Seattle Mariners Reportedly Being Aggressive in Pursuit of Reliever at Trade Deadline
We know the M's need a high-leverage reliever and they are reportedly working on it before the Aug. 3 deadline.

Mariners wrapping up a series with the Texas Rangers on Monday, and boy, do they need a win.
They're 52-54.
They're a game and a half back of Texas.
A win would get them to a half game back and would keep the season-long tiebreaker in play for at least a little bit longer, and it would help the Mariners be in a position going towards the trade deadline on August 3rd to justifiably buy.
According to former Major League Baseball GM Jim Duquette, the M's are one of many teams pursuing reliever Luke Weaver from the New York Mets.
The Mariners reportedly being one of the most aggressive for him.
If you remember, Weaver was with the Mariners for just five games back in 2023.
He started in one of those games, relieved in four of them, and he really became a reliever full-time with the Yankees the next year, where he turned into one of the best right-handed setup men in the game.
Been with the Yankees for two years, the Mets now.
He's got an ERA under two this season, and again, the metrics are all fairly strong on Luke Weaver.
The Mariners could use a high-leverage guy with Matt Blash on the injured list, same as Carlos Vargas, same as Cooper Criswell.
Edward Bazardo has been good but not great, especially late.
So the M's could show up the bullpen.
Of course, the Mariners need offense, but if offense is going to be too hard to come by, then showing up the bullpen might just be the best way to go about things.
Trade deadline is August 3rd.
