Machado's resurgence impacts SD's deadline outlook
Manny Machado is in the middle of a complete turnaround at the dish after an underwhelming start to the season. Eric Samulski peels back the curtain on the star's numbers ahead as the trade deadline looms.

Padres third baseman Manny Machado continued his strong stretch on Tuesday with going two for five with two solo home runs in a win over the Braves.
Machado has been really good in 35 games since June 9th, hitting 271 with 11 home runs, 21 runs scored, and 27 RBIs, with a 29 to one strikeout to walk ratio, making us forget a little of, much of that really cold start to the season, and he's turned that up a notch again in July.
He's hitting 281 with six home runs, 13 RBIs in 16 games in July, and that comes with a 50% hard hit rate, and he's just one of a few Padres who've really turned things on in July.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Is hitting 294 with three home runs, 14 runs scored, 11 RBIs, and six steals in July.
And Jackson Merrill is hitting 265 with five home runs, 12 RBIs, and two steals in the month.
That has placed the Padres firmly in wild card contention and made them an interesting team to watch at the trade deadline because they really lack starting pitching and they might be able to try to trade for starting pitching depth at the trade deadline.
But that also might mean trading away closer Mason Miller.
So the Padres will be a fascinating team to watch in the next couple of weeks.
