All right, let's get to a little bit of college football.
So we talk a lot of college football on this show on Not So Fast.
Let's get to Arch Manning in Texas.
A lot of people like Arch Manning and Texas, not in that order, to win the national title.
They're definitely in the mix.
But I'm wondering with Arch Manning, has the hype from his freshman year, being a Manning family member, not cooled off, but kinda calmed down a little bit?
There's other people to talk about, Indiana and Miami and Oregon.
And it feels like he's in the perfect position to finish out his college career.
He still has two years of eligibility, not just one.
But what is a successful season for Arch in your mind?
And I'll give you mine.
Well, he has to make the playoff.
Oh, yeah.
Because I think he's tied to Steve Sarkisian, the head coach, and if they don't make the playoffs, Sark is out in my opinion.
They I mean, this is a, this is an u- Okay unbelievable team.
Last year he had no O line, no run game, and iffy wide receivers.
This year he's got a fixed O line, some injuries there, but he's got Kam Coleman, a wide receiver who's outstanding.
Yes.
Former Auburn player.
Great transfer.
So he had some excuses, not that we're about excuses, but last year he sort of had to learn the system.
He played much better in the second half.
This year they should be ready to go, and if they're not a playoff team, Paul, that's a disaster.
Yeah, and- So I'm not going national title, but I am definitely going college football playoff.
A- and I fell for the bait a little bit last year.
I think on the Dan Patrick Show said it's Arch Manning versus the field for the Heisman.
Yeah.
I got all caught up.
Oh, no.
You know, I, I kinda look like a Manning brother.
Cooper's my favorite.
But I will say though that Arch Manning winning a Heisman, don't care about it.
Yeah.
Eli didn't win it.
Peyton didn't win it.
Yeah.
The dad didn't win it.
Who cares about the Heisman?
Win a national title.
Nobody in the family even came close to a national title.
Wow, that's true.
For me, you know, I also define him as being the number one overall pick because Eli and Peyton did that.
Yep.
So to me it's more about his NFL future as well because he's a Manning.
You're right, the Mannings haven't really gotten to the highest level of college football.
They have gone number one, and Eli was not the best college quarterback.
No.
He still went number one.
Yeah, he At Ole Miss they never got close to getting, really doing damage.
Look at Texas plus 650.
I wanna do a minute on that.
Yeah.
If the draft were right now- Yeah do you think Arch Manning is third overall pick?
'Cause I think that's what people think.
Well, I've been- Third overall quarterback how many experts have come on the Dan Patrick Show this week and said CJ Carr- Three is the guy to watch?
Yes.
Well, and then- It's all CJ Carr then a lot of people have Dante Moore.
I'm saying right now, Paul, it's Arch Manning number one.
You're staying with it.
He is tall.
He has a big arm.
He can run.
Last name.
His last name is Manning.
And come on, Eli, if Eli can go number one, you're telling me Arch can't go number one?
Yeah, it does seem like I've always said that, Arch Manning, his last name helps him so much.
It's like the safe pick.
We used to do a thing back in the old Leisureman days, the bust meter.
Yeah.
There's not a possibility, at least I think with what teams think, is that Arch Manning cannot be a bust.
He will be a good quarterback.
If you look at Eli Manning during the regular season, he was a good NFL quarterback, but then he had two playoff runs that made him a legend and got him into this, get him in the Hall of Fame someday.
Do you remember, last year in the middle of the season, Will Leach wrote an article, our old friend- Absolutely that Arch Manning was college football's first bust.
Turned out, Will was wrong because Arch picked it up tremendously in the second half of the season, and I think he came out of last year doing just fine.
And Arch Manning could've gone to other colleges- Yeah that said, "You're gonna start week one, week one of your freshman year."
Yeah.
But he went to Texas, he liked Texas, and they had Quinn Ewers, and they let Quinn Ewers have that extra year.
Was that the right decision?
Who knows.
But Quinn Ewers held him off for a while.
Did you write that down?
I'm, I still have Arch number one overall.
Yeah.
I, man, I'm gonna let that breathe a little bit.
That is- Yeah.
We're, Scotty, we're, yeah, we're rolling on that
