This Long-Running Disney Tradition is So Exclusive Guests Can’t Participate
- Goofy’s Mystery Tour is an exclusive after-hours event at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park where over 300 teams of four Cast Members participate in challenges like a scavenger hunt and Disney trivia.
If racing through a closed Walt Disney World park on a late-night scavenger hunt sounds like a dream, think again — because it’s not fantasy. Goofy’s Mystery Tourhas been a time-honored tradition for over 30 years. But there’s one catch: this event is exclusive to Disney’s Cast Members (Mickey speak for its employees). And rightfully so, they are the ones who make vacations to the “most magical place on earth” truly memorable.
Combining trivia and teamwork, this multi-hour event began in 1991 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios(then Disney-MGM Studios). Today, it takes place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, set to the stunning backdrop of lush foliage and winding walkways. Over 300 teams of four come together to participate in a series of challenges that include a scavenger hunt, Disney trivia and brain teaser-style puzzles. And it remains a favorite event each year.
“What began as a playful challenge has evolved into a signature after-hour cast member tradition that celebrates the people who bring Disney magic to life every day,” Disney Park Blogs shared, “The event continues to honor the heart of our cast culture: shared storytelling, teamwork, friendly competition and that spark of nostalgia that reminds us of the magical moments we create for guests every day at Disney.”

Each year, Goofy’s Mystery Tour has a unique theme, with past iterations including Goofy’s Cyber Mystery Tour. In 2026, it was inspired by the classic attraction Walt Disney ’s Enchanted Tiki Room, with Cast Members dubbing it “Goofy’s Mystiki Tour.” This infused a bit of “tropical whimsy” and rich history into the event; Cast Members arrived dressed for the occasion in Hawaiian-print wardrobe complete with leis.
Teams are made up of members from all different departments — from Imagineering to communications and attractions. And they take this very seriously, with many preparing in advance by hosting practice trivia sessions covering a variety of topics, including international parks and movies .

And what makes this really special, each team’s fourth member can be a non-Cast Member friend or family member. Cast Member Claire Embilmade it a family affair by inviting her Mom—or as she calls her the “Maker of Magic”—to join in on the fun. “It’s because of my mom’s love, hard work, and passion in making magic for me that I get to have a career making magic for others,” Embil shared.
Disney is known for celebrating its Cast Members through exclusive experiences and honors, including the C.R.O.W. (Canoe Races of the World) and the Walt Disney Legacy Award program. Walt Disney World is the largest single-site employer in the United States with over 80,000 cast members and a retention rate over 80%.
“At the end of the day, Goofy’s Mystiki Tour is more than a competition to me,” shared Embil. “It’s a reminder of why so many of us choose to build our careers here. Disney creates opportunities not just to work, but to learn, grow, try new amazing things and then share moments of wonder with the people who matter most, our families and fellow cast members.”
