Educational Materials
FCPS is committed to providing an excellent education that meets the needs of all students.
The United States Access Board requires that all web content is compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Therefore, FCPS works to ensure all website content is accessible to everyone, including web applications, web pages, and associated documents and files. This applies to both the internet and intranet.
In addition, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Virginia Information Technology Access Act (Code of Virginia § 2.2-3500 et seq.) require that all digital content, including instructional materials and social media, must be accessible to individuals with disabilities.
FCPS is committed to meeting the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 Level A/AA) as the technical standard for compliance. While federal enforcement timelines have been extended, FCPS continues to prioritize these accessibility standards in alignment with Virginia state law and our commitment to providing equal access to all.
Web accessibility ensures that everyone can use and benefit from the web regardless of ability, condition, or circumstance. It eliminates barriers that can prevent someone from engaging with content. Accessibility strives for inclusive design that allows people with disabilities to acquire, engage with, and enjoy information in an equally effective manner to people without disabilities. For people with disabilities and users of other languages, web accessibility is essential. Our site presents information in a way that allows users to engage with content using accessible and assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnification tools, translation tools, and any other hardware or software they might need.
FCPS is committed to maintaining a digital environment that complies with both federal and state regulations:
Our goal is to provide a seamless experience for all members of our community across all digital platforms, including websites, applications, and instructional materials.
If you have questions about web accessibility in FCPS, or if you encounter content that is not accessible, please contact us .
Please note that some FCPS webpages contain links to third-party sites and applications which are not within FCPS’s control and may not comply with accessibility standards. The district is not responsible for the content or accessibility of third-party sites and applications.
The Fairfax County Public Schools website is being translated primarily through machine translation using Google Translate.
As with any machine translation, the conversion is not context-sensitive and may not fully convert text into its intended meaning. FCPS cannot guarantee the accuracy of the converted text nor are we liable for any resulting issues.
A text-to-speech feature, available on the FCPS website and each school website, reads the words aloud from webpages. The feature helps people who need accessibility, such as users with visual impairments, dyslexia, literacy issues, and those challenged with reading large amounts of online text.
The text-to-speech feature is available in English, Spanish, and Korean. FCPS’ two largest non-native English speaking populations will be able to hear content in their home languages.
For those who need convenience, the text-to-speech feature is available when viewing FCPS’ website via mobile devices. To use the feature, select either English, Korean, or Spanish from Google Translate menu, and an audio player bar will appear below the page title. Click the play button to listen to the text.
