OK, first day, a lot of excitement.
Ready to get on the field, see what these guys are, are, uh, ready to show us.
And so, again, a lot of prep work went in over the course of the spring.
Guys doing a good job taking care of themselves for the summer.
Now it's time to get to work.
Go ahead, uh, from yesterday, Zach, everybody here.
Everybody here.
What's your number one message on day one?
You gonna try to throttle them back or?
Well, I think with only the helmets on, you know, there is this four-day period here that you're trying to get good work in, trying to protect your teammates.
Guys are eager to get out there and play football, uh, but at the same time, we got to do a good job protecting ourselves, protecting our teammates these first couple of days, and then we'll put the pads on next week and really get after it.
Next week, yeah, after a day off.
You have 4 in a row here.
Is there gonna be periodic days off that you plan for people to ease guys in the ramp up?
Is that kind of how you have to structure that?
Yes, I think D line is going to be the one that stands out.
I won't get into what the days are and who it is, but I, I think you'll see some D-linemen that follow that process.
Zach, just how exciting is it just to be back with the guys, another football season underway, the whole team, especially with offseason moves.
What's the excitement level right now?
It's exciting.
I think I, I certainly get that way over the course of summer.
You enjoy the break.
You enjoy the time with the family.
You know, you got a chance to take some time for yourself.
It's necessary.
It's gonna be a long season, but certainly as, as, you know, 3 weeks left, 2 weeks left.
Every day that passes, uh, you're ready to get in the building, and get to work and, um, get back around the guys, you know, and so, so far the energy has been good the last 24 hours.
How much of this time of camp is reminding, refreshing, uh, the players over what they did during OT?
There's a period of that, you know, that's, that's part of the installation meeting, that's part of on the field.
We also challenge them coming out of the offseason.
Let's not spend a lot of time having to focus on that.
Reminders on.
Some things that we had to, to correct maybe in the offseason or some things we installed in the offseason.
So, that's on the players as well to be reviewing that stuff over the last 5 weeks to make sure that they put their best foot forward on day one.
But there will be that point when we're installing things and we're refreshing some of the, the coaching points that we made over time.
Burrow does a lot of things well.
One of them, like, how impressive is his adaptability to kind of do whatever fit whatever the team needs for him?
I think that's his attitude is, what do you need from me for us to be at our best, and, um.
Also understanding what his strengths are and what, what he believes will put himself in the best position, but also, there's never been pushback on, hey, we're going to look at this scheme, we're going to try to do a couple of these things with you.
Always been very receptive to it.
Always wants to take a look at it, and then we'll, we'll accumulate some reps and then decide if that's really something we move forward with.
But I think to, to have that lack of ego at quarterback is, is huge for our team and for our offense.
How often does he come to?
Uh, not, not too much, more tweaks.
I think that's the biggest thing is, you know, when you say ideas and things, it's more just the part of the process that he's really good at is instead of having this backside route be this, let's do this.
I can finish my progression a little better if he's over here, maybe after repping a play, he's got some real thoughts on that.
So that comes up more game week, like real game week, not training camp.
Um, but there's certainly times where he'll text me during the week, you know, hey, I've been watching tape.
Here's two ideas I got.
Does it fit with what we're doing?
