Sean O’Malley Warns Petr Yan Against Making 'Terrible Mistake' for Next Title Defense

Sean O'Malley said Petr Yan should reconsider returning from recent back surgery against Merab Dvalishvili, citing competitive risk for the champion. In remarks on YouTube, O'Malley called for Petr Yan to face him instead and referenced Yan's lumbar spine surgery and summer timetable. He argued that Merab Dvalishvili's relentless grappling poses challenges that differ from Sean O'Malley's striking-focused style. Yan described the procedure as minor but required nine hours of anesthesia and is expected to defend his title in a rematch with Dvalishvili upon return. Recent results cited include Yan's win at UFC 323 and O'Malley's rebound victory over Yadong Song at UFC 324.
