What does Jim Nill need to do to get the Stars to that next level to secure himself and kind of end this hot seat conversation?
That's a tough one.
I, I don't know if he's necessarily on the hot seat.
I, I know the question is, is he on the hot seat?
But I, I would argue no.
Like, this is a guy who a year ago traded for Mikko Rantanen.
Yeah.
By all accounts that was a fabulous trade.
You know, he switches out Peter DeBoer for Glen Gulutzan.
You know, again, Dallas performed really well last year under their new head coach.
Yeah.
And, you know, Jason Robertson had got real ugly, but he's gonna be back in a Dallas Stars uniform next season, and then with Tyler Seguin coming off the books at the end of the year- Yeah there's a potential that Robertson could be, a career lifer in Dallas.
So, you know, it's tough.
You know, whenever we're talking about Dallas, Minnesota, or Colorado, it's always under the whole spectrum of, okay, it's the Central.
You know, one of these three teams is gonna be really disappointed, or well, two of them are gonna be really disappointed.
And, you know, unfortunately Dallas wasn't able to get the job done last year in the playoffs against Minnesota, and that's always gonna be the, the test is- Yeah you know, can they get through that gauntlet?
And I don't know if that's necessarily Jim Nill's fault or not.
Yeah, well, 'cause that's the question, right, is like with coaches we say, okay, well, like we need to see this team back in the Stanley Cup final or making it through the first round in order for them to, you know, be considered a successful season.
But for, for Dallas, they are in that never ending cycle of being disappointed, going up against a gauntlet team.
And how is that necessarily fair to say that the GM should be on the hot seat when they're the f- could have been the three best teams in the entire post-season, they just happened to run into each other earlier than everybody else does.
What do you think, Angello?
Yeah.
It may be un- inherently unfair to, to say that he's on the hot seat, but, you know, the Dallas Stars are sort of the Buffalo Bills of the NHL where they get You know, get, they get to the Western Conference Final and can't get to the Stanley Cup Final.
That's fair.
Whether, whether it's goal pending or w- or whatever reason.
I mean, the only thing I think is he's in danger of is being put in sort of Steve Yzerman land and be- go- Oh being promoted to senior advisor while they promote like a Rich Peverley or a Scott Whyte to GM.
I mean, you gotta remember, he did pull off the Rantanen deal.
He probably was very close to pulling off the Zach Werenski deal.
But that got- Right blocked by, by Werenski.
So, you know, he's t- he's taken swings, he's taken big swings, and he has to because he is coming up against Minnesota and Bill Guerin- Yeah and now Joe Sakic in Colorado.
And if you, if you're not moving, you're dying.
