Murray vs. McCarthy QB competition 'one to watch'
Chris Simms and Connor Rogers react to reports of a "true competition" brewing in Minnesota between quarterbacks Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy for the starting spot.

So Minnesota with a strong wide receiver trio now.
Now, who will be throwing them the ball?
The reports are it'll be a true competition between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy.
No hand-holding.

No you get the reps and the chance first.
It's just Well, I like this strategy a lot, by the way.

I, I, most, most quarterback competitions are not real.
Yeah.
More times than not, it's like, "Yeah, we're competing," but one guy's gotta really screw up to lose the job.
that's usually how it goes in the NFL.
This one has felt real from the start, and the fact that they're saying it, and everybody's saying it, you know it's real.
J.J. McCarthy certainly has not done enough.
And, and they're a good enough team right now where they're like, "Well, we can't wait.
We're going."
That's the problem.
"We're going," right?
"We're going, so we're gonna play the best guy."
And Kyler Murray has never been a part of an offense like this, and you're excited to see what he can do because Kyler Murray still has an explosive arm, and he can still move and do all that stuff, too.
But let's not forget, J.J. McCarthy's got an explosive arm.
He does.
And he's a better athlete than maybe we give him credit for.
So this'll, this'll be interested and interesting in guy we invested in with a first-round pick, but not totally working out, so we're not, like, handcuffed to him.
We're not tied to him through the history of football here.
And, you know, we got a guy that's hungry and wants to prove haters wrong.
And he's disappointed with how things ended in Arizona, so that's where it's, it's gonna be, cool to watch as this all unfolds.
Well, and also, people involved in drafting him, not all, but some, have been fired already- Yeah, yeah because of him.
When you look at Kwesi, who one who's now with the Niners- Yeah actually- Back with the Niners as a personnel executive.
Yeah.
Very unique football track record.
Well, that, that's what makes you think about all this, and obviously, I think the end of Kwesi's time in Minnesota is related to the quarterback stuff, 100%.
I don't think there's any doubt about that.
That's the jump-off.
I don't know what other stuff was going on, too, but I would say that's the jump-off.
And what it makes me also question was, was this just Kwesi's pick altogether?
I mean, is that why they're not, you know, tied to J.J. the same way?
Maybe Kevin O'Connell's a little bit like, "I," you know, "I, I liked him, but I, I wasn't like, 'I gotta have J.J.
McCarthy.'"
It was the GM.
Yeah.
I don't know.

so yes, it just feels a little different that way, and it's rare that you feel like the number 11 pick in the draft doesn't have the, the inside track automatically.
