How will Murray signing impact Jefferson?

Let me talk about Kyler Murray for a moment.
I don't think it was a surprise, but I thought Ross Tucker bringing up something yesterday where he said that Kyler Murray was gonna be interviewing teams.
I haven't seen any reports on this, but he talked about Kyler Murray getting on a Zoom call.
He was gonna do a one-year deal with Minnesota, but he kinda wants to know where his future's going to be after this.
Now, I don't know if that happened or not, but Ross brought that up that maybe he's talking to between three and five teams about more than just one year.
If I'm Kyler Murray, I worry about this year, because if you take care of business this year, you're not gonna have to worry about where you're gonna be the following year.
Here is the question posed to Kyler Murray after signing with the Vikings.
Do you view this as, as you're coming in as the starting quarterback?
Do you view this as a competition?
Yeah, no.
like I said, I'm just grateful for the opportunity, grateful for the opportunity.
you know, I look forward to coming in and competing, getting to learn the offense, getting to be with, Coach O'Connell.
obviously he's had a lot of success and, again, I'm just looking for- looking forward to the opportunity to come in here and compete.
Yeah, and this is what Kevin O'Connell said.
He wants competition there with J.J. McCarthy.
McCarthy has not played well.
He's, been hurt.
The quarterbacking play, you know, it's remarkable how bad the Vikings quarterbacks were last year, and they nearly carved out a five hundred or, above five hundred record.
You can, go back to J.J. McCarthy in a loss to the Falcons, threw for a hundred and fifty yards.
Actually, Vikings went nine and eight last year, didn't they?
Not eight and nine?
Nine and eight.
nine and eight, yeah.
Five hundred record with this quarterback play.
So J.J. McCarthy threw for, a hundred and fifty yards, two interceptions, loss to the Falcons.
Loss to the Steelers, Carson Wentz threw two interceptions.
the Eagles, in a loss to the Eagles, Carson Wentz threw two interceptions.
In a loss to the Chargers, Carson Wentz threw one hundred-- threw for one hundred forty-four yards and an interception.
In a loss to the Ravens, J.J. McCarthy, two interceptions in a one-possession game.
in a loss to the Bears, McCarthy threw for a hundred and fifty yards and two interceptions.
McCarthy threw for eighty-seven yards, two interceptions in a loss to the Packers, and then in a loss to the Seahawks, Max Brosmer threw for one hundred and twenty yards, four interceptions.
Any kind of quarterback play, anything that resembles average or a little better, now you're talking at least two more wins.
Now you got 11 wins in a tough division.
So Kyler Murray coming to d- to town, and, I'm curious what Justin Jefferson thinks of this.
Whenever I think of the Vikings, you know, it's not normal that when you think of your NFL team, you go right to another position player, not a quarterback.
But in this situation, Justin Jefferson Now, he still had decent numbers.
He didn't score many touchdowns.
I think he had two.
But now you got Kyler Murray, and they're gonna change the offense.
They're gonna put him in shotgun.
Kevin O'Connell has had his quarterbacks under center a lot, but from the reports, they're-- I mean, you gotta play to Kyler Murray's strengths here.
I think it's a great pickup.
You know, I don't think you can lose in this situation from the standpoint of you get him for one point three million.
He's getting paid by the Cardinals.
I just wanna know if he's motivated, because if he is, then this could be, you know, a fun, special year in Minnesota.

How's Jeff- Justin Jefferson feeling this morning, confident or concerned?
I would say you gotta be more confident after this season.
there was real concern, so anything that resembles a starting quarterback, I'd be like, "All right."
He did bring out the, a great season in DeAndre Hopkins back in twenty twenty.
Now, I know that's a long time ago, but- That one time six years ago- I- a wide receiver had- Yes a good season with them.
Yes.
So hey, that's, that's good.
I, I like the move.
I think that there is, there's a ton of potential there.
The question is, does he wanna play, and can they make it work in this offense?
But if you have-- if Justin Jefferson, It's a good place to start, let's put it that way.

Three years ago, Justin Jefferson, one hundred and eighty-four targets, one hundred and twenty-eight catches, eighteen hundred yards.
That was with Kirk Cousins, a non-scrambler.
Yeah.
Well, I wonder if you could have Kirk Cousins or Kyler Murray back.
If you ask Justin Jefferson, who's he gonna want?
He'd probably say Kirk Cousins.
but I like Kyler Murray.
I think it's a no risk, one year, see what you can do, and then after that, you can decide.
You wanna keep him or you move on.
Maybe J.J. McCarthy is gonna be healthy.
Maybe he's gonna be a first-round talent.

That's the thing that would bug me about, Justin Jefferson, or if I was him, is that it's, you know, you know, now another new quarterback, that what we're gonna give him a shot for a year to see what happens, and then maybe we go back to the other guy that was there that maybe we're not sure about either.
There's just a lot of limbo.
It's not so much about Kyler Murray himself, although that would be concerning to me too.
It's the fact that the Vikings are like, "All right, let's give a, this guy another shot.
See what happens with him."
Like, dude, but what-- Can't we get a little stability here at who's throwing me the ball?
It would worry me that we're headed down the Larry Fitzgerald path.
Exactly, yeah.
If you look at the quarterbacks that he had, and you go, "How did he have that many catches, that many yards?"
Now, he had a couple of really good quarterbacks, but also he had a long list of below average quarterbacks.
And if I'm Justin Jefferson-I don't wanna go down that road.
It's a Hall of Fame road, but I don't wanna go down that road with, that list of characters at quarterback.

And the level of frustration that he must feel because the quarterback that went somewhere else won the Super Bowl, so he's like, "We had our quarterback.
We won 14 games with him."
What else is bothering you?

If you go back to- Oh, no, I didn't.

If you go back to early Larry Fit- Thought he was gonna drop the mic.
If you go back to early Larry Fitzgerald, he had, you know, he had a great quarterback, but then in the middle of his career, Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, Ryan Lindley, Max Hall, and then his numbers would be, like, 71 catches instead of 108, but that was the problem.
Yeah, and he was a wonderful player, Hall of Fame player, but there had to be frustration of, "Can't we get somebody that I can really count on?"
How is it this hard to find somebody to throw me the ball consistently?
I mean, I'm pretty You know, if I'm one of these dudes like that, if I'm a Larry Fitzgerald or a Justin Jefferson or, you know, a, a Any great wide receiver, it's like, how is it this difficult to find a quarterback to throw me the ball?
I agree.

That's crazy.
And then you have Marvin Harrison Jr. III where you think you have that wide receiver, and you don't.
Now, he had a pretty good year, or second half of the year, I believe.
you got Trey McBride, and, you know, Cardinals weren't able to take advantage of that.
But I, I, I do like the move, and it's no surprise going to Minnesota.
Now I guess the waiting game is what the Steelers do.
I guess it's Aaron Rodgers or Will Howard or Who else do they have on the roster?
