He didn't get to uh to watch the final preseason game, and, you know, he might be better off for that because, uh, man, that was tough, wasn't it?
That was, uh, that was a tough one.
Unfortunately, I wasn't around to watch last week's preseason game, and I'm pretty upset that I missed that one, cause that one was a lot more fun than this one, but I appreciate everybody joining me.
Uh, we're gonna talk Jets preseason takeaways, roster cuts, a lot of injuries tonight, like, wasn't just me, way too many, too many injuries for both sides.

Housekeeping out of the way .
Let's get to a couple of these comments and I'll give some of my takeaways.
Uh, we got Brandon and Chad first, and this is a good book, this is a good place to start.
He said the biggest question far and away was if Cade Klubnick could establish himself as a viable QB2.
All I can say is that I don't think any other teams, uh, I don't think any other teams that would take him for that role.
Yeah.
So, Klubnick is an interesting discussion, right?
So, I think that he finished strong.
I thought that that last drive.
Was easily his most impressive drive.
I don't want to say the entire preseason, but certainly his most impressive drive of the game.
One takeaway that I had after watching that drive and after watching him at Clemson in this preseason is, I think my favorite trait that Klubnick possesses, and I tweeted about this, he has very impressive accuracy to the boundary for a young quarterback.
Uh, normally you see quarterbacks struggling to throw to the outside, it's just.
It's a very difficult pass to make, especially at the NFL level.
Klubnik, that seems to be a strength of his.
Now, where he struggles is with decision making over the middle of the field, and I think we saw that rear its ugly head in this one, that interception was.
A tough one, right?
Like I know Jelani Woods is 6'7, I think that was Woods was the target, uh, but I, I, I get what he was going for with that pass, trying to layer it over the defender, but that was never getting through.
And he also had Junior Bergen wide open in the flats, and, you know, up until that last drive, I thought it was a pretty bad half for Klubnick, honestly, if we're, if we're gonna be completely honest here, uh, you know, like people will say he didn't have a lot of help with the backup offensive line, and that's absolutely true, but.
You know, there were a number of plays that I can remember.
He had a bubble pass to Bergen that was, that was high and and fell incomplete, could have been caught, but it was, it was not a good ball.
That swing pass to Trinum, which, by the way, hopefully Chip Trinum and Dominic Richardson, both of the Jets practice squad candidate running backs suffered potentially serious injuries in this one, so I hope that they're doing all right.
I hope that they're OK. Um, Trina, I know was was transported to the hospital, but I think he's alert, he is movement in all his extremities, which is nice .
Richardson might have suffered a Some sort of an elbow or arm injury that didn't look good, but that that swing pass out the Trium that went for like 22, I mean that barely got there .
That was not a good throw from Klubnick.
I, I thought he looked not super confident in his arm to start this game, but he settled in on that last drive and, and I think that was encouraging.
Now, where do I stand on Klubnick overall?
I don't think I have as much confidence in him as QB2 as the Jets, and like I, I, people will say like.
Uh, oh man, like I've, I've seen this take on Twitter where it's like, oh, if Geno gets hurt anyway, the season's over.
I, I hate that take, and every year we get this when the Jets skimp out a backup quarterback.
We got, we got the same take when they had Zach Wilson going into the year as QB2, when Rodgers, you know, the year Rodgers tore his Achilles, and obviously, yeah , if Rodgers tears his Achilles week one like that happened that year.
It probably wasn't gonna be much the Jets could do, but the idea isn't, oh yeah, if Geno gets hurt week one, the season's over.
Obviously, yeah, you're probably not in a good spot if that happens.
What if Geno misses 3 or 4 games, right?
You want a backup quarterback to come in and competently keep you afloat and maybe steal a win or 2.
And if you're Aaron Glenn, and you're trying to save your job, those 1 or 2 games, those 3 games that Geno might miss, like that's super important.
Those could be the difference between you keeping your job and you losing it.
So, I, I hate to take where it's like, oh, if Geno gets hurt, they're screwed anyway.
That's, that's definitely not true.
Uh, I think the Jets, when they traded up to draft Club Nick back in April.
They earmarked him to be their QB2 at that moment.
Like they drafted him, not only with the thought that he was going to be their backup quarterback of the future, but they, they thought he was gonna be their backup quarterback this year.
And not only do they think that, they were, they were pretty confident in that.
And, and you look, he hasn't done anything to necessarily lose the job.
He has not been an abject disaster by any means.
He's had encouraging moments throughout the summer and.
I guess the best compliment you can give him for a, remember, this is a day 3 rookie quarterback that we're talking about.
Expectations should be tempered.
The best compliment you can give him is, he's looked like an NFL quarterback, like he, he hasn't come into camp and been like, oh man, like there's some guys, again, we've talked about this a lot, there's some guys you get in the camp and you immediately realize, oh, this guy can't play at this level, Christian Hackenberg , right?
There's many examples of it.
That's not been the case with Clubnick.
So, you know, there, there have been encouraging moments, and I don't think he's been bad in the preseason.
I think they've kind of rolled out the red carpet for him to be QB2.
They've kind of kept the kiddie gloves on a little bit, even for a lot of this game up until that last drive, he wasn't doing anything, like they weren't asking him to do anything.
There's a lot of dump offs , screen passes, like they were making life as easy as possible for him, which I get it.
If you're, you know, if that was the case and he's playing at the 3rd stringers, totally get it.
They're asking him to play a pretty important role on this Jets roster this year.
They seem to be confident that he could fill that role.
I'm less confident.
If Geno ends up missing a couple of games, we'll see if their confidence pays off, you know, part of it feels like they kind of are trying to prove themselves right.
But look, part of it is also we're not in the building, and clearly there's something about Klubnick that they like, that they see, and, and they, they believe that he is ready for that QB2 role.
I, I think Kate Klubnick's gonna have a long NFL career.
I, I think he's going to be a long-term backup in this league.
I just don't know if he's ready to have that role as a rookie, but that's kind of where I stand on Klubnick.
I, I thought there were some encouraging moments from this game.
Again, the outside, uh, boundary throws are the most impressive thing that I think he puts on tape.
He still looks unsure of himself at times, he's still kind of got happy feet.
He's a good athlete, so the, the evasiveness is nice and the playmaking is nice, and on that last drive , it's unfortunate that he had that, uh, that play called back because of the Xavier Newman ineligible man downfield, which that, that's, it's partially on Newman, but that's also one of those plays where it's like.
Man, if a play is going on for 12 seconds or whatever that was, a lot of times you're gonna have a lineman downfield, like that just kind of happens.
But that's Clubnick made a great play, scrambled to his left, evaded some pressure, scrambled back to his right, kept his eyes downfield, found the receiver open, just gets called back.
But I, I, I thought that was a good closing drive for Klubnick, and a good way to end an uneven but encouraging at times preseason for Cade Klubnick.
Um, couple more comments we'll get to on the quarterbacks before I talk about the kicker situation, cause that's another one that I have some takeaways.
Uh, yeah, boy and chat said Bailey Zappy sucks so bad and we need offensive line depth big time.
Yeah, you know, actually, let's, let's transition to that cause we don't need, we don't need to harp on Bailey Zappy.
Yeah, Zappy is bad.
Zappy is, I was surprised honestly that the Jets didn't give Brady Cook more, this is what we're talking about here, but I was surprised they didn't give Brady Cook more run in this game cause I, I thought Cook has outplayed Zappy this summer and If you want to talk about a quarterback having no chance, Zay really like this game, the 3rd string and 2nd string offensive line, whoever was out there with Zappy, that was as bad as any Jets offensive line unit has looked this year.
Like I thought the offensive line that Klubnik had was not good.
It was better than what that Zappy was working with, uh, but really bad summer for Zappy.
Again, it remains a, a marvel of football lore, whatever you want to say that, uh, Bailey Zappy has started 989 NFL games, and he's won 4 of them.
Shout out Bill Belichick for getting that out of him.
Uh, but as far as offensive line depth, yeah, 100%.
And as Cooper unfortunately went down with what appears to be a potentially significant shoulder injury.
Obviously we'll have more after the game.
I'll, I'm trying to keep my eye for uh.
For Aaron Glenn quotes, I think he's speaking in the media after this one, so might have an update there.
I imagine it'll be like, yeah, he's going for MRI's and we won't have any word until whenever, but it seems like an injury that's probably going to put him on IR to start the year, and who knows how long he's out for, but that's unfortunate because Cooper, of course, had a really good first preseason game, and, you know, he took a step back in the 2nd game, but the Jets promoted him and he was working with the 3rd team O-line in the first game.
They promoted him and he was working with the 2nd team O-line in both the 2nd and the 3rd game, so.
You know, they, they, he's clearly someone that they thought highly of and obviously offensive line depth is not a position group that they were particularly strong at, uh, even prior to that injury.
So, it's not like Cooper was going to play a significant role this year, but he was going to have a spot on the 53 man roster.
So if he's hurt, which seems like he is, and it seems like something that could land him on the IR, that's gonna be a roster spot they gotta fill.
And the other backup interior offensive lineman that is probably at least a pencil in as a 53 guy right now, is is Xavier Newman.
And look, man, Xavier Newman, I, I think, I think he's an NFL caliber backup guard, a low-end NFL caliber backup guard, but I think he could do it.
He's not a center.
He's just not a center, and the Jets have been asking him to play center, and it's not, it's not what he does, right?
He, he, he had, remember, Jets fans remember what, 2 years ago now, whatever it was that Giants game where he ended up having to step in and was playing center for literally the first time in his career.
By the way, shout out to Xavier Newman, cause after that game he did an interview with me with the Jet press and uh was very gracious with the time, was a good dude, and it was during the season.
It's it's rare to get those player interviews during the season.
Um, so shout out him for being a good dude for that, but.
He's not a center, right?
He just, he doesn't, he, he can't play the position.
It's not a position that he's, he's, it's not his natural position, and we've seen that a lot throughout the summer.
He's had quite a few errant snaps, and we saw that in this one too, and, and, you know, I think there were 3 or 4 times that I could count that that were bad snaps.
One of them was dropped by uh by Klubnick, and he ended up scrambling for it.
That was on the opening drive that led to the, uh, the Chip Trinum rushing touchdown, uh, but Newman's just not a center.
So the Jets need to scavenge the waiver wire, even more so now after the Annez Cooper injury.
Uh, there are some names that have been thrown out there that I'm keeping an eye on, like some names that I've mentioned, Cedric Van Pen Granger in Buffalo, who's kind of fallen out of favor there.
They, they went out and brought in Lloyd Cushnberry, and they brought back Connor McGovern.
So he's a guy that could be on the move, uh, someone like Andre James in Tennessee.
First of all, hey, if you wanna go steal that Tennessee Titans playbook.
I don't know, something to consider.
Uh, James is, look, he's not a good center, but he has 61 career starts.
Uh, honestly, one of the, one of those guys that started 61 games in Vegas, and you look back and you're like, how did this guy start 61 games, and I think every Raiders fan will tell you that, but.
I think that's somebody that's a veteran that I'm not even sure.
I don't think he'd be subject to waivers, that maybe that's a guy that you can get, you could sign.
He's currently 3rd string center in in Tennessee.
Uh, Luke Whipper, I know Domsey on Twitter has mentioned him as an option.
He's a former 6th round pick of the Browns, started 5 games last year.
Athletic guy, not very big, cause he kind of gets pushed around a bit, but.
Has some starting experience, still young enough that there's some developmental upside, and again, he could play center, which the Jets just don't have, unless they're keeping Liam Fornadell on the 53, which I don't think they're gonna do that.
Uh, they don't have anybody on the 53 that actually can play center outside of Tittman, who, you know, I know people will say that ideally you're not moving Tittman back over to center if Josh Myers gets hurt, cause then you're replacing two different offensive line positions, and now even more so with the Ynez Cooper injury.
Is Newman playing guard now?
Like, I, I think Newman would probably start at center if Myers went down, and they just, I just don't think you could do that.
Uh, so there's a few names out there, like Willie Lampkin is a fun one.
I don't know if anyone has been following Eagles training camp.
He's probably their third string center, but he is might be the shortest offensive lineman in the NFL.
He's 5'11, maybe 300 pounds, he's he's very small, but I think he is a PFF's second highest graded center in the preseason.
He's had a really good camp, so .
Maybe somebody that, uh, you know, that they could pick up if he, if he hits the waiver wire, and we know the Eagles are a great team when it comes to developing offensive linemen.
If you're, if you're gonna pick up an offensive lineman for any team, Philly is a good place to look.
But either way, they definitely got to do some work there, uh, 100% gotta, gotta add some offensive line depth, especially with the Cooper injury.
Honestly, they might add two names, like, I think Newman probably makes the initial 53, but, and maybe he sticks around as guard center depth, but.
You know, I, I can't really, you know, I, I don't think any of the other guys in the team, Marquis Hayes, Cole Laval, who they even tried to center in this one.
I don't think that those guys make the 53.
I, I think they probably look look for external options, which is probably the best way to do it.
Uh, let's go back, we got some comments here.

I don't, I don't know if he was even around for the game.
Um, Brian said 70-year-old Josh Johnson sling it for the Bengals.
Look, Josh Johnson might be the best 2nd best quarterback on the Jets roster if he was there right now.
He is the ageless wonder and.
I will never forget the game where he came in and threw 300 something passing yards right off the bench for the Jets .
Uh, shout out Josh Johnson, who has had multiple stints with the Jets.
Uh, let's go back.
Jay Mark said we need a kicker ASAP.
That they do, Jay Mark, that they do.
Uh, a couple of comments about this too.
I just want to make sure I get, get to some of those.
Uh, Gabriel said we need a kicker, still shocked that Sanders was that short and 54 yards.
Yeah, uh, Jay Mark said Sanders can't even be in the conversation 100%.
Aaron Glenn is a terrorist.
What are you doing, man?
Come on.
Why is that?

Uh, all reports from training camp, so we had two good kickers.
What the hell happened?
Um.
Well, they started off all right.
It was a good, a decent start to camp for Sanders and York, but they did not, uh, they did not finish strong, and the day before they cut York, which by the way, Aaron Glenn just asked about the kicker situation, said, I don't like, uh, I didn't like that we missed these field goals, but we're not gonna panic.
So they bring in someone new if they have to, but Jason Sanders has been good for them.
Are you sure about that?
Are you sure about that?
Also, uh, Harbaugh announced to the Giants that Dominic Zaata will be the Giants' week one kicker, so.
Giants had a kicker battle of their own.
It was Dominic Zvata, an undrafted rookie out of Michigan, and Ben Sauls, uh, lefty kicker.
I would imagine Sauls could be a guy that the Jets could keep an eye on.
There's some kickers out there, right?
So I, you know, based on those Glenn comments, we'll see.
Obviously, look, he's not gonna come out after the game and say, yeah, Jason Sanders blows and we're cutting him.
So I certainly think that's a position they could absolutely address before week one.
I, I, I.
At this point, it would be a pretty tough look if they went into week one, but Sanders is their kicker after he just missed an extra point, was well short on a 54 yarder as as someone mentioned in chat, and Sanders is a guy who, this dude had a huge leg during his days in Miami, like he was, that was his thing coming out of college and early in his career, like the guy has never been short of of kick power.
Unfortunately had the hip injury last year, and.
Some guys just lose it, you know, he was awful in in OTAs with the Giants, that's why they cut him.
So, I, you know, this isn't exactly uh shocking that he's, you know, doesn't have it anymore, but, you know, if he can't make it from 54, part of the reason that people said the Jets moved on from Nick Folk was cause he couldn't, you know , there was a range that you had with him, you know, remember he did make like a 56 yarder last year, but that was like, it was at the uh the Falcons game, right?
That was like windy and it was, it was kind of like raining and stuff, but that was like, it's not a pretty kick.
And in an age where guys are regularly kicking from 65+, it's a weapon to have someone like that, and, you know, right now I don't think the uh the Jets have someone that could even reliably reliably make it from 40+, right?
Let alone 50 plus or 60 plus.
Uh, Aaron Glenn was also asked if Kay Klubnick won QB2.
He said, quote, we're gonna sit back and evaluate that.
He has.
I, I, or I should say that I think he's gonna be the QB2.
Whether he's earned it or not, that's up to for you to decide, but I, I do think that Kate Klubnick will be the Jets' backup quarterback to start week one.
It's possible they could bring in a veteran, but I do think it'll be Klubnick.
But yeah, as far as the kicker situation goes, you know, I'd take, I'd keep an eye on the Colts battle between Spencer Schrader, Jets legend, and Blake Groupie.
Uh, Schrader has missed one kick in his NFL career, but he's a weird guy to talk about because it's rare to say this about a kicker, but.
He's been kind of injury prone, like he he he uh got hurt after the the Chiefs picked him up, or this is the guy that the Jets had.
This was, it feels like every other year, the Jets have either they have a, you know, they have, they have a great kicking situation, and then the next year it's just a.
Complete disaster.
Like they had the great year of Zerlein, and then the disaster year of Zerlein where they cycled through a bunch of guys, and that year they had Schrader for one game, and for those who forget, Schrader was on their practice squad, and this was during the time when the entire Jets regime was completely checked out, and so they, uh, they didn't protect him on the practice squad, and the Chiefs picked him up off the practice squad, and then he went to Kansas City and that was it.
And then the Jets cycled through.
Probably 4 of the kickers for the rest of the year.
Uh, but Trader ended up hurting his hamstring that year with the Chiefs, and then last year with the Colts tore his ACL and MCL.
So he's working his way back from injury, but he's had a good camp.
Blake Groupie was not particularly great with the Saints, but he went like 11 to 11 or 12 of 12 with the Colts last year.
So, one of those guys getting cut.
I, I'd keep an eye on that situation.
The Saints have , I think, 3 kickers on their team right now.
They just signed Daniel Carlson, um.
So they might be a team to keep an eye on, and of course the Giants, Ben Sauls, but either way, it it feels like the Jets, the Jets need to bring in someone else because.
Sanders is not it, and I think this game kind of Sanders also had a touchback, which that's gonna get very overlooked, but like, it's not, you know, with the current kickoff rules, you're not trying to kick touchbacks.
So he, he did, he had like 3 opportunities to do anything right today, and he, he messed up all of them.
What else we got?
David Simpson, a lot of drops and good lord, our backup line is brutal.
Yeah, it's it's the last game of the preseason.
It's gonna happen.
Oh, as I nail my mic.
Uh, I was disappointed to see that Malik McLean dropped cause I thought he was someone that could push Arian Smith for a spot, and we'll talk.
I, I don't know if anyone's asking about Aaron Smith.
I'll get, I'll get the more of these comments here, um.
Aaron Smith this preseason, man, I look, I know it's easy to dogpile on the guy, cause, you know, a lot of people, myself included, were very down on the pick when when that pick was made last year, and he didn't exactly do anything as a rookie to uh change that belief, but the man caught his first pass of the preseason on a 5 yard, like little drag route on a 3rd and 19 dump off.
That was his only catch in the entire preseason.
Prior to that point, he had been targeted once, and that one target led to a drop that resulted in a pick 6.
He also had two penalties on special teams this preseason, a block in the back on a punt return and a holding penalty on a punt return, which happened tonight.
You know, I, I don't know how you justify giving that guy a 53 on roster spot.
You know, we'll see how much the draft, the draft status and draft pedigree matters to Darren Moujie, cause there's a few guys in that 2025 class, which is not looking particularly great right now.
It's day three looks like a disaster.
Uh, but there's a few guys on that, on that day three of that draft class that really have not done anything to deserve roster spots, and we'll see.
Aaron Smith is really the, the big litmus test.
We'll see if Muji is willing to cut ties.
Um, yeah, I don't know if there's anybody on the team that really pushed him.
I, I don't think McLean gets a 53 spot.
I think he's probably a practice squad guy, and there's no one else that really, you know, it stands out to me.
Tim Patrick is seemingly solidified a spot cause he was not playing in this game, so it, it sounds like he's, he's earned a spot, uh.
But yeah, I, I, you know, maybe, maybe that's a position where they also look elsewhere and looked at a waiver wire, or maybe they just carry 5 wide receivers, cause they're going for tight ends, most likely with Jelani Woods, who played in this game, but didn't play a lot, and I thought that was notable.
I, I think Woods is pretty safe on the 53 at this stage.
Um, yeah, we'll, we'll see.
I, I, Aaron Smith certainly didn't do anything to earn a roster spot.
Uh, let's get some more of these comments.
Uh, as Brian said, I'm sure the Jets will look at several new faces at both positions after the weekend.
Yeah, I, I would expect to see the Jets claimed 3 guys off waivers last year.
I'd expect to see around the same this year, maybe even more now because of that in Nez Cooper injury.
Like I think you could see multiple interior offensive linemen.
I think you'd see a linebacker, especially if Michael Walker is, is hurt.
He's still dealing with that calf injury and sounds like, you know, I think he might be a candidate for short-term IR to start the year, so they might only have 4 off-ball linebackers to make the team, could add a guy there, uh.
Safety could be a position that they target.
VJ Payne could be a candidate for short term IR and I don't think Malachi Moore has, you know, solidified a spot on the 53.
I think he makes it by default right now, but I certainly don't think he's like secure as definitely being on the week one roster, um.
QB is probably not something they address via the waiver wire.
If they do add a quarterback, it's either a practice squad guy or they're making a move for like an Andy Dalton type or an Aidan O'Connell type, which I would not be opposed to.
I just don't feel like it's trending in that direction, but they will, they will be active on the waiver wire.
You can, you can, uh, almost guarantee, guarantee that they have the number 2 overall slot in that, that waiver wire order, so they will, they will have their, their share of targets.
Um, Marce McCreary Ball first two drives, McCreary Ball is a fun player, man.
You know, this this game doesn't change my thoughts on him.
He is a super fun, ridiculously jacked backup linebacker who is not someone you really want to be seeing a lot playing linebacker, but I think he's a fun special teamer and a fun third preseason game, like guy, like I, I think that's this is this is the type of environment where he shines in, and you can see why the staff loves him.
He plays with reckless abandon and throws his body around as a fun player.
Tyson Keller asked thoughts on Keller 53 man or a practice squad spot, possibly, possibly relative here.
Uh, I, I thought Keller and Chase Wilson.
I thought actually I gave, I gave both of them a shout out on, uh, on Twitter.
I thought both of the, the young UDFA linebackers on the Jets 90 man roster played well this summer, and I think both of them.
Uh, made cases for practice squad spots, and I, I would expect him to keep at least one, if not both of them around.
I think Keller probably has the edge over Wilson.
He was playing above him earlier in the preseason.
Uh, but I thought both of them had, had played decently well.
Uh, do I have preliminary PFF grades?
Cause I think, uh, I do.
Chase Wilson actually the highest graded Jets defensive player by PFF right now.
So shout out Chase Wilson, 81.3.
Uh, Keller had a few tackles at a run stop.
Yeah, I, I thought both of them did enough to probably warrant practice squad consideration, uh, and if that is a relative.
That's cool, man.
That's, that's, that's awesome you got someone, you know, a relative playing in the NFL like that's, that's super cool.
Don't take that for granted.
Um, what else we got?
What about Lynn?
Nate Lynn, you know, I honestly, I, I, I kind of hoped he popped a little bit more in this one.
He did have a sack, like I, we're spoiled with, we were spoiled with the Nate Lynn debut last week.
I don't think he makes the 53 guys.
Like I, I know Jets fans are probably gonna riot if and when he gets cut.
I really hope they bring him back in the practice squad, but it's just you're, you're really fighting an uphill battle when you get into camp last week, right?
He's been in camp for a week and a half or whatever, and not only got in the Jets camp, like he wasn't on an NFL roster.
He was cut by the Titans back in April, I think it was.
So like this guy was not in camp with any NFL team, which is beyond me, like that's shocking to me.
I, I don't understand it.
Uh, you know, given how he's played in the preseason over the last 2 years and how great he's looked with the Lions over the last 2 summers, the fact that this guy couldn't sniff an NFL roster, even a 90-man roster is just wild to me, uh.
But I, I don't think he's someone that's gonna make the 53.
Like I, I think he's probably a priority practice squad guy, you'd assume.
Again, Lions fans thought this about Lynn last year.
Every Lions fan thought Lynn was making the 53 last year.
Like, what the Jets just got in that first preseason game from Nate Lynn, the Lions got 3 straight preseason games from that of that from Nate Lynn last year, and they had got him, you know, impressing in the training camp the year before that.
And he still didn't make the team.
And not only did not make the team, he didn't make the practice squad last year, so I, I don't know what's up with that.
I would like to think he's back in the practice squad.
53 feels like a long shot, like, uh, I don't wanna say a long shot, but it feels like a stretch.
I, I, I did not have him on the initial 53 that we did on uh on Wednesday.
I had Braid McGregor making it.
I, I think McGregor, if McGregor makes it, he's probably player 53 on the 53, or like a placeholder to see if they, they add somebody else.
Uh, they are gonna carry 5 interior guys with, uh, you know, Sweat, who, if you have any positive takeaways from this one, DeAndre Sweat looked really good in his limited limited snaps out there, and by the way, against the starting Giants interior offensive line.
That was John Michael Schmidtz, who, by the way, John, that's another guy, John Michael Schmidtz.
Well, I don't wanna dog pile on him.
I don't know how he's been a starting center for as long as he has in this league, because every time I see him, he's getting his ass whooped, and he, he was getting his ass whooped in this one by DeAndre Sweat, who he, he was going against John Runyon, John Michael Schmidtz, and, and Francis Mauinoa, the brother, of course, Kiko Mainoa, uh, that was the starting interior Giants off the line, and Sweat was, was having his way with them, so.
That was encouraging, an encouraging takeaway, but the Jets will carry 5 interior defensive linemen.
They could carry 4 or 5 outside linebackers, 4 or 5 edges.
Uh, we'll see what happens.
Joseph Osai did leave this game with a foot injury, so we'll have to see if there's any update on that.
I don't think Aaron Glenn has been asked about it.
I haven't seen any.
Updates I'm not sure, but I, he was walking around on the sideline, uh, in that second half and looked fine.
He, he didn't seem to be walking around with any noticeable discomfort, so I, I do think Osa is probably gonna be OK. Um, what else we got?
Uh, Aaron Glenarris guy, if we lose week one from a missed kick, RIP my drywall.
Yeah man, it's uh it'll be Kari Ved Kari Vedwk flashbacks, for those who remember, was that 2019, I think, Week 1 2019, Kari Vedvik, who they that Kari Vedwick was a guy they picked up, I think, after the preseason, if I remember correctly, and he comes in and he he misses a field goal and an extra point, I think, and they lose to the Bills by like 1 or two or whatever it was, uh.
Won't be good, won't be pretty.
And we just gotta hope that this, we gotta, we gotta put our trust in this Jets special team staff after what they did last year and just hope that they stumble into a kicker, but it's, it's not looking good right now.
Uh, Jay Mark said, I don't really believe Glenn last year he said a thing and ended up doing the exact opposite.
I don't know what that was in reference to possibly Klubnick, or possibly probably Sanders, probably the kicker situation.
Yeah, I, I know Glenn said like, hey, yeah, Sanders is, you know, we, we like Sanders, he's, he's kicked well for us.
I, I can't imagine they're gonna feel confident with him going into week one.
I, I think that's a position they will very much look to potentially uh address.
As Brian said, Saints the 3 kickers in the roster, surely one of them will be available 100%.
Tanner Brown is on that team.
I know he was kicking really well in the UFL, so maybe they, they go UFL hunting, right?
Maybe Anthony Beck puts in a good word for them, and uh I don't know, I don't think he was on Beck's team.
I don't think he was on Orlando, but uh he was killing it in the UFL.
So, you know, maybe I mean look, that's where the Lions found Jake Bates, so.
Never know, man.
Spring league kickers, maybe that's maybe that's the way to go, and then they have Charlie Smith, who was a uh international pathway player for uh for for New Orleans, I believe he's from Northern Ireland, I think.
I had somebody on Twitter on uh on TikTok mentioning him, and in his like profile photo he had a or in his profile name, whatever you call it, he had the Irish flag, and I was like .
I see why, I see why you're shouting him out.
Uh, but yeah, they, they might make a move there.
Daniel Carlson, of course, was the big veteran edition New Orleans just made, and I don't know who's winning that battle.
I actually have not kept up to date, but they got 3 kickers in there.
Uh, already talked about Lynn, let's see, let's see, we got a.
Got some, some pessimism here.
Jets suck.

Uh, I don't know, I don't know how to say his name, Man GM, I don't know, man.
Jets suck, defense was shredded by the run and they couldn't beat OBJ, uh, who is that number 48 tight end that was beaten 3 times that resulted in sacks, please get a kicker.
So funny, I actually messaged Mike during the game, that that tight end was Connor Holstein, by the way, undrafted rookie out of Marist, which Marist College is the, uh, of course, the alma mater of of one Mr. Mike Luciano of the Jet Press podcast, and I, I, I messaged Mike during the game, cause I don't think he was watching.
I think he was at a, I think he was at the Villanova football game.
We'll talk about it on Wednesday, uh, and I was like, buddy, I hate to break it to you, you're, you're Maris guy.
It's not looking good, man, he's getting his ass kicked out there.
Uh, there was a couple of plays like his first play in the game, uh, he whiffed on a block and then he also whipped on another one, and it was.
It's not good, uh, but like, man, he's undrafted rookie at embarras, who's the, the final tight end on the Jets roster.
What do you, what do you expect?
Uh, they need a kicker, yeah, OBJ was beat them a couple of times.
Definitely a less fun game than than last week.
Uh, I already talked about Lynn, Lonely said we need to trade for JPJ Jackson Powers Johnson from the uh the Raiders.
I mean, yeah, I don't I don't know what it would take to get him, but I know there's been some rumors that he could be on the trade block.
That'd be fantastic, and honestly, he's someone that I, I would be fine with, you know, pushing Meyers, obviously you wouldn't get that, like if you're trading from him at this stage, he's not starting, but certainly would be great offensive line depth and better than anything that they have in the interior.
Uh, Brian Glick said 10 start.
It would be nice, man.
I hope so.
I hope so.
Lonely said we need to get a QB in the waiver wire, Joe Milton, it sounds like Milton is probably QB2 in Dallas.
I don't think he's going anywhere.
Sam Howell would be the guy that might be on the move in Dallas, so that's something to keep an eye on maybe, and Kyle McCord, where even is McCord now, former Syracuse guy, he bounced around.
Was he with Philly?
He's with Green Bay now.
Uh, he was drafted by Philly.
Didn't stick there.
I actually have no idea how good how how Kyle McCord's played this summer at all, but.
He's a name, he's a guy.
Uh, then DeAndre thoughts, yeah, like I, like I said, I, it was great to have DeAndre Sweat back.
He looked really good , uh, against the starting Giants interior offensive line, and, um, you know, I think he's gonna play a huge, a huge role, no pun intended, right, a huge role physically and, uh, and metaphorically in this Jets defense this year.
Uh, what other notes that I have?
Let's see, I took some notes throughout the game.
Let's see if I have anything else before , uh, before we, before we sign off here.
Uh, of course, comments, all that stuff.
I'll take some more if anybody's gotten them before, uh, before I sign off here.
Uh, let's see, let's see.
You know what we could do actually, you know, it'll be fun.
Let's go through this Jets 53 man roster one more time really quick and see if I have any changes to make from last week, cause I did have these graphics pulled up in case I wanted to use them.
So let's see, quarterback, we'll go one by one here.
Quarterback, I don't think anything changes here.
I think Cook is, I mean, I, I, I think they probably at this stage might add another practice squad quarterback, cause Cook barely played in these last two preseason games, which is usually not a good sign you're gonna stick around, and I don't think Zappy earned it, so.
Uh, but I, I, I don't think they add a veteran.
I think they roll with Geno and Klubnik and just hope for the best.
Uh, running back, nothing changes here.
I think Isaiah Davis is ready for week one.
That's what it sounds like, and unfortunately, Trina and Richardson both suffered serious injuries in this game, so they're probably gonna have to look elsewhere for their practice squad running back.
I thought Trina had showed some good stuff earlier in this game before his injury.
Wide receiver Man, I, you know, I, I still have Arian Smith, Pennsylvania's wide receiver 6, but.
Boy, has he done nothing to inspire confidence that he deserves to be on this roster, cause man, how do you even trust him on special teams?
Like that's the thing.
If if Chris Banjo comes out and says like, Aaron, I'm, I'm not playing Aaron Smith on special teams.
What do you do then, right?
Cause, you know, he has 2 penalties this summer, and he certainly didn't, he didn't make any plays to Gunner.
I don't even somebody actually pointed this out for me.
I don't remember him even playing Gunner for the Jets.
He might have been playing Gunner at points this summer, I don't remember it.
And if he was, he didn't make any plays.
All I know is on 22 different punt returns, he had a penalty.
So I, I don't even know how that's somebody you trust on special teams, and if he's not playing special teams, why is he on the roster, right?
So, but I, I, I just don't think anyone else here even pushed him for a spot, uh.
Camper got hurt in this game.
Bergen was shaken up at a point.
Pritchett didn't play again cause he, he missed the last two games cause he's been hurt.
Uh, a lot of practice squad, bottom of the roster guys banged up right now, uh, which tight end is the case as well.
Chase Curtis also hurt, he didn't play in this game, but I, I think they carry 4 guys here.
I, I think this is pretty set.
Beck didn't play in this game.
I don't think, someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I don't recall seeing Andrew Beck at all, which I don't think he's currently dealing with an injury, so that would usually be a sign that he might be making the team.
So maybe you could pencil in Beck for making the team here.
Uh, either way, he's gonna be a guy that can keep around regardless of whether he's on the initial 53.
He's a veteran, so he's not subject to waivers, so they can just.
You know, they could, they could cut him and then later bring him back into 53, they could have him on the practice squad, bring him up to the active roster.
I think he'll be kept around in some capacity, whether it's on the initial 53 or not, to be determined.
Uh, offensive line, as I take my first sip of water of the, of the stream.
Hold on.
Um, obviously this changes following thenez Cooper injury, cause I, I think that's probably an injury, like, obviously we don't know what it is, but it's, it, it seems like it's a serious enough one that it's, it's, I don't think he's ready for week one, so he probably starts the year on IR which means you have an extra roster spot here, and, you know, I, I think both Newman and Cooper.
Our players that, uh, or I, I should say, Newman is somebody that they could look to replace and obviously they're gonna have to fill Cooper's roster spot.
So I could see two new names potentially to this group, uh, as, as far as any of the other guys making it.
Laval maybe he's got a shot, right?
Cause Laval has been playing with the 2nd team O-line over uh of these bottom 6 guys here, Laval is the only guy who was playing with the 2nd team O-line for the uh the entire summer, so.
Maybe makes it.
Landon Young's got experience, but he's probably a practice squad guy.
He's just a, he's a tackle, and I think Mitchell and Okorafor both make the team.
Hayes, he was the 2nd team O-line, uh, 2nd team right guard before Cooper took over for that role, so maybe he's got a shot.
He actually, funnily enough, I believe he made the initial 53 last year.
People probably forget that, but Marquis Hayes was on the Jets' initial 53 man roster last year.
It's just an indication of how little the initial 53 actually means, cause I don't think he played in the game last year.
Uh, Liam Fornadell is the actual, the only actual backup center on the roster, but I don't seem to, to think too highly of him.
I, I, maybe he's a practice squad guy.
Um, interior D line , pretty much set in stone here.
Good to have sweat back.
Onada had a disappointing preseason, but played like 24 snaps, probably nothing to be concerned about there.
Phillips, Briggs, Jackson round out the group.
I honestly thought Darryl Jackson, after all the hype that he got in training camp, I thought he had a pretty disappointing preseason, uh, didn't really make a lot of plays, was kind of getting bullied a bit.
He's one of those guys that he's like 6'5, so it's really tough, like for him to win the leverage battle, and I thought there were some places where he was very, like, he was definitely getting undercut or whatever you wanna say by uh by offensive linemen, where he was getting uh just, you know, he couldn't, he couldn't get down low enough, and uh I think that was that that was hurting him.
That's gonna be something that Carl Dunbar and the staff probably has to work on.
Um, I don't think he's probably gonna play a significant role early on, he's probably a healthy scratch week one, would be my guess.
But uh we'll see, I encouraged training camp, so that's something.
Um, Edge, yeah, again, this one.
You know, Jets fans won't like this.
I had McGregor over Lynn making the 53 on the uh the initial 53.
Both McGregor and Lynn, by the way , were out there on, I think the final play of the uh of the for the of the defense for that in that preseason.
So, they were playing very late into that game, which is usually not a good sign.
So there's a chance both of those guys don't make the team.
Again, I would just be very surprised if Lynn makes it.
He just got in the camp super late.
But, you know, I, I'd love it.
I'd love it if he did.
He's certainly a guy who's earned a shot on a 53 man roster, given what he's done over the last 2-3 summers, uh, and McGregor just, McGregor is a classic fringe roster guy.
I, I, I think he's somebody that can impress in, you know, preseason action, but he's, he's just not, he's not an NFL caliber edge rusher, and I think we've, we've seen enough of him to this point to know that.
Uh, linebacker, definitely a broom that I think they could add to.
Jaden Keller and Chase Wilson, I, I gave them a shout out earlier.
I think they both could stick around in the practice squad, uh.
Michael Walker, I think is a candidate for short-term IR.
He's dealing with a calf injury.
McCrary Ball and Maui Noah, I think were were fun players to watch tonight.
I think they both had their moments.
Both of those guys should be locked for 53, but I think they might need to add another guy to this room, especially if Walker is on the short-term IR.
Uh, corner, man, it sucks that Maribama got hurt in that first game, huh.
I would have loved to see Bamba play in these last two preseason games.
I don't think, like, just like a Nate Lynn situation, I don't think there was much he could have done to earn a 53 spot.
It's just, you already have 6 corners they're probably making the team.
And like he's he's a guy who's 25 years old, I think already, wasn't even a starter at BYU, like never was a full-time starter in corner in his college career.
He's only been playing the position for like 3-ish years, and he's already 25, turns 26 this year.
So it's a tough guy to give a 53 man roster spot to right out the gate, but I, I'd certainly love to keep him out of the practice squad.
I don't know what the status is of his knee injury that he suffered in, I believe it was a knee injury, they suffered in that first game, uh, but if he's healthy, I'm sure he'll be on the practice squad.
If not, he's probably an IR guy.
Uh, Trey Brown got banged up in this one, thought he had a good summer, but.
He got hurt.
Jordan Clark was uh somebody who I thought also had a good summer and was sneakily making a 53 man roster case.
I, I think he's probably a practice squad guy, but deserves a shout out for a uh an encouraging summer.
And then uh Keenan Garber led up that like 60 yard touchdown or whatever it was to Xavier Gibson, so he should get caught just for that, uh, just for the just for making the Xavier Gibson revenge game a real thing.
Uh, safety, I don't know what the status of VJ Payne is, that's the, the question mark here.
I, I put him on the initial 53 just because when Glenn first gave the update on his injury a few weeks ago, it was like 3 weeks ago, um, he said it was a bone bruise, and he called it a 3 to 4 week injury.
That would suggest to me that he's ready for week one.
Now, ready for week one doesn't mean he's playing.
I, I do think he'd be a healthy scratch if he was playing, but I have him on the 53 just for that reason, but he, he's definitely a short term IR candidate.
Jerrius Monroe, I thought had a good game.
I think he's probably brought back on the practice squad, maybe Dean Clark as well.
He played briefly last year, uh, undrafted rookie at Fresno State, I think last season.
And then, uh, of course the specialists.
McNamara is here, Hennessy is here.
Probably don't want Jason Sanders being your week one kicker, and I think we, uh, I think we, we kinda, we kinda already covered that.
Uh, last comment here from, uh, from Scracks in chat, said, uh, to be honest, even if Onamada continues to struggle, that's where you really appreciate Briggs.
Yeah, I said this on Twitter too.
I, I don't want Jawan Briggs to become an afterthought in this defensive line rotation after what he showed last year, and I don't think he will be, uh.
The Jets have kind of structured it where they have Phillips as the backup to Sweat.
So when Sweat was out in the preseason, they, they had Phillips kind of starting in that role.
I, I think it'll be Sweat and Onyamada as their two base starting interior defensive linemen with, uh, you know, the two edge guys being probably David Bailey and Joseph Osai, or maybe it's Kingsley Abari, maybe Anibari took that role.
He had a, he had a really strong summer, uh, but Briggs is kind of the backup, you know, interior rusher type, if you will.
I mean, Onamada is a good run stopper, so is Briggs too, but.
Uh, you know, more of like a traditional like 3I guy or, you know, 3 tech, I guess you will, Onamada and Briggs, uh, although they could both play that one tech role, uh, Sweat and Phillips are your like true nose tackles in this defense.
Uh, so yeah, if Onamada is struggling, you can give some more of those reps to Briggs, and I, I would like to see Briggs playing a lot this year anyway.
Uh, but yeah, I think that'll wrap it up.
I don't think I have any more uh Jets thoughts that I that I wrote down in my notes.
Too many injuries, man.
That was my, my biggest takeaway, or one of my bigger takeaways.
It, it sucks.
Like I, I hate, especially in the final preseason game, seeing all these injuries to guys who are just fighting for practice squad spots and.
For some of these guys, this might be their final game of professional football that they ever play, so.
You hate to see that, but anyway, We'll be back on Wednesday or uh probably Wednesday.
