Not nearly as strange, but 2023 quarterback recruiting at one time, and you ended up with Kenny Minchey in that class, but at one point you had a silent commitment from Dante Moore.
It was like from like February to like April-ish, like a month and a half or so.
He was silently committed to this s- to the class, so much so that he was recruiting heavily for Notre Dame, including trying to get Cornell Tate to join him in South Bend.
Like it was that entrenched in the Notre Dame recruiting landscape.
Dante Moore was doing a lot of heavy lifting behind the scenes.
Then there started to be some questions of like, "Well, hey man, awesome, but this is a private commitment.
Can we make this public at some point?"
So he silently, privately committed for like a month and a half, doesn't want to go to public for whatever reason, and then CJ Carr in the 2024 class says basically this to staff, like, "I want to commit.
I want to come to Notre Dame."
And Notre Dame had a very high opinion of CJ Carr as well, so much so that you basically had to pick between the two because Dante, they're both from Michigan, Dante did not want to be in the same program as CJ Carr.
I mean that just is what it is, or at least I should say Dante Moore's family did not want those two a part of the same program.
So eventually you basically had to say, "Dante, like we're taking CJ's commitment, you can leave," and basically both sides parted ways.
Dante ends up signing with UCLA, plays there for a year, backup at Oregon for one season after transferring, and now he's considered to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football.
I do often wonder what may have been if Dante Moore ended up sticking with the Fighting Irish in that class.
