Interested in attending Fairfax Academy?
Academy registration is done through FCPS base school counselors during course selection time (January). February auditions for certain programs below are required, so register early!
If a student is not currently enrolled at a traditional FCPS high school, please contact Academy Administrative Assistant, Sarah Tarvid at 703-219-2226 .
PROGRAM AUDITIONS: February 21, 2026
Auditions only open to students registered through the Academy Registration Portal by their counselor. Once registered, students are emailed details, directions, and direct links to submit their materials.
*NOTE: Any applications/registrations received after February 21, 2026 are considered late. Students will be considered on a space-available basis at that time and are still required to submit all materials.
Academy decisions are sent to students late spring. For questions regarding your Academy registration, please see your school counselor.
Step by Step Registration Process
Please follow these steps, in order, to register for school year 2026 - 2027:
- SCHOOL COUNSELOR:Students speak with their counselor about Academy courses and selection for the next school year.
- PLAN A VISIT: It is highly recommended that current FCPS high school students arrange with their counselor to sit in on a class in February.
- OPEN HOUSE:It is recommended that families attend the Open House here at Fairfax High School on February 3, 2026 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
- REGISTER:Counselors register students via the Academy Registration Portal . Only counselors can register students for Academy classes. Make sure to connect with your counselor early in order to complete the audition requirements by the deadline of February 21, 2026. Email Academy Counselor Mr. Donald with any questions or if you are unable to meet with your school counselor.
- AUDITIONING: Once registered , students will receive a registration confirmation email with audition instructions if applicable. All audition materials are due by February 21, 2026.
- DEADLINES:On-time registration deadline via the Academy Registration Portal is March 6, 2026. In-person dance audition at Fairfax High School and the deadline for all audition materials submission is February 21, 2026.
Dance Audition Requirements
2026 - 2027 auditions open only to students registered in the Academy Registration Portal by their counselor. Once registered, students are sent a survey to be submitted by February 21, 2026.
Returning students are not required to audition.
- Dance 1 & Hip Hop:No audition is required for beginning students. Once registered, students are required to complete the survey sent to them by February 21, 2026. Intermediate/experienced dancers are invited to audition in person for proper class placement.
- Dance 2, 3, 4 & Broadway Dance: All experienced dancers are required to sign up to audition in person.
Auditions held Saturday, February 21, 2026 in Dance Studio G115 at Fairfax High School:
- Dance 2 & Broadway Dance Audition 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
- Dance 3 & 4 Audition 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Fashion Careers Submission Requirements
2026 - 2027 submissions open only to students registered in the Academy Registration Portal by their counselor. Once registered, students are sent information on submitting the following by February 21, 2026. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted or considered.
- Interest Form with introduction video and work samples/portfolio

Music and Computer Technology (MCT) Audition Requirements
2026 - 2027 auditions open only to students registered in the Academy Registration Portal by their counselor. Once registered, students are sent information on submitting the following by February 21, 2026.
- Google Form with:
- Interview video
- Primary instrument performance
- Keyboard demonstration

Musical Theatre and Actor's Studio (MTAS) Audition Requirements
2026- 2027 auditions open only to students registered in the Academy Registration Portal by their counselor. Once registered, students are sent information on submitting audition materials by February 21, 2026.
Virtual audition consisting of a vocal selection and dance combo are required for all MTAS courses. All students must audition each year.
