FCPS Laptops & Chargers Expectations
All students will be issued an FCPS laptop (Chromebook), charger, and case for the duration of the school year.
- FCPS laptops should be used only in conjunction with projects relating to the educational programs of FCPS. It may not be used as a personal or social device for the student.
- Students are responsible for taking care of the device for the year.
- The Student Device is for the assigned student's use only.
- The device should be fully charged when brought to school for use during the day. Chormebooks hold their charge for the entirety of the day, so there is no reason to bring the charger to school unless there will be extensive use.
- All files should be saved in Google Drive, not on the computer hard drive.
- Tech support is provided at your school, for your laptop, during school hours only. DO NOT TAKE THE LAPTOP TO A RETAIL STORE FOR REPAIR. The device is covered by a FCPS warranty.
- School staff should be informed of a lost/stolen device as soon as possible.

Acceptable Use Policy and Student Rights and Responsibilities
Students are expected to follow the AUP and SR&R regarding technology use.
- “The use of the FCPS network is necessary to provide all students with access, support, and o pportunities to use provided tools and resources; and for students to interact with other students, teachers, and class content to support and enrich their learning experience.” (AUP)
- “Students are expected to use the technology ethically, respect the privacy and work of others, leave the workstation in good condition for the next user, and generally follow established rules for safety and security.” (SRR)
- “Schools will respond to instances of inappropriate use by following normal disciplinary procedures, just as they would if the incident occurred in the physical classroom” (AUP)
- “Students have a responsibility to refrain from using visual imagery or statements that are profane, obscene, slanderous, libelous, or violent” (SRR)
- “ Students are prohibited from accessing any portion of the internet that is inconsistent with the educational mission of FCPS.” (AUP)
Any students who violate the AUP or the SR&R will go through a process to address the behavior

Parent and Family Support
FCPS provides numerous tools to help support parents and families in making sure their students are successful in the digital learning environment.
Lightspeed-Families can monitor usage and sites visited. They must request access. They are also able to turn off internet access remotely during non-school hours. Information on how to request and use the feature.
Talking Points-Talking Points is a service that allows families to directly communicate with teachers via their phones, either through text or an app. It automatically translates texts. For more information, please refer to this site.
ParentVUE-ParentVUE allows you to access and monitor a variety of information about your students. The most notable is the ability to check grades and assignments connected directly to the teacher's gradebook. More information can be found here.
Parent Schoology Accounts - Parent Schoology Accounts allow you to see the setup and assignments of your student's courses. This includes seeing due dates along with any class resources posted. Account information to log in is the same as your ParentVUE accounts. Google assignments will be viewable in the title only. More information can be found here.

- Account Manager: Use this site to set up a password recovery phone number or email address.
- Account Password Recovery: This self-service application allows FCPS students to reset their lost or forgotten passwords. To successfully use this application, you must have previously supplied a private e-mail address or mobile phone number in the Account Manager application. If you are having problems using this application, please see one of your teachers during the school day.
- Google Apps for Education : Google Apps for Education (GAE) allows FCPS students, faculty, and staff to communicate, store files, and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in real time from school, work, or home, all within a secure “closed campus” online environment. The use of these tools is optional and intended to provide an approved and supportable alternative to consumer Google accounts. There is no cost to use GAE.
- Schoology: The Learning Management System (LMS) FCPS uses division-wide. It is a learning space that supports instructional practices aligned to FCPS’s learning model and helps students reach the Portrait of a Graduate goals .
- StudentVUE Accounts: All middle school students have access to their StudentVUE accounts by using their network ID and password to log in.
- Digital Citizenship : We work to develop responsible and productive digital citizens.
