Reports: Jets host Wilson in search for backup QB
Mike Florio and Chris Simms discuss Russell Wilson reportedly visiting the New York Jets and question if the veteran quarterback will once again land on an NFL roster.

Russell Wilson, whose name had not been mentioned at all during free agency, and it's not a coincidence, yesterday was the day that the compensatory draft pick stuff doesn't apply, and lo and behold, he has a workout with the Jets, and they're considering him making, making They're considering, excuse me, making him the backup to Geno Smith, which would be full circle because Geno was the backup to Russell Wilson- That's crazy.
Yeah when they were together in Seattle.
And it keeps Russell Wilson in New York, and- I told you that's all he wants it'd be amazing if it happens because there was no indication that anyone had any interest in Russell Wilson.
Yeah.
Well, they need a backup, that's, that's for sure.
I mean, I, I think they are risking it a little bit with their current situation.
It's one of the reasons I thought maybe they drafted Cade Klubnick because he is not a starting quarterback caliber type of draft pick, but he's played a lot of football to where you go, "Oh, okay, you know, they're, they're gonna let him be the backup," or maybe Brady Cook, right?
And let them fight it out, and Brady Cook played at the end of year last year.
But I, I understand them being interested in Russell Wilson.
I also think Russell Wilson's probably very interested in them, and I, I Th- this is to me one where I'd go, I would think the agent's been beating down the Jets going, "Ru- Russell w- wants to stay in New York.
Russell would love to be the backup for the Jets.
He wants to do that."
Everything I know, he's moving up here into the Connecticut area.
Right?
He's up here somewhere.
Maybe in my town.
There's been people that have been spotting him.
I think he's a, b- they've applied to a school up here.
So yeah, I don't think they, he wants to leave or his family, they wanna leave this area.
He wants to be in New York, and this is what I told you from the start.
this is what I always thought.
This is about a move to New York more than an, to me necessarily, always about playing football.
He wants to be here.
He wants to go to Knick games and be seen.
He wants to go out with Ciara and be seen.
They wanna be socialites.
That, that's what they wanna be.
And you know, I can understand them wanting to be the backup for the Jets, and they need him, too.
Give me the over-under on what the Jets would pay him on a one-year contract.

I think it's like, I mean it's, it's 5 million.
Four m- under 5 million.
I, I think it's like nothing.
It's, it's, it's- I was thinking five- Yeah I was thinking five with some phony baloney incentives- Yeah that make it sound better when it's time to leak it to the media.

Very specialized practice, I only have one client.
And it was good for Russell Wilson when he needed someone who could go out and drive a hard bargain because you're not worried about how your negotiating tactics as it relates to one client will impact your ability to get deals for your other clients.
So it was actually good for Wilson then.
But now that Wilson doesn't have anything, well, I gotta make a change to an agent who's plugged in and maybe he can pull in a favor and get me a job somewhere.
So that change happened several months ago.
That was surprising 'cause he'd been with Mark Rogers his entire career, and Rogers had done some great work for him.
But David Moolugetta apparently opening the door in New York where he can stick around.
He was at Yankee Stadium over the weekend playing for the Savannah Bananas.

I, I wonder if he doesn't become the backup for the Jets if he might just call it a day and again, be a socialite here in the New York City area.
He could always go back to the Steelers.
They may need a quarterback.
They did not use the UFA tender on him last year.
