This week, Ms. Dombro’s engineering students put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test with the classic Egg Drop Challenge.

Students worked in teams with a limited set of supplies to design a capsule that could keep a fragile egg safe during a drop from the school staircase. Some designs focused on slowing the fall, others on cushioning the landing, and a few used creative ways to redirect the impact.

To make the project even more meaningful, students connected their designs to real-world aerospace engineering. Just like scientists and engineers must find ways to bring astronauts safely back to Earth or deliver medicine and food to remote areas, our students experimented with innovative solutions to a very real challenge.

Finally, the moment of truth arrived: the big drop. Cheers and groans filled the stairwell as students watched to see which eggs survived the fall. Some capsules held strong while others cracked under the impact, but every team gained valuable insights about design, testing, and problem-solving.

This hands-on challenge gave students the chance to think like engineers, testing ideas, taking risks, and learning from both success and failure.
