Phillies' MLB Trade Deadline Hopes Have Taken an Obvious Hit
The Philadelphia Phillies probably won't be calling this team about a trade deadline move.

So we know that the Phillies will absolutely be looking to make some moves between now and the MLB trade deadline.
They need help at really all facets of their roster.
They need to get at least one more bat, preferably from the outfield.
They gotta get some starting rotation depth, and they need to add another arm or two in their bullpen.
And one team that seemed to be a perfect match for the Phillies in that regard was the Boston Red Sox.
I mean, they had a ton of players on that roster who could be moved to the deadline and would make sense for Philadelphia.
I mean, you have outfielder Jarren Duran, you have starting pitcher Sonic Gray, you have reliever Elroles Chapman.
They have a lot of pieces there.
But the problem for Philadelphia now is that the Red Sox are winning.
They have now won 10 of the last 12 games, and somehow they have reestablished themselves as playoff contenders in the American League, even though they're forty-two and forty-eight.
And, you know, they have, they have a plus 17 run differential, so you kinda get the feeling this team is better than its record indicates.
And remember, this was a playoff team last year, so I don't think Boston is as bad as they have been playing the first three months of the season.
And now heading into the trade deadline, you know, this is not a small market franchise, even though the Red Sox have operated like one in recent years.
They are usually in, in win now mode, and if they see an opportunity to make the postseason, I don't think they're going to just blow it up and trade all their guys before August 3rd.
And that's bad news for the Phillies because the Red Sox again had some players that would make perfect sense for Philadelphia.
Now, I will say that a lot can change between now and the deadline, right?
There's still three and a half weeks left here.
The Red Sox could go into a tailspin and then just go into full tear down mode by August 3rd.
So the possibility is still open, but you kinda get the feeling again that this Red Sox team is kind of trying to prove now.
And, you know, they enter play on Wednesday, just three games in a loss column out of a wildcard spot in the American League.
T-that's incredible given where this team was just two weeks ago.
So I do think there's a possibility of that Boston either stands pat or actually buys between now and the trade deadline because it has, you know, worked itself into playoff contention in the AL.
And for the Phillies, they'd have to go and look elsewhere then for solutions.
And that well, I think might be more dry than people may think at the deadline just because of the fact that there are so many teams still in the playoff hunt.
