A New Trade Target Has Emerged For The Cubs
Chicago could eye a new trade target to anchor their rotation. This controllable right-hander could be the missing piece for a postseason push and long-term mound stability.

What is up, Cubs fans?
And welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi, talking about all things Cubs.
And the Cubs are in the hunt for some pitching ahead of Monday's trade deadline, and the Cubs are gonna be doing all they can to acquire that at least one starting pitcher.
Starting pitcher is a big need for the Cubs right now, and they're also interested in some bullpen arms, and the Cubs are looking to get at least three pitchers in total at this year's trade deadline according to Ken Rosenthal and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.
And one of those pitchers is going to be a starting pitcher.
Obviously, the Cubs are doing their due diligence on several pitchers, including Tarik Skubal, Freddy Peralta, Reid Detmers.
They've also kept tabs on Casey Mize, Emerson Hancock, Robbie Ray, Clay Holmes.
Like, any pitcher that's available at this year's trade deadline, the Cubs are in on them some way, somehow.
Well, there's another pitcher that could be available at this year's trade deadline, and it is George Kirby of the Seattle Mariners.
Kirby could be the best controllable starting pitcher available at this year's trade deadline, and it's no secret that the Cubs want more controllable starting pitching, especially since next year, Shorty Imenaga, Matthew Border, both free agents at the end of this season, and Kate Horne will likely be out through the All-Star break.
So they need some pitching for the rest of this year and into next year, and Kirby would be kind of that solution for both years as Kirby will not be a free agent until after the 2028 season.
And Kirby is, has been one of the most consistent starters in the game since he entered the league.
Although this year hasn't been as consistent for him on the mound, he is still a great starting pitcher and would instantly boost this Cubs rotation for the stretch run.
He would be the top target for the Cubs and should be at the top of the Cubs wish list as we head into the trade deadline here on Monday.
