A Japanese research team working off the Ogasawara Islands has succeeded in filming a giant squid(イカ)live-possibly for the first time. The team says the elusive(捕らえどころのない)creatures may be more plentiful than previously believed. Giant squid are the world's largest invertebrates(無脊椎動物)and have long been shrouded(覆い隠す)in mystery; they appear in ancient Greek myths(神話)and attack the submarine in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea(海底二万哩).
