Trey McBride on Cardinals' new HC and staff: Everyone's 'dialed in' 'The Insiders'
Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride joins "The Insiders" to share how the team is reacting to the new coaching staff and some of the expectations that he and the team have for next season.

When you tune in to watch the Arizona Cardinals this year, one of their big time stars is gonna be front and center allro Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride, who is, by the way, I should mention our guest on the insiders joining me, Ian Rapaport, Judy Battista as well.
So Trey, a lot of topics we wanna get to team related, personally.
But I want to start with weeks 6 and 10 on your schedule because today, the Los Angeles Rams made an absolute blockbuster of a trade, acquiring Miles Garrett for Jarrett verse a 1 and several other picks.
Uh, what did you think when you saw the trade made by the Rams who you have to play twice each season?
You know, I was, I was really shocked.
I was really trying to figure out how they're gonna get this done, uh, how they were gonna, the cap, the salary, all the above.
But honestly, um, guy's a tremendous player.
You know, Jarrett Vurs is also a tremendous player.
So it's kind of like one out, one in, and, um, you know, uh, Miles Garrett's been doing it at a high level for a long time.
So, you know, I'm excited to go against one of the best in the league, um, you know, twice a, twice a year every year.
How does having to face him maybe change how you will have to prepare for the Rams?
Yeah, I mean, with such an elite edge rusher like that, he's a guy that you have to, you have to slow down, you have to chip him, you have to know exactly where he is at all times, and, um, you know, he's gonna be a main focus for us when we play those, you know, the Rams that week, and, um, you know, hopefully we can slow him down and, you know, be able to, to slow him down as much as we can so we can get the ball out, uh, fast because he's a, he's a problem when he gets going.
You know, you had one of your best seasons ever.
I would say maybe your best season last year, breaking the tight end record all pro season right after, by the way, a huge contract extension.
You go into this offseason and I don't wanna say there's a little uncertainty, but, you know, some things unsettled.
Jacoby Brissett has not been present as he tries to get a new contract.
You have a new coaching staff.
What has it been like this offseason with the Arizona Cardinals?
Kind of take us inside the building a little bit.
Yeah, I mean, everyone is very excited for the new coaching staff.
You know, Mike LaFleurs came in and he's gotten everyone dialed in with the new offense.
So it's been a huge learning curve for everybody, just trying to get the offense down, trying to learn, uh, trying to figure out what we're going to do.
But, you know, I'm excited, uh, with the new staff that's here.
I'm excited for everyone that's on this team, and, uh, I'm just excited to get going and, and see what we can do this year.
You're obviously going to have a new quarterback, uh, a new starting quarterback.
Jacoby Brissett is, is not there right now, but what has it been like with the quarterbacks you have there and then your expectations for Brissett as the starter?
Yeah, you know, I, I would love to have Jacoby here.
You know, he's, uh, was the guy who, you know, got me all those yards and catches, whatever, last year, so I would love to have him here, but, um, you know, he's dealing with something right now.
Gardner's been here just as much, um, so I've been working with him, getting reps with him.
And for all of us, we're all learning the offense, we're all trying to figure this thing out together and it's been a, a learning curve for everybody.
So, um, uh, we , we've been rolling as, as much as we can and it's been a lot of fun, um, but we would love to get Jacoby back as soon as possible.
All right, so no Jacoby there in the building right now, but one of the guys you do have in the building, Jeremiah Love, the 3rd overall pick, running back from Notre Dame, one of the best overall players in this draft, joined your offense.
I would imagine it was pretty splashy.
I would imagine, uh, he is going to be used a lot.
What are you, do you think of the sort of early returns of Jeremiah Love?
What's it been like?
I mean, you see right away why he is such a, you know, high pick, why, you know, who he is.
His, his ability to get in and out of cuts, his ability to, to run is, is one of the best I've ever seen.
He's a, a stud of a person, a stud player, and, um, I'm really excited to get.
pads on and see him really go a little bit.
You know, right now, it's hard to tell, you know, how he's gonna be just because you're not in full pads, things like that, but everything I'm seeing out there is, uh, is awesome, and I, I'm just excited to see, you know, how he can add to our offense and, and kind of take us to the next level.
Well, sort of like that, uh, you mentioned you, you guys are really excited for the new coaching staff, but take us sort of behind the curtain.
What's Mike LaFleur been like behind the scenes?
He's awesome.
He's one of those guys who he's FaceTiming you all the time, wanting to chat outside of football, but his ability to, to connect with all the players, not just, uh, not just the offensive guys, but he's, he's talking to all the guys on the team .
He's a, a players' coach.
He's a guy who.
You know, always wants to talk about something, asking you how you are as a person, not just as a football player, and um he's been very vocal , he's been very transparent, and um, you know exactly what he wants from you, so, I've loved every uh aspect we've had together and um I'm excited to grow and, and keep learning together.
Man, for those of us old people, it has been a challenge to deal with the people who sort of adjust to the people who FaceTime you first instead of calling you.
You always gotta make sure, always gotta make sure you're ready and what kind of, what kind of call you're getting, all right, so that was the answer, make sure I look good, whatever it is.
So no, he's, he's wonderful though.
I mean, this is why those of us remain clean shaven all the time with our hair done in case we have to do TV or answer a FaceTime call.
Um, you have a big weekend coming up with your camp.
Tell us what it's going to be like and tell us your plans.
Yeah, I have 2 kids camps out here in Arizona.
I'm doing one, here in the Scottsdale area, and then I'm doing 1 down in Tucson.
Just really trying to spread the, you know, the game, trying to teach kids as much as I can and, and wanna do it here in the community in Arizona where I spend so much time.
So this is important to me to give back to the kids, try to, you know, spread a little knowledge on them, and, and most importantly, just show up for the kids, because, uh, just being there, being present is a huge deal for them.
No doubt gonna be a huge deal for everyone involved.
