NHL Rumor Roundup: No Progress On A Quinn Hughes Contract, Latest On Erik Karlsson
Internet rumors link Quinn Hughes to the New Jersey Devils while contract talks continue with the Minnesota Wild. Meanwhile, there's a prediction that Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson could join the Toronto Maple Leafs before the March trade deadline.

I'm Lyle Richardson of The Hockey News, and in today's NHL Rumor Roundup column, I'm looking at the latest on, Quinn Hughes of the Minnesota Wild and Eric Carlson of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
We begin with Hughes, as there has been, some speculation, linking him to the New Jersey Devils.
And the reason for that is because, contract talks, with the Wild have apparently, have been ongoing, but there's been no sign of any real progress.
So that has some people online suggesting or even claiming that the, Wild were in trade talks with the Devils.
However, Michael Russo of The Athletic covers the, Wild, and he reports that his sources, strongly indicate that there is no truth to this speculation whatsoever.
And that stands to reason because it was only earlier this month that Wild general manager Bill Guerin provided an update on the negotiations and basically was preaching patience, that it was going to take some time to get, a player of Hughes' caliber re-signed, but he ultimately expected to get a deal done, and it's hoped that it'll get done before the start of the regular season.
Meanwhile, Sportsnet's Elliot Friedman was, talking to one of his sources who, made a prediction that, Eric Carlson of the Penguins could end up joining the Toronto Maple Leafs before the, trade deadline in March, depending on how this season pans out for both teams.
Carlson is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, and so naturally, that makes sense that there would be some, talk about what his future might hold if the Penguins are out of the playoff race by the trade deadline.
However, I wouldn't hold my breath very much, waiting for Carlson to be traded to the Maple Leafs.
He has full control over his situation, and he might not be able to help the Maple Leafs defensively.
