Musical Theatre Fundamentals
Grades:9, 10 ,11, 12 | Credit:1 | Prerequisite: Audition
Students will identify and practice performance techniques specific to musical theatre through multidisciplinary lenses; including, but not limited to: musical theatre history, singing, acting, and movement. Through observing and participating in various activities, students will examine classical and contemporary musical theatre works, characters, and styles with an overall emphasis on performance. Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.
Musical Theatre Workshop
Grades:10 ,11, 12 | Credit:1 | Prerequisite: Audition
Students will explore performance techniques specific to musical theatre including acting, singing, and movement. Students will examine classic and contemporary musical theatre styles, structure, and content with an overall emphasis on performance. Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.
Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop
Grades:11, 12 | Credits:2 | Prerequisite: Audition
Students will enhance performance techniques specific to musical theatre including acting, singing, and dancing. Students will examine and appraise classic and contemporary musical theatre styles, structure, and content with an overall emphasis on performance. Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.
Pre-Professional Musical Theatre
Grades:12 | Credits:2 | Prerequisite: Audition and Musical Theatre Workshop, Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop, or teacher recommendation.
Students will expand and synthesize knowledge and skills in musical theatre performance and content. Outside class assignments including directing, auditioning for community, regional, and professional theatres, reviewing local performances, and interviewing local theatre professionals will be required. Collegiate and professional audition portfolios will be developed. Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.
