Welcome back, this is Carter Brooks of the Hockey News.
Following the Winnipeg Jets' 5-1 home loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday evening.
Another day, another snoozer for the Jets.
This time, it was a four-goal third period outburst from the visitors that sealed Winnipeg's fate.
Falling to 20-24 and 7 on the year, the Jets are now eight points out of the final playoff spot.
With four teams in their way.
Cole Caufield got Winnipeg's only goal in the night, while JT Compher scored twice for the visitors.
The Jets didn't have much offensive flair, but managed to score their first five-on-five goal in the past five games.
They have now lost nine games in the month of January, with three more contests left to be played.
The game also concluded the three-game home stand and a grueling stretch of nine home games in the span of just 19 days.
It's a four-game road trip through New Jersey, Tampa Bay, Florida, and Dallas next, before Winnipeg returns home for a test with Montreal in the last game before the lengthy Olympic break.
