There's a crazy situation going on in Philadelphia right now, which is, it's just unbelievable when you watch what you're doing to a former Super Bowl MVP in quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The Philadelphia Eagles this off-season have made absolute face- facelift changes to their entire offensive coaching staff and the approach.
They've hired Sean Manny, the new OC, who's in the Sean McVay tree when it comes to West Coast offense.
They've hired a brand-new litany of wide receivers.
They bringing in Hollywood Brown.
They're bringing in and going out and getting in a trade Dontayvon Wicks from the Green Bay Packers.
They went out in the draft and got Mekhi Lemon and turned around and got a tight end and a second pick.
They are going from what made them successful.
Last four years, the Philadelphia Eagles are 50 and 18, with two NFC championships and a Super Bowl, and a quarterback who was named MVP in the game.
What do they do now?
They're completely changing the entire offense because they say this and they're telling their fans, "We can't win any longer with this style of play."
They basically want Jalen Hurts to play like Brock Purdy.
They want him to be a West Coast-style offensive quarterback.
How in God's name can a guy whose skill set is dual threat turn around and try to become a Brock Purdy or a Matthew Stafford?
Have you ever in your life ever heard a guy who went out and won the MVP award, has gone to two Super Bowls, and asked him to be a different ballplayer?
I mean, this makes no sense.
Again, it's like, it's like going to Joe Burrow and saying, "Hey, I want you to play the same style of football as Josh Allen."
You're not gonna get that same kinda result and nor would you be insane to do that.
"Hey, I'd like to see Patrick Mahomes play more like Josh Allen.
Put your head in there and run the football."
Nobody does that.
It's kind of ass-backwards in what they're doing in Philly.
You've had so much success.
Hey, either you believe in a quarterback or you don't, or is Jalen Hurts the guy that we think he is?
He's a caboose.
This is exactly what we've been saying for the last five years.
We said that Jalen Hurts in his time was not gonna be a long thing in Philadelphia, and now the Philadelphia Eagle management folks, with Howie Roseman and all, are saying the same thing.
"Jalen, either come with us or we're gonna move on from you."
How in the world are you asking a former MVP in a Super Bowl to play like someone else?
They don't want him to play the same style of play.
Here, in the last five years, the Philadelphia Eagle offensive passing game has been ranked this: 28th, eighth, 16th, 29th, and then 23rd last year.
Bottom 10 for the last five years.
Eagle management and the head football coach, Nick Sirianni, this off-season said, "We've gotta make drastic and sweeping changes."
What do they do?
They fire one of the greatest coaches in the history of the NFL in Jeff Stoutland.
They get rid of the offensive coordinator.
They bringing all people that are connected with the Sean McVay passing tree.
This is not what Jalen Hurts did.
This was one of the reasons that he was replaced at Alabama by Tua Viola, 'cause he could not be consistent in throwing the football.
2026 is gonna be a tell-all year for the Philadelphia Eagles and with Jalen Hurts.
He is clearly at a crossroads right now.
Who would have ever thought that a guy with this kind of winning would be in a position that he would be sitting there and not getting a contract extension?
Name me another guy in the NFC that has played the way that Jalen Hurts has and has won as much as Jalen Hurts who wouldn't get a contract extension.
You give contract extensions to people like Trevor Lawrence and folks who have never won.
Why isn't the Philadelphia Eagles giving a contract extension to Jalen Hurts?
It's very simple.
It's because they don't bl- they don't buy it and they don't believe it.
Make no mistake about it here, this is a tell-all year.
Jalen Hurts is either gonna elevate the passing game in Philadelphia or they are going to move on in the 2027 season.
They got an out in the contract, and if they do it post June 1, they'll be in a position where they can go and maybe take a look at what they're gonna look at potentially in the future for a quarterback.
