先日英字新聞で、京都議定書関連で、
温室効果ガスの記事を読んでいて、
emission creditという言葉が出てきて、「排出権」と調べました。
目標達成のために、企業の努力は必須。
今回はその話でした。

=to prevent something from happening, especially something bad

impending crisis [ 眼前の危機
impending [ 差し迫った、今にも起こりそうな
=an impending event or situation, especially an unpleasant one, is going to happen very soon
the same techonology that gave rise to our woes [ 私たちの苦難を生んだその同じ技術
woe [ 苦難、苦渋
= [plural] formal the problems and troubles affecting someone:
fight fire with fire [ （ことわざ）毒を持って、毒を制する。相手と同じ手段で対決する
alleviate [ 軽減する 和らげる
=to make something less painful or difficult to deal with
the role they have played in dirtying the planet
地球の汚染に自らが演じてきてしまった役割
Governments are devising systems of carbon trading
各国政府は排出量取引の制度を考案しています。
Putting a price on carbon dioxide emissions
二酸化炭素の排出量に値をつける
stem the ill effects [ 悪影響を食い止める
stem [【流れなどを）止める、食い止める、抑止する
=to stop something from happening, spreading, or developing
spur [ ～に拍車をかける
=to encourage someone or make them want to do something
prod [ 突付く、駆り立てる
=to make someone do something by persuading or reminding them that it is necessary, especially when they are lazy or unwilling
show firm commitment [ 確固たる姿勢を取る
commitment [ 姿勢、約束
=a promise to do something or to behave in a particular way
impair [ 損なう、悪くする
=to damage something or make it not as good as it should be:

It will take 「（時間を）必要とする。（労力などを）要する・必要とする」
She seems to be aware of what it takes to be a good writer.
彼女はよい作家になるために何が必要かということに気づいているようです
It takes great nerve to go through with such shady schemes.
そんな秘密の計画をやりとおすには、大変が度胸が必要です

=courage and confidence in a dangerous, difficult, or frightening situation
the nerve to do something
＊nerveにこんな意味があるとは知りませんでした。
彼はよい教師に必要なものを持っています。
He has what it takes to be a good teacher.
set an example for(to) 「見本を見せる、手本を示す」
a shining example a good example など形容詞を伴った場合
先進国が省エネの範を示す必要があります。
Advanced countries need to set examples in conserving energy.
＊今回も難しかった。特に最後の方は文が長すぎ、オーバーラッピングも息継ぎできず、
苦しすぎ・・・ついていけず。。。
