I am here with Melissa Jefferson Wooden, winner of the women's 100 meters at the Pre Classic again.
Talk me through the race, Melissa.
It was a fight, literally to the finish, but I wanted it more, so I got it.
I mean, one, the lean in and of itself, the type of lean really seemed to do it.
Was that something that was in your head as you were coming up on the line?
Did you think that, or was it just all instinct?
all instinct, but really, go- I'll probably go back and look at the race and see what I could fix.
but, you know, the biggest thing was to be able to go out there and, I tried to run a 120, right?
Not focusing on the line, but running through it.
And so I feel like that's why I got the win today, but then also just being real disciplined on who I am and what I bring to the table.
I mean, season's best time, obviously.
And also, I mean, a pretty close battle, as you said.
Uh-huh.
I mean, what is the caliber of the women's 100 meters right now, and also what does it mean that you are dominating it?
it's incredible.
very humbling.
You know, a lot of these girls out here, they come out, well, they're in their respective training camps and training as hard as they can to be one of the fastest.
And, you know, it's just something that goes across the board.
Like, this year we had two heats of the women's 100.
Like, that just speaks to the, the, the depth of the women's 100 right now.
And, you know, also with the changing of the guards, you see a little bit of new faces, but also some faces who've been coming on towards the end of some of the legends' career.
But, you know, it's a good thing to know that, I'm blessed with the opportunity to be a part of something that's, you know, taking another step forward.
Pretty good start today.
Technically, what are, what are you gonna take out of that race today?
technically, just trying to think back o- on it now, I feel like I had a really well-executed race.
If anything, I could just be probably a little bit more aggressive with how I transition, or something like that.
But at the end of the day, you know, sometimes it's about competing more than it is technique.
And so I feel like I had a good balance of both, and I competed when it mattered the most.
And so that, yeah, we here.
I mean, you seemed pretty pumped after that race.
Just talk about the emotions that you're feeling right now.
Oh yeah, y'all, like y'all don't understand the type of mental warfare I be going through on a reg- on a regular day basis, and I'm gonna leave it at that.
But at the end of the day, I know who my help come from.
I'm covered.
God forever got me.
And whoever trying to get in my way, you gotta deal with him first.
