Preparing for Winter Weather This Weekend
Hello FCPS Families,
According to the forecast, winter weather is on its way! In anticipation of what could be a significant weather event, we ask that you remind your student to bring home their laptops and chargers, iPads, and any books or notebooks tomorrow. We don’t know what the forecast will be, but it’s always best to be prepared!
I have also asked schools to remind students to do the same, and to send home any projects or reading materials that students can work on independently in case weather impacts school next week.
To be clear, we are not planning for remote learning, but we do want students to have access to web based resources and activities.
There are also many additional ways that families can support learning in the event of weather-related school closures or delays. I invite you to read the FCPS Snow Day activities webpage , which has age-appropriate activities that you can do with your child while they are away from school. Remember, learning happens all around us every day and snow days are meant to be fun!
Finally, be sure to visit our Weather Cancellations Procedures webpage for additional ways to get updates regarding school closures and delays. If we need to make any changes to the school day because of weather, we will share that information with you via email, text message, the FCPS Social Media pages, our FCPS App, and through local media outlets.
Please know that I’ll be working with the FCPS weather team throughout the weekend to provide you and our FCPS staff the best possible guidance on delays and closures. Please take proper precautions and take care of yourself and your family.
Warmest regards,

Dr. Michelle Reid
Superintendent
Fairfax County Public Schools
