This year, our AVID classes, led by Mr. Schwarz and Mr. Queirolo, are once again partnering with Think Big for Kids to give students opportunities to explore careers, build professional skills, and connect classroom learning to the real world. The partnership supports the mission of AVID: to prepare students for success in college, careers, and life by teaching them to set goals, take responsibility, and develop the skills needed to thrive in the future.

Last year, AVID students participated in a series of workshops and industry presentations through Think Big for Kids. These events focused on essential workplace skills such as networking, professionalism, accountability, communication, and teamwork. Students also had the chance to hear directly from professionals across diverse industries:

BloomCatch – Agricultural AI Start-up

Gorove Slade – Transportation Engineering

The Sonance Initiative with Dr. Alex Harris – A unique workshop using music and storytelling to guide students in leadership, goal setting, and personal growth

Each workshop gave students valuable insights into how skills practiced in AVID—like organization, collaboration, and critical thinking—translate into success in the workplace. Some companies highlighted specific career paths, such as ultrasound technicians and respiratory therapists with Inova, while others provided a broader look into entire industries.

As we begin a new year of partnership with Think Big for Kids, our AVID students are building on these experiences to continue developing their leadership, confidence, and career readiness. The connection between AVID’s academic focus and real-world learning opportunities helps students envision their future and take steps toward achieving it.
