Montgomery denies report that he wants out of DET

You know, it's been known for a while, if you're paying close attention, that the situation in Detroit at running back, Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, it's not sustainable.
Jahmyr Gibbs is a budding superstar, and he's probably gonna get a contract this year that reflects it.
Yeah.
And once that happens, you know what you gotta do?
You gotta use him like a superstar, and it's already felt as if it's shifting that way, which means David Montgomery likely on the outs.
He reportedly wants out of Detroit.
He has denied that.
The Lions are looking for a day three draft pick for David Montgomery.
I go back to when Brad Holmes was talking about David Montgomery at his end of season press conference.
It was clear they're thinking about trading David Montgomery.
How could you not think about it when you have Jahmyr Gibbs ready to become one of the best running backs in the NFL?
He's already one of the best.
He's just not used enough for it to be as obvious as it should be.
No, Jahmyr Gibbs is, is one of the best offensive players in, in the NFL, period.
Forget just running back.
There- there's very few guys, as we talk about all the time, where we call 'em, right, anytime, anywhere guys.
They can score from anytime, anywhere on the field, any way you want.
Running a receiving route, run it up the middle, toss it on the edge, 90 yards away, he can score.
He's incredible.
He's arguably the most explosive player in the on offense in the whole league.
It- it's, it's in that discussion, if not on top of the, in, on top of that discussion.
So I understand David Montgomery wanting to get out of there, and I know he put the tweet out there, but yeah, I, I get that.
I think he probably sees, the writing on the wall, that, that it's certainly gonna be Jahmyr Gibbs' show.
He's gonna get the majority of the carries.
But at the same time, as we saw last year, even though it went up, he still got the ball a decent amount, David Montgomery, but somebody will want him out there.
Somebody.
It'll probably be a late round pick or, you know, mid to late round pick, something like that.
He's under contract.
It's an affordable number.
He doesn't have a ton of wear and tear on his body because he has shared carries kinda wherever he has gone, and he's a big bell cow, thumper type of running back, too, who still seems like he's in pretty damn good shape here, you know, in year what?
This has gotta be year six or seven for him now.
There's been some suggestion that the Seahawks would be a destination- even when they lose- Makes sense Kenneth Walker- Yeah to free agency, which would be an interesting situation to say the least.
But you're gonna see a lot of names like that, guys who are gonna be cut, guys who are gonna possibly be traded, guys who they'll try to trade, and if they can't trade 'em, they'll cut them.
This is about slashing salary cap space.
It's about moving on from players with big cap numbers.
And the best contracts have devices in there that force a decision early.
If you get to the out years of a contract with non-guaranteed money, you wanna have a roster bonus of at least a million, although there have been teams that have paid the million just to hold the rights and make a decision later.
You want the kind of a payment to come due or a guaranteed vest that forces an early decision so you can get to the market before the money dries up.
That's part of the game that we're gonna see over the next week.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You're, you're, you're exactly right, and that's where the next week is, is kind of fun.
There's gonna be a lot of news.
You're gonna have some good players go, "Damn, I didn't think they were gonna let go of him," but hard decisions have to be made between franchise tagging and big free agents and balancing the checkbook to where this is why part of the reason the NFL is king, because we're gonna be dominating the news here for the next two weeks 'cause we're gonna have star players on the move and not with teams that we thought they would be.
Fun is a matter of perspective.
