How will McVay proceed with Rams, Simpson?
Sean McVay didn't appear overly enthused about the Rams' selection of Ty Simpson. What does the future hold for the Rams?

Here is the sound generated by the Rams last night when the coach and the GM met with reporters following the selection of Ty Simpson.
I think it's been a process, you know, that started, started in the off-season, per se, especially when Sean and the coaching staff got involved.
And then that, that process goes all the way up until, even into, you know, the latter parts of last week.
And then that, at that point in time, like I've mentioned in here, the, the ship's gotta the sea's gonna shake the 13th pick.
You, you had to fall.
What made you all see What did you see in Ty that made you convinced that this was a guy that you guys wanted to draft and build towards the future?
Did you guys even talk to Coach DeBoer at all to kinda get to know more about Ty?
I think that, I think that at the end of the day, probably processing football, someone who can execute a passing offense, has mobility, so that's probably the macro.
There's a lot more variables that go into it, but that's the macro, I would say.
Sean McVay unable to conceal his true feelings.
He's a guy who understands, 99% of the time, everyone's watching, everyone's listening, everything you do.
There are some moments where it doesn't matter.

And he'll be asked about that- I think, I assume, I hope, somebody who covers the Rams, when they meet with reporters tonight, "Sean, you didn't seem very happy last night.
Why was that?"
I, I Mike- "What was going on?"
Right.
Right.
Yeah, he's gonna have to answer that.
And, and Mike, I mean, th- to me, here's the biggest telltale, like you're talking about, yeah, one, the body language.
Two, we're talking about quarterback in the NFL with the great- e- one of the greatest offensive minds in the sport, and it feels like he was like, "You talk about him, GM.
I'm not talking about him.
I didn't pick him.
You want him, you talk about..." That's what it feels like right there.
I mean, r- r- Les Snead's gonna answer the question about the great quarterback play of, of J- of, of Ty Simpson, and, and, and McVay's not?
That, that, to me, said it all right there, too.
So that, that's what's crazy about it.
And then on top of that, did you pick the o- did you hear the other part?
This is where, this is where I, I just don't get it.
W- w- Les Snead says, "Well, he had to fall."
W- what?
He, he Everybody knew he was falling.
What are, what are you What, what?
He had to fall to 13?
I- that was a given.
He'd already fallen to 13.
It was, that was He fell weeks ago to 13.
Like, h- he almost said that like he was surprised.
Like, "Yeah, I thought certain teams might take him."
And that to me is shocking, because Les Snead usually has such a great feel for what's gonna happen in the draft and all that, and has been awesome at his job, but that one just does not make sense to me.
And, and of course, the press conference, it looks like it doesn't make sense to the Rams totally yet either.
Apparently Les Snead only follows Dan Orlovsky on Twitter.
That must be the only explanation.

So it, it does put in better context comments that Sean McVay made before the draft about Jimmy Garoppolo.

They were hopeful he would have a change of heart.
If not, "We do work on all these positions," McVay said, "whether you're saying it's a Fernando Mendoza, it's a Ty Simpson, it's a Nussmeier, it's Carson Beck.
There are a lot of guys that are gonna be good players in this draft, and if we feel like it fits for us, you consider it.
But we're hopeful and optimistic that you give Jimmy his time, maybe he'll have a change of heart."
This obviously closes the door on Jimmy Garoppolo.
I would think so.
It'll be Matthew Stafford, it'll be Ty Simpson, it'll be Stetson Bennett.
McVay said I don't know if we have sound of McVay's comments from last night, 'cause he did speak eventually.
Yeah.

He said that they, they did inform- Stafford Matthew Stafford- Right as to what was going on.
When Jay Glazer reported it last night, he pointed out that they called Stafford in the afternoon to let him know that this could happen, which is better than having him stumble into the draft room minutes before they potentially take him, like Drew Brees did when Saints nearly took Patrick Mahomes nine years ago.
But the ultimate bottom line for McVay was that Ty Simpson's gonna compete with Stetson Bennett.
So I don't know.
Maybe this is just some sort of an elaborate long con by McVay to be standoffish with Simpson because he's decided this is the way to coach him.
"I'm gonna act like I'm not enthused- and I'm gonna put a chip on his shoulder."
I asked Simpson on Wednesday about chip on the shoulder, and we assumed he'd have a big fricking chip on the shoulder, 'cause he was gonna go a lot later than he wanted to go, and maybe fall all the way out of the round.
Hard to have a chip on your shoulder when you go higher than anyone dreamed you would go.
Yeah, seriously.
He told me his window was two to 32, and I thought, "Is it really two?"

But it was closer to two than 32, which stunned me.

I got When the draft got over, I got a influx of texts about that right there.
Just like, "Ah, man, can you believe the Rams," you know, I'm paraphrasing, "took Ty Simpson at 13?"
I don't think anybody thought that was really gonna happen there.
I don't.
So yeah, it's, it's a shocking moment.
It was one of the, you know, the most shocking moment of the first round, I think, for sure, for a lot of reasons.
And then it becomes more shocking once you see the McVay presser.
That, that's where it becomes, "Oh, whoa."
