Micah Parsons opens up about ACL tear recovery 'The Insiders'
Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons talks to the media about his recovery following his ACL tear on "The Insiders".
Video Transcript
In Green Bay, they've been able to do both of those things for quite a while.
They traded 2 1st round picks last year for a pass rusher themselves, Micah Parsons, who tore his ACL on this play back in December.
Parsons spoke with reporters today, confirmed he will not be ready for the start of the season, and that he had a cleanup procedure on his meniscus as well.
Here's part of his chat with the media.
Sometimes we can make the hard things look easy.
And you know it's OK to go through hard times, um, you know, the injury has nothing but slight of hard and it came with a lot of hardship days where you're pushed and you're challenged in different ways and just even just the simple things is doing the RDL or a single leg squat just gaining your motion and your gait back and just running again, um, so I just learned that, you know what I always thought of myself that.
Just being present every day and just enjoying my process of rebuilding myself and getting stronger and learning just how to be just having start to have more fun with the process, you know, getting back to where I once was before I got hurt.
Judy, there's no such thing as an easy game in the NFL, but if you look at the Packers' schedule, it could be worse out of the gate here, but does not sound like Micah Parsons will be back for that first game against the Bears in October.
What is the meaning of his absence for at least a month and quite possibly a little bit beyond?
Right, there is that section in the middle of October that is Bears, Cowboys, Lions.
Those are obviously going to be three huge games for them.
But first, let's get back to this.
Um, this is the right thing to do.
You have to be careful with Micah Parsons.
He has a long career ahead of him.
You want to make sure, as he said, that there are no setbacks.
He gets back on the field, so they need to make sure that he is fully ready to go.
What does it mean for the team?
Well, I mean, let's be clear, they did not win a game without Micah Parsons.
He got hurt.
They lost the remaining games of the regular season, and then they bowed out in the first round of the playoffs.
So this is a challenge for Jonathan Gannon, the new defensive coordinator, to figure out how to manage this.
Defense without Micah Parsons, it is a different unit with Micah Parsons on the field, and they will get the benefit of that when he finally gets back, hopefully in the middle of October.
This is the right thing to do, to take it slowly and conservatively.
It's the right thing to do for the Packers long term.
It's certainly the right thing to do for Micah Parsons long term, and as he said, you need him ready for the push at the end of the season and into the playoffs, so you can't afford to have a setback early in the season.
You also need to make sure you win enough games early on in the season, something the Packers have found out in recent years when the likes of Jordan Love have missed time because of injuries in the early going.
Anytime you're having one of your best and most expensive players not on the field, it puts pressure on everybody else around them, and let's be honest here, it puts some pressure onto Jordan Love and that offense to be able to deliver right out of the gate, even if Micah Parsons were healthy.
You've got a new scheme, a new coordinator in Jonathan Gannon coming in.
There's gonna be some growing pains in the early going here.
It'll be fascinated to see how Green Bay approaches this thing, just from not just a scheme standpoint, but from a game management standpoint.
How they decide to play.
Matt LaFleur is one of the top coaches in the entire NFL and they got a very familiar opponent with the Vikings ahead in week one.
