Russell Westbrook Retires: NBA's Triple-Double King
Russell Westbrook retires as the NBA's triple-double king after 18 seasons, leaving a legacy of mixed reviews. Westbrook was one of his generation's greats.

And kudos to Russell Westbrook.
We learned after 18 seasons, he is, I believe, the all-time triple-double leader.
He's like the triple-double king of the- Yeah NBA.
18 years, he is calling it a career.
And boy, what could have I still say he's one of those guys, what could have been, but man, Durant and Harden in OKC could not wait to get away from him.
They could have won- multiple championships had they actually put it all together.
But he still had a pretty good career for 18 years in the NBA, for sure.
He certainly did.
The last few years weren't great.
I know a lot of people are gonna hold that against him, but- you know, we're talking about an MVP player.
He has a lot of accolades.
A, you know, like you said, the triple-doubles.
Averaging a triple-double throughout the entirety of the season is a tough thing to do.
He did that.
You know, the conversation's gonna turn to whether or not he goes into the hall, whether, you know, this, that, or the other thing.
I think we just give him his props, whether, you know, we like the way the end of his, the end of his career ended, which wasn't great, a lot of missed shots, but he was successful throughout his 18 years.
And it was fun to watch.
He's a fun player, and that's what it comes down to.
Yeah.
One of two players in the history of the NBA, the other being LeBron, to have more than 25,000 points and 10,000 assists in his career.
The numbers, you know, you p- you play 18 years, you're gonna rack up some numbers.
They are 14th all-time scoring, fifth- Mm-hmm in assists all time, which is kind of crazy as well.
He averaged almost 21 points a game, seven rebounds, eight as- I, I mean, what a He was excellent.
He was also a ball hog for most of, for a lot of those years.
But abso- I don't see there being a reason with the hall of fame.
Do you?
I don't.
I know people will kind of knock him for his efficiency, especially in the back half- of his career.
It just, he just wasn't an efficient player, and that's what it comes down to.
Like, he has a lot of stats.
He played a long time.
Like, he has a volume of stats.
It wasn't, you know, a finesse game, but I think he'll get in.
I know some people will hold some things against every players we see for, you know, every league, every hall.
Yes.
Yeah.
Well, they, of course, they'll always have This is, you know, the same type of voters that couldn't decide if Mariano Rivera should have been, you know, a first ballot Hall of Fa- Yeah, don't get me started- No with that.
