March 19, 2026 School Board Meeting Highlights
Administration of the Oath of Office
At 6:22 p.m., the Administration of the Oath of Office Ceremony was called to order, followed by the Presentation of the Colors by the Lake Braddock Secondary School Army JROTC and a performance of the National Anthem by the Lake Braddock Middle School Chamber Orchestra.
Judge Stephen C. Shannon, of the Fairfax County Circuit Court, administered the oath of office to Thomas F. Dannan II, Braddock Magisterial Representative.

Public Hearing
At 6:46 p.m., Dr. Anderson called the School Board Public Hearing was called to order. This public hearing was on the staff proposal to add an Advanced Academic Center at North Springfield Elementary School. No speakers testified to t he School Board during this hearing .
Meeting Opening
At 7:00 p.m., the School Board Regular Meeting was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence, a performance of the National Anthem by Lake Braddock Middle School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Diana Chou.
Chair Anderson welcomed the School Board's student representatives in this year’s Student Leadership Development Program who attended the meeting.
The School Board approved Women's History Month , School Social Work Appreciation Week , Recognizing Social and Emotional Learning , and Recognizing the 2025 Bond Citizens Committee & Affirming the Importance of a Triple-A Bond Rating proclamations.
Community Participation
The School Board heard from 9 members of the public during Community Participation .
Student Representative Matters
Student Representative Faith Mekonen presented Student Representative Matters to the School Board.
Action Items
The School Board approved additional School Board Member Committee and Liaison Assignments .
The School Board awarded a Sole Source Contract to the Washington Lacrosse Umpires Association for Girls Lacrosse Officials Services .
Executive Limitation Performance and Policy Review
The School Board's Executive Limitations (EL) are the operational guardrails for how the Superintendent shall operate the Division to achieve its goals. ELs are reviewed annually through monitoring reports, submitted by the Superintendent, to ensure compliance with these limitations.
Division Superintendent Dr. Michelle C. Reid presented a monitoring report on Executive Limitation-13: Safety and Security (EL-13). The School Board found the Superintendent in compliance with EL-13 and approved the SY2025-26 EL-13 monitoring report . Later in the meeting, through approval of the Consent Agenda, the School Board voted to maintain Executive Limitation 13, Safety and Security, as it is currently detailed in the Strategic Governance Manual.
Presentations to the School Board
Dr. Reid, Chief Financial Officer Leigh Burden, and Budget Services Executive Director Alice Wigington presented the FY 2026 Third Quarter Budget Review .
Dr. Reid; Aaron Stratton, Senior Manager II, Fine Arts K-12; and Tara Taylor, Educational Specialist, Theatre Arts presented a Strategic Plan Update on Goal 2 - Safe, Supported, Included, and Empowered regarding Middle School Theatre Arts in FCPS .
Dr. Reid presented Academic Matters on Walk to Read .
Consent Agenda
The School Board adopted the minutes of the February 12, 2026 regular meeting and awarded several contracts.

The School Board noticed the following items as New Business - there was not a vote at the meeting on these items, but action is scheduled for a future meeting.

- Appointment of Community Members to the Comprehensive Planning and Development Committee

- Virginia School Board Association (VSBA) 2026 Business Honor Roll Nominations

Mr. McElveen gave a report on the Audit Committee.
Mr. Frisch gave a report on the Administration Committee.
Ms. Meren gave a report on the Governance Committee.

Division Superintendent Dr. Michelle C. Reid presented Superintendent Matters to the School Board .
Meeting Closing
Dr. Anderson, Mr. Moon, Mr. Dannan, Ms. Dixit, Ms. St. John-Cunning, Mr. McElveen, Mr. Frisch, Ms. Lady, and Ms. Anderson provided remarks during Board Matters.
The Regular Meeting adjourned at 11:16 p.m.
