Rams secure their spot in the playoffs while Lions still on the outside

USA TODAY's Tyler Dragon on the LA Rams securing their spot in NFL playoffs and the implications of the loss for the Detroit Lions.

The Rams are the first team in the NFC to clinch a playoff spot after a 41-10 win 34-0 win over the Detroit Lions.

It was not all good for the Rams, though.

Their star wide receiver, Davante Adams, suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter.

Sean McVeigh did not sound optimistic about Adams' availability this week 16 on a short week as they travel to Seattle Thursday night in the NFC West showdown Against the Seattle Seahawks.

As for the Detroit Lions, their playoff hopes are very slim right now.

They basically have to win their next 3 games, and they need some help.

According to NextGen Stats, they probably have around a 40% chance to reach the postseason.

But they played the Minnesota Vikings.

They play the Bears; they play the Steelers next week.

And they basically have to win all their games.

I was talking to Jared Goff and some of the players in the locker room.

They still sounded optimistic.

They still have hope they can turn things around Season's around, get into the playoffs.

Right now, they are 3rd in the NFC North Division, behind the Chicago Bears and Lions The Packers, and they've already been swept by Green Bay this year.

The Lions have won the division two straight seasons in a row.

But it's looking like they'll be on the outside looking in come playoff time.
