Mets' 11-Game Losing Streak: What's Going Wrong for New York?
The New York Mets face their longest losing streak in 22 years, raising questions about management and player performance in a season full of challenges.

Lot of fanfare, a lot of fun over the off-season for the New York Mets.
Made a trade to get a, quality pitcher there in Freddy Peralta over from Milwaukee.
Bichette comes over, Sim- I mean, they had so many changes, that lineup, to get excited for.
And then you see that the Mets are in their m- midst of their longest losing streak in 22 years, 11 straight losses.
And yesterday, you probably figured, Joe, they're gonna finally get out of it.
One-nothing lead into the ninth.
Our closure that we brought in, Devin Williams, who was really bad for the Yankees, well, it turned out yesterday he was really bad for the Mets as well.
Blown save, extra innings, Mets go down again.
11 straight losses.
Yeah.
I mean, it, it was funny, right?
They, they used Peterson as, the length guy in relief there, and it, it worked.
I mean, they were trying to do anything to, to mix it up.
I mean, they, they held them scoreless there, Chicago, until, well, they didn't in the ninth inning or the 10th inning, for that matter.
Devin Williams, boy, it was It was like watching it all over again as a Yankee guy, going, "Oh, that I know that Devin Williams.
Yes, blown save in the ninth inning."
And then, of course, I had no idea Craig Kimbrel was even- in Major League Baseball anymore, but apparently he pitches for the Mets.
And I know that 'cause, his wild pitch sending, Pete Armsstrong, Pete Crow-Armstrong to third base in extra innings, sack fly later, game over, and the Mets lose 2-1. typical.
And just gr- when it's going bad, Donny, everything goes bad, and that's kind of where the Mets are right now.
Nothing they do is good enough.
Yeah, Steve Cohen tweeted out last night, everything looked good yesterday.
"Hey, guys, bright spot.
We had the lead in the ninth inning.
We just lost it."
Yeah.
Baby steps, 11 games in a row.

A lot of that talk is gonna be around Carlos Mendoza.
I mean, what would you say about how the mana- the job the manager's done with you guys?
He's done a fantastic job.
This is not on him.

He has b- he has, he has to make sure everybody here is prepared, every coach here is prepared, and we have the information.
It comes down on us.

He's in control, and he's done a tremendous job.
We just haven't executed.
You know, it would be unfair to put everything on him, 'cause at the end of the day, he has gotten the ship in the right direction.
We just have to The people are paddling.

And basically what he's saying is the manager isn't doing anything wrong.
Well, you have an 11 game losing streak, which means he's not putting the right lineups out there, not giving you the right motivation.
You guys aren't working on the right things.
The one thing we do know, Joe, about professional sports, high-priced players, hard to move.
Managers, easy to fire.
A- and without I mean, but Donny, is he just not hanging the lineup card that he's being given from the front office and the analytics department?
Is he not writing it down correctly?
Is he- No hanging it on the wrong wall?
Like- That penalty shoot what exactly is his role on this team besides babysitter?
That's all Major League Baseball managers are.
He's not making any decisions.
That's ridiculous.
All he's doing there is putting up the lineup card.
And I agree, it, it's not on him.
The manager has nothing to do with this right now.
It's execution.
And by the way, did he overpay for Bichette?
