Mr. Darling’s 7th grade Science classes recently set out on an exciting journey as Carbon Atoms. Through the Carbon Cycle Passport activity, students explored how carbon moves between different parts of the ecosystem in both predictable and surprising ways.

Armed with dice and their “passports,” Liberty scientists rotated through six interactive stations:

  • Animals
  • Atmosphere
  • Fossil Fuels
  • Ocean
  • Plants
  • Soil

Each dice roll determined where their Carbon Atom traveled next. Some found themselves stuck in a Carbon sink, while others moved freely from place to place. The game illustrated one key takeaway: carbon’s journey is random!

This hands-on activity brought science to life and helped students better understand the vital role carbon plays in ecosystems and why its movement matters for life on Earth.
