Notre Dame Depth Chart Overview: Quarterback
CJ Carr returns as a Heisman frontrunner. Will he carry Notre Dame to a national championship after a record-breaking season?
Video Transcript
Last year, you were a team that built your offense around the running backs because you weren't gonna build it around your red shirt freshman quarterback, the same way you will build it around your red shirt fresh- red shirt sophomore quarterback, who now has 12 starts under his belt.
You know, y- last year you might have, early on in the season, the focus of the offense was Malachi Fields.
Team started to play that.
This year, the focus of the offense is gonna be more Jordan Faison.
It's gonna be more Jayden Greathouse.
It's gonna be more, you know, the, the, the running backs out of the backfield, potentially.
There's, there's an evolution of, where Notre Dame's offense is going to go.
What's the offensive line gonna look like?
So it's not about, okay, you plug and play these two guys, run the exact same offense, and then expect those guys to match the level of production from the guys they lost.
That's not how it works.
It's about a shift and an evolution.
So now you talk about, now you build around CJ Carr.
Now you build around Jordan Faison.
Now you're gonna build your offensive line around Anthony Knappen and Gerby Lambert, and, and fitting them in where they best fit, and where they can best be part of an elite offensive line.
So there's a lot of things.
You know, you, you've got some injury question marks that are gonna have a big impact on how good this team is gonna be this year, Trev.
You know, what, what's Jayden Greathouse look like?
You know, where's Ashton Craig at?
When, when will he be back?
Will he be healthy?
And then I think the biggest injury question mark of all is, will you have Charles Jackason?
And until Notre Dame tells us yay or nay, we don't know the answer to that.
Now, we know all the rumors that you guys hear.
We hear all that stuff, too.
But until Notre Dame tells us what's going on, we don't know.
So there are a lot of questions, Trev, about, A, can the evolution of the offense provide the same result?
Can an offense built around CJ Carr, not Jeremiah Love, have the same level of effect that last year's offense did?
Can the return of Jayden Greathouse negate the loss of Malachi Fields?
'Cause I'm not gonna ask Quincy Porter I'm gonna ask Quincy Porter to kind of somewhat replace the production that Will Pauling had.
I want Jayden Greathouse to replace the production that Malachi Fields had.
It'll look different, but those are the questions that we have and, and we don't know how those are going to go, but those are gonna go a long way.
Those players and that, that evolution is gonna go a long way towards determining whether or not this offense can remain, the elite group that Notre Dame needs it to be.
