davis right now are Kiko Maui, Maui Noah is how it's pronounced, uh- Yeah as we've learned, throughout this process.

Marceline McCrary-Ball and, like, Kobi King, I think, are, like, the, the main guys.

So, you know, just looking at the free agents who are available, I'm not saying they'll sign these guys, but Bobby Okereke is still out there.

Um- Dude, he's so washed Kenneth Murray.

Yeah, but the point, this'll like- I thought that guy looked like Jamal Williams be your third line- this would be your third linebacker, so, Kenneth Murray, Matt Milano, Jelani Tavai.

Like, not exciting guys.

So yeah, to, to your point, like, temper your expectations, but they need, they need depth there.

They, I think they need a veteran receiver just to even just bring into the room, and I- Yeah and I'd say those are the main two positions probably.

I feel like I'm missing one.

But yeah, the, I mean, I think fans are gonna- I would more look towards the waiver wire when camp's over.

I, I think that's when- Yeah, and there's, and, and there's- you'll find, that's when you'll find- There's also post-June 1, there's probably gonna be some guys that break free, just 'cause you don't have to pa- you can, like, spread out- Yeah the dead cap hit a- after June 1st, so there might be some guys out there.

But yeah, I, I, it might be one of those things like last year where they traded for Jawan Briggs and Harrison Phillips ultimately.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That, that, that would be what I would keep an eye on is the, the cut down trades, the waiver wire acquisitions.

I think that's more when you'll find somebody that's gonna help the Jets in 2026 as opposed to on the free agency market right now.

All right, here's one from Edward Harrell.

"Connor and Zach, I think the Jets should offer Breece Hall a four-year," he tagged Breece Hall in this, so I'm surprised Breece didn't like it.

"Give Breece Hall a four-year fi- 60, four-year, $60 million contract with $52 million guaranteed with bonus targets where it could reach $56 million guaranteed.

thoughts?"

That would be $15 million APY for Breece.

I think that's rich.

I, I think that's- Yeah.

I, I don't, again, I mean, we're talking about $1 million more.

I, I think Breece should be looking for something that's about 14 per year, and we can argue over the guarantees and things of that nature.

But you are talking about s- somebody who has one 1,000-yard season, has dealt with injuries during his career, has a reputation that he doesn't necessarily love to get the tough yards and fight for the two or three yards a carry.

That he's constantly looking for the home run.

If the home run's not there, he's gonna dance and then go down.

Breece is a really good football player, but when you're talking about four for 60, that's a great football player, and I don't necessarily think that's there.

Now, ownership might love Breece, and that's what gets this done.

You know, a GM might say, "Look, we've got so much cap space next year.

Who cares if it's 60 verse 55?"

Whatever you want it to make it.

So we'll see, but I, I think, I think 15 a year for Breece is rich.

And four years, I mean, I guess it, the guarantees, depends on how it's structured and stuff like that.

I don't see the, I don't see Darren Mougey giving that long of a contract to a running back.

I think it'll, I, my guess would be it would be a three-year deal or a fake four-year deal- Yeah kind of thing if they're signing a long-term deal.

I've been more of the mind that I lean more towards him playing on the tag than signing a new deal.

I could be wrong.

but I, that's always been my kind of p- read and prediction on the situation.

I, I think both sides are motivated to a degree to sign a new deal, and it would be better for Breece's career if he signs a multi-year deal instead of playing on a franchise tag and risking hurting your value going forward.

But that's also, like, 14 million guaranteed for a season- Yeah which is not nothing.

So I, I still lean towards that.

I think what we're gonna, we're gonna find out quite a bit about how Darren Mougey thinks about positional value and how much money you spend on those positions with this because I- Yep he, he is very analytical, I think, and all the logic says you don't pay a running back a lot of money long term.

But the Jets also don't have a lot of blue chip guys, so it's like a, it's a, it's a complicated situation.

But I, I, I lean towards him playing on the tag personally.

I agree with you.

I, I think it's gonna be hard for them to figure out something, and it's just a matter of does he skip some of this off-season program or not?

All right, this one's from Alec Wells.

"If Cade Klubnik develops into a legitimate starter, what could they do with their cap space and picks next year?"

That would be- If Cade is, like, a legitimate starting quarterback- Like- in the NFL next year, like- Yeah, let's say he's, let's say he's Tyler Shuck.

Let's say he's Tyler Shuck this year is the scenario.

Oh my God.

Like- that would be like the Jets going from being in quarterba- quarterback purgatory to- like, quarterback euphoria.

Like, that would be it because now what, what are you paying your quarterback?

600 grand a year?

Like, that would be like the Russell Wilson contract forever in Seattle, where they were able to build that team into an all-pro roster because you're not paying your quarterback anything for at least three years.

Like, that would be the perfect situation 'cause I, I, that would be unreal.

They got him in, Cade was a fourth-round pick, right?

Yeah.

Fourth's, like, I mean, they're literally paying him nothing, so that would be, that would be an unbelievable world.

But I, I would, I would temper a lot of expectations on him because again, I saw something come out, I forget who said it, like, you know, if anyone, I think it was, "If anyone has a chance to be this year's Brock Purdy, it's Cade."

I think I saw somebody had that hot take, and I'm like, "Guys, what are we doing?"

Like, we've never seen a Brock Purdy before.

We've never seen Mr.

Irrelevant turn into what Brock Purdy's turned into, and I think that Kyle Shanahan has a lot to do with why Brock Purdy's Brock Purdy.

Like, I do.

I think that's a major part of this, even more so than Brock Purdy is.

He's just the perfect quarterback for that system.

Like, can we not start doing this now?

Like, let, let the kid get through rookie mini camp.

Let, let's see if the kid can even be a backup before thinking he could potentially be an option as a starter.

You know what I mean?

Yeah, let, let me track his throws during rookie mini camp before we make any- sweeping decisions, okay, guys?

Oh, I got in so much crap for tracking Jaxson Dart's throws at rookie mini camp.

I think that's when I said he had- Yeah, I enjoy it a chance to be the next Brock Purdy.

I don't care.

I'm gonna, I, I'm, I always lay it out like I know people are gonna, there are gonna be some people who are mad about this, but I enjoy doing this, and it doesn't matter ultimately, so I'm gonna have fun.

Correct.

And he's g- Yeah like, again, like, people, like, people crap all over it, crap all the, the idea of, like, OTAs- Yeah and mini camp stat tracking.

Guess what?

People read it.

Like, if you go back and look at the- Mm-hmm impressions on those posts, that's better than anything.

Like, they care.

Like, and I, I think it's because, Zach, it's one of those rare things right now, OTAs, mini camp, and a lot of training camp, where people are so hungry and crave for what's happening, and we are the only way to tell them what isThere's no video, there's no audio, there's no broadcast, there's no live streaming.

It is literally just what we say is the only way for fans who love this stuff so much to figure out what's happening.

And that's why, yeah, like, people might make fun of it.

Guess what?

Your fan Like, I guarantee you, who asked this question?

King, Alec Wells.

I guarantee you Alec Wells cares what Cade threw and completed in rookie mini camp.

I guarantee you he cares about it in OTAs.

So you're damn right we're gonna do it.

And you know what?

When we do it right now, Zach, when we, when we- put forth Cade's stats in rookie mini camp, I want it to be called the Alex Wells Report.

Can we do that?

Can we agree to that right now?

Well, you might be, you might be- Alec Wells- dealing, you might be dealing with a baby while I'm tracking those throws, though.

I'm gonna retweet you and just say #AlecWellsReport.

Okay.

Okay?

There you go.

So you tweet the stats and I'll retweet you and say it's the Alec Wells Report.

last- Perfect two, two quick ones here, Zach.

We can answer these ones quick, 'cause I think we gotta get out of here.

King Pink wants to know who is due for a breakout in 2026, or at least who will exceed expectations.

Gino Smith.

I'm gonna go Gino.

I think Gino's gonna exceed expectations- for what he's gonna do this year.

I think he's gonna be fun.

I don't think he's gonna do, do enough to be 2027 quarterback, but I think it's gonna be fun.

That's a good one.

I'm gonna say, I'll say AD Mitchell.

I, I see him having, with a quarterback that can throw to him when he's open, like, I think he could have a pretty nice year.

Yeah, there you go.

All right, this one.

@Captain, or this is from @JetsAgony.

This is, this is, this is ironic.

so his, his name is Captain Jets, his tag is @JetsAgony, and his question is, "I believe the Jets are trending super up right now.

They are literally one draft/quarterback away from really making noise.

Do you agree?"

Set, setting yourself up for some agony, buddy.

I think two off-seasons away.

Yeah, I think they're two off-seasons away.

I, I think I- Yeah, yeah.

No need the quarterback and they, that defense needs a lot of pieces, because it's not e- It- They don't even just need starters on defense, they need game changers.

I think David Bailey could be one, but they need one in the secondary, they probably need one at line.

Like, they need a lot of difference makers on that defense.

They don't have them right now.

Yeah, I mean, we, we haven't seen what Frank Reich play calling looks like, you know, after a few years away from the NFL.

We haven't seen how ready these rookies are.

Like, it, there's a lot of unknown factors here.

And the point I've been saying all off-season is they don't have a lot of blue chip guys.

Like, a lot of it's theoretical right now with David Bailey and the other first round picks, Kenyon Sadique and Omar Cooper.

Like, we don't know how those guys are gonna look.

If they don't hit, then that sets you back also.

So like, they need these guys to hit and to play immediately and to do well before I'm ready to say they're a quarterback and a draft away.

Like, I, I think they have a lot of things they have to figure out and fix before they're c- competing for the playoffs.

we got one more in here.

Sorry, Zach, I said that was the last one.

We have but one more.

This is from, @Connor_J_Hughes.

he wants to know your Knicks Sixers predictions.

Oh, man.

I'll say- You're a big f- Knicks- Now, when people don't know this about Zach, Zach's a big basketball guy.

Like, I think if- Yeah if you, I, I, let me I think this would probably be a fair statement to make.

If you went back and talked to 13-year-old Zach or however you old you were when you decided you wanted to cover sports, you probably would've said, "I wanna be an NBA writer," right?

That would've been your thing?

Well, I did s- Or NFL I did start out covering the Sixers.

That was my first pro beat before I moved over to the Eagles for, NJ.com.

Um- But you're a big NBA guy.

But as- Like, I go to you for NBA info- Yeah, yeah, yeah 'cause I'm loose ends I mean, Allen, Allen- Like, I love my Knicks basketball Allen Iverson, Allen Iverson is the reason why I even love sports.

He's the, he was my first, first introduction into loving sports.

Like, he was your first?

Yeah.

I was a b- he was my first.

I mean, I was obsessed with him.

I used to wear his jersey.

He had, used to have this, he had his own, like, jacket brand, and I, this jacket was, like, oversized.

It was, like, the, what it was, I wore this jacket to middle school that was so oversized I thought I looked so cool in it.

But it was so oversized that, like, 10 years later when I was adult it fit me perfectly as, like, a winter coat, so I kept this Allen- There you go Iverson jacket for years.

but yeah, I, I would say I've lost, like, some of the, like, passion I used to have just about, like, c- rooting for any team.

Like, w- when the team I root for loses, I don't, doesn't ruin my day anymore.

It's more like, "Oh, well that sucks."

And then when they win it's like, "Oh, that was cool."

I will say, the Sixers beating the, the Celtics in seven was pretty sweet.

I, th- like, they just don't beat the Celtics.

Like, I think Knicks and Sixers fans can both celebrate that, because everybody hates the Celtics.

So it happens.

So I will say this.

Right.

Sorry, I, I cut you.

You didn't even make your prediction yet.

What is, what is your prediction?

Yeah, I was about to say.

I'll s- I'll say Knicks in seven.

I think it's gonna be a good series.

Okay.

Whether the, I think the Sixers have the ability to win.

It just, as you know, just comes down to Joel Embiid being able to last the whole series, so.

I, I will say that the, the fan in me, as a Knicks fan, or let me, let me answer this two way.

If I was going straight breakdown the basketball of it all, the Sixers are the team that the Knicks should wanna play over the Boston Celtics.

And the reason for it is that the Celtics have the ability to do something that if you catch them on a two-week stretch where they're shooting well, you can't compete with them.

Like, they, they, what'd they lose that game, seven by nine points?

And they were absolutely abysmal from three-point land.

If they were even average from behind the arc, they win that game by 20 points.

Like, like, they, like, they have the ability to get so hot and they shoot so many threes that if they're on, the Knicks can't match that.

They can't.

Like, I think the Sixers, when you go truly by the, okay, who's guarding who, who's doing, I, I think the Knicks match up better with the Sixers.

With that said, my entire life being my parents from New York and me growing up in Philly has been Philly beats New York, no matter what, in all situations.

Which is why when the Sixers or the s- the Knicks beat the Sixers a couple years ago in the playoffs- Yeah I remember being there with my, one of my very, very close friends, Joe Lacalauncher is another huge, he's a big actually Jets fan, Knicks fan, and I remember we went to one of the games, and even when they finished that one off, looking at me like, "I can't believe New York just beat Philly."

Like, that doesn't happen in my life.

Like, that, that doesn't happen.

I go to school in my s- in my Knicks jersey, and people make fun of me.

Like, that's what happens.

I get bullied by the teachers in South Jersey.

Like, the tea- the, people think I got bullied by the kids.

No, my teachers in high school and elementary school and middle school bullied me if I wore anything New York.

So that was, like, the issue.

So my, my fandom is like, "I don't wanna do that again.

I don't wanna have Philadelphia beat me up again."

But I think that matches up better.

So, I will say I think the Knicks win in six.

I, I think that this is very interesting, and I'll say this even further, Zach, the winner of this series I think is going to the NBA finals.

I don't know if they win the NBA finals, especially if they play the Thunder, but I think the winner of this series- Yeah goes to the NBA finalsMan, that would, that'll be fun for either fan base, 'cause both have been through quite a bit in the last couple decades.

So, I think it's gonna be a fun series.

Like, Knicks and Sixers fans hate each other's guts.

These teams hate each other.

That series a couple years ago was a lot of fun.

Um- Yeah I'm looking forward to it.

It starts tonight, actually, so I'm, I'm sure you and I- Yes I would say, when you and I are texting each other about Knicks-Sixers, I'd say it's a lot less cordial than you and I are in, in this- Oh, it can get vicious, dude in this podcast.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But you should see the stuff I've sent to So my best friend from home, like, like, my- one of my oldest friends, is a diehard Philly fan, and he's a, he's a real fan.

Like, he's not fake, phony.

Like, he lives and breathes it, and he knows probably more about all sports than anybody that I know.

He's a nut.

His name's Matt.

And I was, I, at, the whole time, again, like, the things I was sending him about Joel Embiid and just calling him a dirty play- like, just to rev it a little bit, dude.

Like, you and him are the two I go back and forth with all the time, just to rub your face.

And Elliot too.

Other Elliot Short parks in the mix there as well, because he's just such a cocky Sixers fan that it drives me absolutely bonkers, so I hope the Knicks beat them just to rub it in his face.

But yeah, I think Knicks in six.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I'll tell you what, Zach, that if the Knicks lose tonight, I will be probably, like, as despondent and, lacking all confidence in the world as Actually, I'll say that this is my last point on this.

I s- picked the Knicks in six.

I probably should have picked, like, the Sixers in five, because my son is gonna be born.

Like, he's due May 7th.

So, and the latest that Bree can go is May 14th.

Or, yeah, May 14th.

The low- the, she'll be induced a- after a week.

I bought a Knicks onesie, because I'm like, "There's a very good chance," " if he comes between the 7th and 10th, I'm gonna be at the hospital during one of these games."

Like, one of these games is gonna be taking place while I'm in the hospital with my son.

It'll be so nice to have, like, I'll be in my Knicks shirt, he'll be in his Knicks onesie, and we can watch the game together.

And then I realized that I'm probably setting him up for a life of disappointment by watching- the 76ers kick the hell out of the Knicks and win this series in five games.

Just be like, "Well, welcome to being a Knicks fan, bud."

Like, that's what we'll do.

Yeah, welcome to the world.

My father-in-law's like, "Just raise him a Sixers fan."

I was like, "No, he needs, he needs skin.

He needs thick skin.

He'll get that being a Knicks fan more than a Philly fan."

Uh- The Jets anything else you wanna add here, Zach?

No, I mean, I, it, I think this is, this might wind up being our season finale, I would guess, right?

So I guess- It could be this'll be the wrap on, yeah, I guess potentially the wrap on the season.

If it is, congr- good luck to you and Bree.

Uh- Thank you I know exciting time for you guys.

Yeah.

So I am excited for you, as much as I dislike you in real life.

Um- Or in fake life, I guess.

But yeah- Yeah it's, it's exciting, so good luck to you guys.

Give Bree the best.

Thank you, buddy.

I mean, she has to now deal with a child, a child, and a child, including you, so that's Bree.

Yeah, she tells me that daily.

God bless Bree.

I've been, I've been a f- I've been, I've been told several times that she's about to have her third baby, which I- disagree with at times, but I am, I'm not that bad.

I will say that Sam texted me, our, our producer, Sam Candel- I'm not that bad texted me this today, and she said, she goes, "What, three ways preparing for a baby is like covering the Jets," and the answers that I came up with was, one, scheduling means absolutely nothing.

two, when you think you have it figured out, you actually don't.

And then three, there is always a curveball.

There is always, always, always a curveball, and I've learned that by raising my toddler, Brooke, and then I have learned that by preparing for this baby, absolutely.

But my wife is an absolute rockstar, and, can, can hold the fort down.

So we are waiting.

So far, nothing coming.

Like, I know, we, we're even scheduling this one, I was like, "Maybe we'll have a baby.

Maybe we'll don't."

But- you know me, Zach, I'm usually five minutes late to just about everything, so I have a feeling my son is going to be late as well.

So my, my prediction here is May 9th will be the, when he arrives, but we'll see.

All right, you said.

That's it, Zach.

You have anything else?

Anything fun going on with you?

No.

N- nothing, nothing fun.

going back to Nashville for my anniversary, otherwise just gonna be- Oh, that's- I've, yeah, I've a c- When is that?

It's almost been a year.

Yeah, end of the month- Wow has been a year since my wedding, yeah.

But I, I will say, just work-wise, I do have, I'm working on- I didn't think you were gonna make it, so congrats.

I mean, we haven't made it yet, technically.

Um- Yeah.

So, yeah but, but I, I, I have a couple profiles coming out on a couple of the guys in the Jets draft class.

I think one's gonna be this week, one next week.

So keep an eye out for that, I would say.

There you go.

And, Zach, you'll also still be available on Flight Plan with, with Tim McMaster.

You guys do a great job with that.

So you guys can catch Zach on that one.

we will be coming to you next week if there's no baby, so maybe we will, maybe we will not.

But in the meantime, that is going to do it for this episode of JFD.

for our incredible production team throughout this season of Jets Class, a big thank you to Corey Palmer, Sam Candel, Jeff Goldman, our executive producer, as well as everybody else over at Oh my goodness, I just said Jets Class.

I couldn't have done it.

I c- I was gonna go through it.

I, it was gonna happen.

I c- I probably have to say dad brain for this one, right, Zach?

Like that I said I threw a Jets Class out there.

I was so close.

It's an episode of dad brain.

I don't think I've said Jets Class in forever.

Yeah.

Well, for Jets Final Drive, not Jets Class.

thank you guys so much for joining this season.
