Library Learning Experiences

Library instruction at Liberty Middle School supports students across all grade levels and subject areas. While I collaborate with teachers throughout the school, much of my work focuses on multilingual learners, English classes, reading support classes, and social studies classes.

Our library lessons help students grow as readers, thinkers, and researchers while strengthening important Portrait of a Graduate skills. Depending on the class, instruction may include:

  • Book checkout and book talksthat encourage students to be effective communicators as they discuss reading choices and share recommendations
  • Research and information literacy lessons, where students practice being critical and creative thinkers as they locate, evaluate, and use information responsibly
  • Book passes, where students explore a topic or genre by previewing a variety of books and make thoughtful choices about what they would like to read

At Liberty, teachers sign up for library visits based on their instructional needs. I regularly share scheduling opportunities with English teachers for lessons and checkout visits, and I also collaborate with reading support, multilingual learners, and social studies teachers throughout the year. This flexible model allows classes to visit the library when it best supports their curriculum and gives students consistent access to both instruction and new books.

Through these activities, students strengthen their reading and research skills and grow as thoughtful, capable learners who are ready to take on new challenges.
