Oregon Ducks Assistant Head Coach Ra'Shaad Samples discusses Running Back Dierre Hill Jr.'s growth. Samples talks about how he understands many things about the game more and he has made a big jump in understanding what defenses are doing and the understanding of the game.

Portland Deer had a, a big year, obviously as a freshman.
What are you seeing from them in their first offseason to try and, you know, take that next step and continue to develop?
Growth, you know, um, they, they did that last year and really didn't know what they were doing.
They're, they're going through the maturation process.
Um, they're, they're growing.
They have to understand who they are as players, understand their strengths and weaknesses.
They were Operating off of pure talent last year.
They, they've gotten the film more, in the film room more, they understand the game conceptually, what we're trying to accomplish, uh, the moving parts of the offense, different spots.
So like just growth, they should be key parts of not just like the backfield, but our offense.
Just gonna ask you specifically with the, like what, what, what is, what do we need to see this offseason for him to become an every down back, I guess, because I think last year wasn't really involved in pass protection.
What's the growth there specifically?
Yeah, just understanding, you know, defensive structure.
You know what I'm saying?
Understanding rotation, understanding where his scan at, understanding what, what we're trying to accomplish in protection, understanding fronts and defenses.
And, and I want to say, man, I want to talk about that guy.
Like he's, he's made an outstanding jump in past pro and understanding defenses.
I mean, he, he's even surprised me.
Like I'm like, You know, sometimes I'm like, like, did you know that?
Did you understand what the defense was doing there?
He was like, I, I knew pre-snap.
I saw the shell.
I, I saw rotation.
I saw what they were trying to disguise, and man, he's grown already in that area.
He's going to have to continue to, uh, get gain strength, uh, as a young guy and, and work on his past pro, but just the understanding of the game, already he's taken a huge leap.
