Battle of the Books: A Stormy Search for Clues!

Our Battle of the Books teams took on an exciting literacy challenge this week—one inspired by the science-fiction adventure The Last Dragon on Mars. Students worked in small groups to navigate the library, searching for hidden clues tucked inside books across different sections. Each clue led them to a new location, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and a whole lot of creative thinking.

To make the experience even more immersive, every group was required to stay connected by holding onto a single piece of string. This fun twist represented the harsh weather conditions faced by the characters in The Last Dragon on Mars. Letting go of the string meant the entire group had to freeze for 15 seconds.

Despite the challenge, students collaborated beautifully, communicated clearly, and cheered one another on as they worked their way through the clue trail. The activity blended literacy with movement, imagination, and teamwork—an unforgettable warm-up to this year’s Battle of the Books competition.
