Matsushita shows his might for 200m IM title
Japan's Tomoyuki Matsushita made it to the wall 0.35 seconds ahead of American Carson Foster to capture the title in the men's 200m individual medley at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Overperforming time and time again.
Not sure he'll be able to win this with those two Japanese on either side of him, but you got the winner of the 400 IM in Matsushita, Kojima winning the 200 back.
Lot of hardware in this race from a lot of different swimmers.
Opening here in butterfly, Maurer up top in lane one.
Solid start for the United States, and it's Foster as well in the 200 fly, one of those silvers you talked about here at Pan Pacs along with the 400 IM for the 24-year-old American.
Now to backstroke, Foster trying to see if he can stay in the lead.
Maurer up in lane one with a nice front half of this 200 IM.
Yeah, it's hard to figure out the best stroke that Carson Foster has.
I mean, look at the butterfly.
He finishes silver medal.
I think his backstroke is best.
At least he's swimming better now in backstroke than any other stroke this summer.
That's my opinion.
And now you get to breaststroke, and Jason, this is a make or break stroke for so many swimmers.
Carson did a great job in the 400 IM, and he's got a good freestyle.
So if he can stay with Matsushita here and the rest of these swimmers, he's got a chance.

They're tightly packed together, three or four battling for the podium spots and the win.
And this is what hardware does for you, when you get into a situation like this, and it just seems like Matsushita has the advantage.

Silver for Foster, and Petric in there for a bronze.
1:56.02 for Matsushita as he delivers his second gold in an individual medley here in Irvine.
And another silver medal for Carson Foster.
That is his third silver here at the Pan Pacs.
And you know, I, I know he might dis- be a little disappointed in the place but, you know, he gave it all he could, man.
56.3, that's solid.
You said he was not in the top 10 in the world this year.
Now he is.
He slides into the Well, he slides into the fourth-fastest time in the world this year with that 1:56.3.
But Matsushita, he's ranked first in the world for a reason.
He's over there to the far right.

Foster did the job in the backstroke.
He was so solid.
28.9, outsplit everybody else on the backstroke.
But that breaststroke leg for Matsushita was just too much.
He outsplit Foster by half a second, and then just hung on to the win.
You know, free is, gotta have that real speed left, and Matsushita, he did on that.
