Defensive lineman slash outside linebacker Chauncey Golson came to the New York Giants last offseason with real momentum.
He was coming off a career year with the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he had 5.5 sacks, 56 tackles, and a pick in 2024.
The Giants saw a versatile physical pass rusher who could potentially strengthen both the edge and their run defense, but then reality hit, ankle issues early, a neck injury that cost him 5 games, and even when Goldston was healthy.
Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen couldn't quite figure out how to get everyone on the defensive line involved to the best of their abilities.
Goldston played just 10 games in his first season with the Giants' flashing potential, but never fully delivering.
Now comes year 2.
New defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson has a reputation for actually deploying his players to their strengths.
And Galston's strength includes rushing from the interior.
That's exactly where Wilson is expected to use Goldston more.
Add in a fully guaranteed 5.25 million salary that makes it impossible for the Giants to cut Goldston, and he's not going anywhere.
The Giants need him to stay healthy and show up, and he's proven in the past that he has the talent to be productive.
If he can stay healthy, show up, and be effective, the Giants are going to be all the more better on their defensive front seven.
