The New York Islanders Have What It Takes To Pull Off A Playoff Upset
The New York Islanders are still battling to try to get into the playoffs. If they get there, don't expect them to be first-round fodder, writes Adam Proteau.

The Islanders right now are third in the Metro.
They've got a three-point lead over the Blue Jackets in that role.
So, Mike, do you see Schenn being the addition that they needed?
Do you think he is going to be that needle-moving piece for them?
Will he be impactful down the stretch and potentially in the playoffs, or did the Islanders need to do a little bit more?
I mean, he definitely helps their depth up the middle.
I mean, you get to move J.G.
Pageau down, down in the lineup, and now you're, you're strong with, with Horvat.
You know, if you're-- depending on what y- what they do, if they're playing Barzal on the wing or Horvat on the wing, it just gives them more forward depth.
And we know that Schenn is a, a very good two-way forward who, you know, slipped a little bit offensively with the Blues, but frank- frankly, the Blues are a, are a terrible team this year.
I mean, he-- I know that Schenn was quoted as basically saying, "I was asked to waive my no-trade last year, and now I've been asked to waive it again.
At a certain point, it's like, okay, I'm getting the message.
They're not interested in me anymore, and they're m- interested in retooling, so I may as well go someplace where I'm useful."
And I do think he'll be useful for the Islanders.
They'll make the playoffs, and they'll be a matchup that'll be tough because they have good goaltending.
I just don't know how f- how deep they can go, but I think their chances are better now with Brayden Schenn than without him.
